My doctor: "SO much flu ... "
Had my annual physical and while the doc was doing it I asked if he was seeing a lot of flu patients this year.
He stopped and sighed. After a second he said, "SO much flu. I don't get it. We try to give good information and free flu shots and it's like no one is interested any more. And it feeds on itself. The more people get it, the more people get it from them and on and on."
I don't feel sorry for MAGA and RFK loons who get sick, but I really do feel for the doctors and nurses doing their best who still have to treat these yutzes.
Have you known a lot more people with flu this year?

Why is everyone on the OP? He's relating a story from his visit to his doctor and how many flu cases he's seeing. And added he justified disdain for the anti-vaxxers. As I mentioned in another thread, my son had to wait all day and into the evening to get admitted to a room because of all the flu, Covid, and RSV cases they were seeing. It's not, "oh no, the sky is falling," but it is serious if it's straining our health care system.

I currently have the flu. I haven't had it in so many years that I honestly forgot about 'the flu'. It really really fucked me up and I just found out there's a thing after the flu that cause pretty painful muscle spasms (different from muscle ache of the flu). Guess how I found this out?

Western experts have publicly called on China to be more transparent about a viral outbreak overwhelming its hospitals — as data shows the virus is growing in the US.
Beijing has downplayed footage of overcrowded waiting rooms and wards posted on social media, saying respiratory infections are 'less severe' and 'smaller in scale' compared to last year.
That has led some to fear there are similarities with the current situation and the Covid outbreak in 2019, which was initially played down by China.

r18 I agree with your 2nd and 3rd points, but your first is idiotic. Learn to read. I said "It's not the fact that your doctor is seeing a lot of flu." So, do you get it? I agree that this is likely true.
It's the "He stopped and sighed. After a second he said, "SO much flu. I don't get it. We try to give good information and free flu shots and it's like no one is interested any more. And it feeds on itself. The more people get it, the more people get it from them and on and on." that is the ridiculous, fake quotation.

No it's not.
I doubt the OP had a pen and paper to write down exactly what the doctor said but the quote sounds perfectly fine and conversational: ""SO much flu. I don't get it. We try to give good information and free flu shots and it's like no one is interested any more. And it feeds on itself. The more people get it, the more people get it from them and on and on."

Maybe your doctor asks his patience about their vaccine status so he knows they didn't get vaccinated, but many patients may have gotten their flu shot this year but are seeking medical care because 2024/25 wasn't a great match; they may have gotten a different strain of influenza:
"Effectiveness appears to be on a downward trend, CDC data suggest
Data from the southern hemisphere show that this year's flu shot was 34.5% effective against hospitalization in high-risk groups during that half of the globe's winter respiratory season.
Kawsar Talaat, MD, of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, told USA Today that the 34.5% effectiveness from the southern hemisphere is "a little bit disappointing," adding that physicians would like it to be closer to 50%.
Indeed, if the trend tracks last year, the U.S. could be looking at a far less successful vaccine effectiveness this winter season."

My point was that flu-related doctor visits/hospitalizations aren't necessarily a sign that people aren't getting the flu shot, just that some years the vaccine isn't the best match. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I assume/hope the annual flu shot uptake has remained steady.

Not at all. After I posted I kind of wondered if it sounded like I was saying something against the flu shot, which I absolutely wasn't...so I clarified. Then I saw that I had somehow written patience instead of patients and didn't want an "Oh, dear", so I corrected it. Nothing to see here...

Was hospitalized four times last year, not from flu, but had c-diff twice. During the c-diff stays, I was put in my own room in isolation, with huge red signs and tape all over the doorway advising staff to wear masks, gloves, and gown up. Nothing could leave my room without being discarded into the biohazard trash or placed into a special bin for decontamination. Strangely, my huzbear never got it, thank goodness. During my visit in early Fall, while giving me meds, one of the staff came in with a needle already loaded. She said "flu season is already bad this year... do I have your permission...? I said "Yes" as the needle went into my arm. I always get flu and the latest COVID shots as soon as they come out, but put it off last year.
The last hospitalization lasted over four weeks. This time,, for heart, liver, and kidney failure. Yes, I'm a mess and will not survive this for long. Anyway, I was then transferred to a "post-acute rehab center for a week. It was basically a (depressing) nursing home. While there, husbear said there were seven rooms sealed off with the red warning signs on my floor. When we asked if c-diff is going around, they said no, that it was all MRSA cases bacterial, not viral infections). We couldn't wait to get home.
Getting back to flu, last year I knew of 3 or 4 friends who got flu, all lasting at least a week, none of whom got the vaccination. All otherwise healthy people. One was a UCLA-educated scientist in his late 20s who reported to me in a medical lab. He'd already had COVID earlier last year, which spread throughout the rest of the group. No vaccines. I'd already been sick and had been working from home. It was the last straw. I decided to retire. a couple of years early. During a Zoom meeting, I went off on a rampage about it. My boss was there, nodding in agreement and shaking his finger at them. I
t's been six months since I've seen them. I've lost 68 lbs and am skin and bones. I plan to visit soon and will confess that I've spent most of my adult live drinking and smoking myself to death.

My cousin has a weak immune system. He got his Flue Shot in November and became desperately ill with a different strain of flu a couple weeks ago. He had to go to the ER and get IVs for dehydration. High fevers that were all over the place and severe congestion and diarreah. It was bad. He is finally starting to feel better, but it was bad.
