Yikes.
What's yikes?
I think she did pretty good.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 7, 2025 3:18 AM |
Take a look at her now!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 7, 2025 3:19 AM |
Her singing and dancing are good but she doesn't have the looks
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 7, 2025 3:23 AM |
She is kind of ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 7, 2025 3:40 AM |
R4. Oh, go take a leap in front of a morning train.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 7, 2025 3:50 AM |
R4 Gwen Verdon was no catch either. Roxie's sexiness is inert, it's not about her looks.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 7, 2025 2:07 PM |
Love Toni Collette.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 7, 2025 2:28 PM |
That Muriel!
She sang that better than any ABBA song. And she’s a Dancing Queen.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 7, 2025 2:41 PM |
If you weighed it against the stunt-casting they have done for Roxie, you'd give Toni Collette a Tony for this performance.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 7, 2025 2:50 PM |
[quote]Roxie's sexiness is inert
Huh?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 7, 2025 2:50 PM |
Innate
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 7, 2025 2:52 PM |
There was no "yikes" about it.
Toni Collette is wonderful.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 7, 2025 2:53 PM |
This is amateurish.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 7, 2025 3:00 PM |
Spare us, Addison DeWitt at R13. There's nothing amateurish about her.
An audition? Since when would she have to audition for anything? Is this a very, very old clip?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 7, 2025 3:29 PM |
The sound quality of the clip doesn't do her any favors. I'm sure she sounded better in person. Overall she wasn't cute enough to play Roxie. Her Roxie would've looked too tough, too knowing, like Queenie in 'Wild Party.'
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 7, 2025 3:47 PM |
Looking tough for Chicago makes sense, R15. And she certainly is attractive enough.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 7, 2025 3:52 PM |
I think she would’ve been great. It’s just an audition.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 7, 2025 5:04 PM |
I saw her in the Wild Party and she was a force of nature, one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. And she was incredibly sexy. She should've not only played Roxie, she should have played Judy Garland. Renee Zelwegger is talentless.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 7, 2025 5:23 PM |
Completely agree, R18.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 7, 2025 5:26 PM |
Not attractive. Toad mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 7, 2025 5:55 PM |
Idiot R20. She's doing pretty well for herself, I'd say. Better than you.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 7, 2025 5:57 PM |
She nailed the accent, as usual.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 7, 2025 6:04 PM |
She’s great.
Charlize Theron was up for this too. With her being such a great dancer I can only assume she lost out because she doesn’t sing well and she wasn’t polishing Harvey’s knob.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 7, 2025 6:11 PM |
She could've been, and I guess still could be, a great Roxie on stage, but I never would've bought Toni Collette playing a film character that's some dippy little tart who lays around all day eatin' bon bons and jazzin'. It'd be like if they cast Uma Thurman or Julia Roberts or Charlize Theron for the part. I'm not a big fan of Renee Zellweger's performance in the film, but she had the right look (cute but mundane) and the right screen presence (mousy but calculating) to play Roxie for the film's story, which I recall wasn't as dark as the stage version's book.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 7, 2025 6:23 PM |
Toni has a perfectly pleasant voice. Excuse me, didn't Melanie Griffith play the part at some point. Give me a fucking break.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 7, 2025 6:25 PM |
This is an audition for the movie, not the stage production, right?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 7, 2025 6:27 PM |
Correct, r26.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 7, 2025 6:32 PM |
Yikes r28 and that Kabuki makeup
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 8, 2025 12:46 AM |
That's stage make-up, r29, yikes away. She was brilliant in the show.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 8, 2025 12:57 AM |
Hereditary is a masterpiece. I think she’s brilliant.
I love Cate Blanchett, but she’s always doing some esoteric project that wants to be very highbrow. Toni is a working actor —The real deal.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 8, 2025 1:13 AM |
Meh.
I want to see Shakira's tape.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 8, 2025 1:22 AM |
I don’t know. I thought Toni sounded fine. The sound quality didn’t sound great, but that’s to be expected from a pre-digital audition tape from the late 1990s or early 2000s (whenever this thing was filmed). The sound quality is more to blame, not Toni’s performance.
If I remember correctly, I think Toni almost nabbed the role of Roxie, but then Harvey (f**k the man and not in a good way) pressured the studio to hire Renee instead. If that’s the case, poor Toni!
I liked Toni in “Hereditary” though. I enjoyed her in “Knives Out” as well. She hasn’t done too badly.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 8, 2025 2:45 AM |
[quote] She should've not only played Roxie, she should have played Judy Garland.
No Aussie girl in her right mind would follow Judy Davis into a role.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 8, 2025 3:45 AM |
That's not the whole clip. They also tapers her doing Funny Honey and Hot Honey Rag.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 8, 2025 4:04 AM |
I’ve always disliked Toni Collette, she always overacts to beat the band, you always know what she’s going to do to ham thins up, and sje’s supremely unfeminine-looking with an bony horse face.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 8, 2025 4:08 AM |
[quote]she always overacts to beat the band
You're of a *certain* age, aren't you, r37?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 8, 2025 4:11 AM |
Well, that’s just stupid, R18. You don’t have to drag Renee Zellwegger. That’s not what this discussion is about.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 8, 2025 4:43 AM |
R31, Hereditary is not a masterpiece. Good gawd.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 8, 2025 4:44 AM |
R37, your critique is completely off-base. She gave lovely, understated performances in Little Miss Sunshine and The Sixth Sense. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 8, 2025 4:57 AM |
[quote] sje’s supremely unfeminine-looking
Oh, is she not feminine-looking enough for your taste, Mary R37?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 8, 2025 5:02 AM |
Will she get an Oscar someday? hope so.
I didn't enjoy Juror #2 however....
(not that anyone saw it)
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 8, 2025 10:13 AM |
R3 She is better looking than Renee Zelwegger.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 8, 2025 10:31 AM |
Much, R44.
