Tanning

I’m tired of looking at my white hands this winter. Had a beautiful tan this summer. Anything I need to do before I enter a tanning bed?

Run, OP, run.

Check yourself in.

Yes, take it slow. Maybe supplement with astaxanthin, 12-24 mg.

Cover your face or wear sunscreen on your face. Wear the goggles

Don't die in a tanning bed like the women listening to Roller Coaster in one of the Final Destination movies. That was thrillingly gross.

by Anonymousreply 4January 6, 2025 6:13 AM

I always wore sunscreen in there no matter what they say.

I used to enjoy tanning beds. As a matter of fact, in the 90s, I would go to Beach Bum for their free initial complimentary session all over NYC. It was heaven!

It’s great for mommy-daughter time after afternoon wine.

You’re gonna end up like Ashley and Ashlyn.

Walk away.

Get a spray tan instead. They've come a long way

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2025 2:56 AM

Go die in a grease fire

Use a home fake tanner - they are much better now than the old orange stuff. Check out B.Tan line you can get in most wallgreens, walmarts and CVS. I use that brand and it works out great.

Skin cancer

I had an overly tanned friend who once commented on how white I was. He’s now dead, while I still have great skin.

Read up on melanoma.

by Anonymousreply 15January 8, 2025 3:39 AM

Take an Ambien, first.

[quote] Anything I need to do before I enter a tanning bed?

Most important things are probably to develop a relaxed attitude towards skin cancer and leathery skin.

by Anonymousreply 17January 8, 2025 3:46 AM

If I hadn't soaked up the sun so much when I was young, I'd probably have better skin now. But I loved it.

The last time I went to a tanning salon was years ago. As I waited for a bed to become available, I watched as one customer after customer departed. Each had skin worse than the other. When I finally got my bed for my 20-minute session, my mind raced with images of my fellow patrons. After two minutes, I stopped the timer, collected my belongings & left. As I indicated, it was my last time to visit such an establishment.

I love a 15 minute vacation.

Make sure you keep good insurance for the inevitable skin cancer treatments, as well as start a fund to cover the various wrinkle and dark spot treatments.

Make sure someone is going to watch your walker for you while your in the actual tanning bed. It would suck to get it stolen.

r19 "my mind raced with images of my fellow patrons"

Nothing personal, but you sound overly dramatic and tedious.

by Anonymousreply 25January 8, 2025 11:15 AM

Or someone who likes to think for himself. If “overly dramatic and tedious” to you, so be it.

by Anonymousreply 26January 8, 2025 1:28 PM

r21 is right... I used to go 2x a month in the winter for a little color... now I have had 4 Mohs surgeries on my face for basal cell carcinomas... not fun. Not pretty. 100% caused by the UV rays of the machine.

by Anonymousreply 27January 8, 2025 2:15 PM

Don’t pee in the tanning bed at Planet Fitness.

by Anonymousreply 29January 8, 2025 3:45 PM

Use a self tanner.
