Yes, my ex had borderline personality disorder and he would routinely slowly crawl in his truck in front of my house as well as his other ex’s house. He never did anything but it was still very unsettling.

My cat sometimes stalks me around dinner time. I think she fancies herself a hunter.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 6, 2025 10:40 PM |
I think we are all stalked on social media
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 6, 2025 11:14 PM |
I made the mistake of dating a cop, so yes. I've been stalked. Not fun.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 6, 2025 11:22 PM |
Let's just say my androgenous daughter used to have a pet rabbit.

Yes, in college. It was awful and before anyone took stalking seriously. He would, I later found out, pop the window in my apartment by the front door, unlock the door and just hang out jerking off all over.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 6, 2025 11:37 PM |
Yeah, it was annoying mostly. Looking out my window to see them in the shadows. Stuff like that. But I never felt like I was in danger. It was just creepy

A straight, apparently mentally-disturbed neighbor started stalking me. You'd never know he was a weirdo upon first meeting him - funny, cute, engaging. We hung out quite a few times, and because of my busy work travel, couldn't hang out for a month or so at one point. His text messages slowly started getting a bit more aggressive. "Are you seriously not available to hang out for 2 more weeks!? WTF" Me: Yes, I'm traveling, plus I have some other things I'm already committed to, etc. After some time, I started getting weird texts like "How was the trip?" when I 100% did not tell him I was traveling. Or "Had a busy day today? Seems like it." Finally they got really bad - the moment I'd get to my door from anywhere, he'd text "How was your day" - always the exact moment I returned home.
I started distancing myself, quit hanging out, and finally he had a big meltdown and told me to not ever contact him, he was blocking me, etc. It was so strange.

I would never trust a cop, I know it's not fair to think that way, but I trust my instincts.

When i was in seminary and then a clergyman (a story i've told elsewhere), i had FOUR SEPARATE women fall in love with me & stalk me (showing up unannounced at my house, etc.).

Mildly

A guy I was living with began acting jealous to the extreme and for no reason. He was involved in politics and left me at home a lot. It was a semi-privileged life, in a materialistic sense, but I knew I needed to end it one night when he went overboard and scared me. I found an apartment nearby on the UES and I'd come home from a date and see him parked across the street watching me. He enlisted my mother in trying to get me back, promised me all sorts of incentives if I'd return. Finally, I moved to California and he got over it.

A few times.
Once from a crazy guy - I answered an ad he had in a gay newspaper, and he was just cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs crazy. When I wouldn't return his phone calls he got really nasty and called my answering machine, saying things like "Jenny Craig is having a sale, you fat bitch!" I had his call traced (this was back in the day) and I think the cops had to talk to him.
I met two different guys the year before my partner and I met, and both apparently fell for me and wouldn't stop messaging me or contacting me at social events. With one I had to say, loudly and in front of mutual friends at a party, "You are making me incredibly uncomfortable. I'm with him now, I don't know how to make it any clearer to you." I felt bad but he wouldn't stop otherwise.
The other one seemed to be OK for a while and then decided to send me a message with two years of frustrations about all the things he found annoying in me. I cut off contact.
I hope I haven't ever stalked anyone. I think if anything, I'm too sensitive or over vigilant about other people's feelings and if I feel a vibe that they aren't into me, I vanish real quick.

I wish a dog would stock me
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 7, 2025 12:02 AM |
I have stalked people my entire life. I don't know if I have been stalked. Probably most people have been stalked (researched online, drive by your house, etc. )

I feel your swoon but for the life of me I can't picture what color "bittersweet" is. Or are employing a poetic allusion?

I’ve been stalked by a few women. In one case, it started to veer into Fatal Attraction territory. I had purchased an opera ticket and was seated next to a woman by herself. It turned out, she had 2 season tickets and would release 1 if she didn’t have anyone to join her.
I found that out during a short conversation during intermission, and we exchanged numbers. She then proceeded to bombard me with WhatsApp messages and propose future meetings.
Fortunately, this happened abroad and I had to return to the US. I hope we lost contact for good.

Is researching people online that you used to know, but not contacting them in any way, a form of stalking? It seems harmless and like a version of “whatever happened to?”
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 7, 2025 12:47 AM |
I do that R20. So it's ok.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 7, 2025 12:48 AM |
Some of my gentleman callers can’t get enough and resort to uncouth ways to force my attention.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 7, 2025 12:59 AM |
R20, I think a lot of us do that. I call that simple human curiosity, not stalking.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 7, 2025 1:03 AM |
^To add to the above, researching a potential date or new romantic partner is not stalking. It's due diligence, part of keeping yourself out of harm's way.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 7, 2025 1:05 AM |
R20 it's reasonable curiosity.....unless you are looking them up on a daily/weekly/frequent basis - which then crosses the line into stalkery behavior.

Put me down as the third to have dated a cop. He was my first real attempt at a LTR; we were together for 14 months total. For the first eight, he was sweet, attentive and we did a lot of things together. I could tell he was very devoted to his family, who lived in town; I really liked them and they really liked me.
Long story short, at the end of our relationship neither of us were our best selves. I cheated on him and he taped my phone calls. He would then follow me if I was going out with friends or the side piece and take pictures of the activities. When we finally ended it he sobbed and begged me not to end it. We each had a rough first month apart, to his credit I only caught him slow-rolling by my new place twice.

I was warned never to date a cop. I slept with two and I made sure I didn't see either one again after the fuck sessions.

This is one of my biggest fears. It’s one reason I support gun rights. Police can’t do shit until the person does something - like murder you.

This thread should get a spinoff for those who have cop gone wrong dating/relationship stories.

Over-weight, female co-worker. Single and lonely. I befriended her when she started at the office. Just superficial polite conversation. Then she started popping up wherever I was in the evening. - At stores, the theatre, art galleries, street fairs, concerts.
Long story short: I figured out that she would sneak over to my desk and thumb through my day-planner (it was back in the 90s). She worked in a different department the other side of the floor, so she had to make a deliberate effort to snoop on me. Being passive aggressive, I wrote down some bogus events in the planner and sent her on a wild goose chase on random evenings. I also became more reclusive and didn't discuss my off-work life to coworkers.
when I started to avoid her, she had a meltdown in front of everybody. I learned a lot of co-workers were clued in on my dilemma and found it entertaining. Her boss told her to knock it off and another female co-worker advised her that she was wasting her time.
Eventually, I got another job.

This is hilarious. WTF is up with straights trying to convince gays to get involved with them? I've heard lesbians complain about the same thing.

R31, I think it's an ego thing--some straight people like to prove to themselves and others how irresistible they are by seducing gay people. (See? I can get anyone!)
Yes, it's sad.
