I can’t believe she only ever received two Grammy nominations.
Why did Taylor Dayne’s career go down the shitter?

No talent. All he had was a cherubic smile and a great body. That combination doesn't last very long, and if it does it loses its appeal after a time.

R1, you really think she can’t sing??

I saw her perform at EPCOT center in 2010. She was fabulous.

Didn't she perform at Mar-a-Lago? That's a surefire way to kill an already flatlining career.

The MAGA

Because she kept rebuffing Tig Notaro's complements!

She was in the ladies room stall next to Streisand one year at the Grammys and she was out of TP. She made the mistake of asking Babs if she had any to spare.

I *love* her voice.

Her career declined about 30 years before Mar a Lago.
Gays for some reason stopped promoting genuinely talented singers at one point and started propping up photogenic mediocrity, Dayne had an AMAZING voice and supermodel looks. But it wasn’t enough in an MTV era.
The good news is she had kept her looks while her more successful contemporaries have aged badly.

Oh, God, for the day when we can once again separate the talent from the politics. She hasn’t been artistically relevant for forty years now. She was a breathtaking departure from the norm at the time, and I’m grateful to her for that. You might even say that I’ll always love her, for the rest of my days 🎶…

Supermodel looks??? Maybe she was a model in the "Black Hole Sun" video.... that's what the photo in the OP reminded me of.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 6, 2025 9:51 PM |
Wtf has she done to her face? I'm so glad I'm broke so I can't do this shit, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 6, 2025 9:52 PM |
I still think she's wonderful, and she's still actively touring.

R13 here fishie fishie

She had a better run than most. Music was turned on its head at that time with grunge and rap shoving the prevailing trends of the time right off of the map. MTV itself was abandoning music as a format for a lifestyle and game show focus that elbowed videos onto VH-1, which was the career killing kiss of death for young audiences who saw the channel as MOR Lifetime for old folks.

She had pretty big pop hits, fell out with Clive Davis and went independent. She's had big hits on the dance charts in recent years.

Clive Davis scoldingly noted in his autobiography that had Taylor Dayne listened to him in regards of what to release, her career would have lasted longer.

R1 is ignorant
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 6, 2025 10:10 PM |
What r16 said. Music tastes changed, and her sound was dated overnight. She had a great voice but most of her stuff was the Adult Contemporary sound that fell off in the early 90s.

I always liked her music - wish she did more.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 6, 2025 10:22 PM |
I guess she’s forgiven for performing for the MAGAs..she was a special guest at the Christmas bash thrown by Belinda Carlisle and Sandra Bernhard.

Tell It To My Heart was the only song of hers I liked. And that was a cover. The rest of her stuff was lame "Lite FM" secretary music, like Gloria Estefan.
