Have we ever done a poll on our posters' educations? If we have, let's do another one now.
Are DLers Well-Educated?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 7, 2025 4:30 AM |
I dropped out of community college after a few semesters because I couldn't afford it and my family was pressuring me to just work instead.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 6, 2025 11:58 AM |
ED does not belong in the same category as MD and PhD.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 6, 2025 12:01 PM |
r2 It could easily be lumped in with Ph.D. - but agree, not MD
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 6, 2025 12:03 PM |
ED is not the same as PhD, at all. It's a bullshit degree.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 6, 2025 12:04 PM |
I know, R2 and R4 -- I didn't know where else to put it.
I once took a grad-level education class as a requirement for a research degree in Educational Research and Measurement. I could not get over how incredibly stupid the other students were.
I had a statistical background that was much, much better than the "professor" who was teaching the course. I dropped the class immediately after it was over.
Could you answer the question anyway? TIA
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 6, 2025 12:05 PM |
r4 No one said it's the same. It can easily be lumped in with Ph.D., however.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 6, 2025 12:06 PM |
r5 What are you hoping to do with this data? What will you do with this worthless data?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 6, 2025 12:07 PM |
Well educated people love the give and take of debating with people that do not agree with them on every issue of the day,
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 6, 2025 12:07 PM |
r8 True, and now I'm bowing out and going back to trashy posts!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 6, 2025 12:10 PM |
OP you're wasting your time. DL is full of fantasists.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 6, 2025 12:12 PM |
So far, 35+% have masters or more, which doesn't surprise me.
17% have only a high school degree. That does surprise me.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 6, 2025 12:13 PM |
r11 / OP do you really think people are answering this truthfully? Hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 6, 2025 12:16 PM |
Will the OP give us an update when his peer reviewed study is published?
Next week I will be doing a DL survey that will be the basis for my thesis for my ED. They wanted me in the PhD program but I wanted the best,
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 6, 2025 12:21 PM |
R12 There was a poll on here once about eye colour and the results for green (the rarest eye colour) were something like 20x its prevalence.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 6, 2025 12:23 PM |
R11 what surprised you about that 17%?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 6, 2025 12:23 PM |
[quote]do you really think people are answering this truthfully?
No idea. I'm simply remarking on the results versus my expectation.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 6, 2025 12:26 PM |
A big portion of DLers are less educated than I'd expect and/or younger than I'd expect.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 6, 2025 12:31 PM |
^^^ I mean R14
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 6, 2025 12:32 PM |
I discovered DL by finding by accident a thread. I thought—-these are some really smart people.
But the reality of DL is so much different. Some of the most insanely stupid comments and idiocy ever posted on an online forum.
So dumb many of these comments and world views I fear for the future.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 6, 2025 12:32 PM |
It's a fact: well educated people can be incredibly stupid. Everybody knows this.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 6, 2025 12:35 PM |
If well educated people are not getting smarter, and if so many 50 year olds find themselves with no retirement no future no hope then why are so many wasting their time running up so much debt in college?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 6, 2025 12:41 PM |
I’m educated but drawn to the performing arts like a moth to a flame.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 6, 2025 1:49 PM |
I dropped out of kindergarten.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 6, 2025 4:23 PM |
I dropped out of college 1/2 way through my junior year.
Went into the film industry then advertising. I now consult, work about 6 months a year and travel the other 6.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 6, 2025 4:36 PM |
No. Extremely stupid and uneducated. Most lack taste too.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 6, 2025 4:41 PM |
"that will be the basis for my thesis for my ED" ... there already is quite a bit of published work discussing Erectile Disfunction.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 6, 2025 4:42 PM |
r4, they are two very different things. ED = erectile dysfunction. PhD = Pretty hard Dick.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 6, 2025 4:57 PM |
R24 That’s my dream. Nothing much for me to consult on these days, which is sad.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 6, 2025 5:02 PM |
I (sorta) attended Rubicam's Business College.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 6, 2025 5:21 PM |
Your list sucks. There is no LL.D in the US—it’s an ‘other’ or foreign degree. You should have list LLM, which is what foreign lawyer earn in the US to make for a lack of a JD.
P.S. whenever I did hiring interviews of lawyers, if you wrote “Juris Doctorate” rather than Juris Doctorate then the resume went straight into the trash can.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 6, 2025 5:22 PM |
Who would admit to going to trade school?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 6, 2025 5:23 PM |
*rather than Juris Doctor
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 6, 2025 5:24 PM |
Does flunking out of Trump University count?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 6, 2025 5:38 PM |
R31 is an example of progressive Dems and their understanding and support of blue collar workers who are electricians, pipe fitters, plumbers, mechanics, etc
The kind of people who are not on DL every week complaining about no retirement, no apt, no money, no future.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 6, 2025 5:40 PM |
I have an MBA but it does absolutely nothing for me in the industry I work in. A company I worked for about 23 years ago paid for the schooling, then laid me off 18 months later.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 6, 2025 6:52 PM |
I love trade
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 6, 2025 11:52 PM |
Well at least your ex-employer paid for the MBA, R35, so you're not out anything.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 6, 2025 11:53 PM |
R31 Someone with more money than you.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 7, 2025 12:09 AM |
I have an MBA from 1976. It used to actually mean something. It helped land a great position with a company where I worked for 33 years, until I retired. Today I don't think it means much. I've talked to people who've gotten MBAs and many of them don't seem to have it together, or know 1/10th of what I knew when I finished college. It scares me to think what they're teaching (or not teaching) these kids today.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 7, 2025 12:32 AM |
r30 You write like an idiot. You don't need to be criticizing OP in any way, dear.
You should have list LLM
which is what foreign lawyer earn
Oh, dear
