Her very distinctive qualities made her a longshot for movie stardom. She hit the jackpot with some early screen parts that fit her like a glove (VIRGINIA WOOLF and UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE), but I'm sure that it quickly became apparent that this was a "specialty" talent.

Whatever she had, she kept it intact -- her contributions to THE FOUR SEASONS and COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME JIMMY DEAN JIMMY DEAN and (in a small part) ANOTHER WOMAN were every bit as good as her work in VIRGINIA WOOLF.

I didn't realize she lived with Eric Roberts (1980-1985) and he was with her when he had that awful accident that put him in a coma.

About Sandy, he said Dennis told him she had many lesbian relationships and that she "appreciated the beauty of women. But she also liked and appreciated what a very, very young man could do to a woman, I suppose."

Roberts said one of the reasons they broke up is that she became a cat collector. He was cool with multiple cats (he and his second wife run a cat, dog, and squirrel rescue) but she kept taking more and more cats in.

I saw her in a flop Broadway show called The Supporting Cast. I was a kid but I remember thinking she was hysterically funny. (especially during a scene where her character can't stop laughing.)

I liked her as the kooky child counselor in Parents. She accidentally drops her cigarette in her lap. It's about a boy who suspects his Cleaver-like parents may be cannibals.
