CBS: Thune Told Trump That Hegseth Has The Votes
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has privately told President-elect Donald Trump that he believes Pete Hegseth will have the votes to be confirmed as Secretary of Defense, according to three sources.
When asked for comment, a spokesman for Thune would only tell CBS News, “Two things we don’t discuss publicly: Whip counts and private conversations with the president.” Hegseth’s confirmation hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14, according to Senate Armed Services Chairman Roger Wicker.
Trump named Hegseth his pick for Defense Secretary on Nov. 12, a week after the election. Days later, Hegseth came under fire amid accusations of past sexual misconduct. An unidentified woman accused Hegseth of sexual assault in a Moneterey, California, hotel room in 2017.

Sounds like we'll have a revolving door of appointees once the reality of their incompetence sets it. The good news is there are career government workers who will be put in interim roles who will do a good job...as long as that grifty Doge bullshit doesn't get them fired.

Imagine how much he’ll sweat his way through his confirmation hearing.
The Democrats are going to put him through a Slice-o-matic.

R1 That’s what he plans to do. Dump plans to get rid of the Department of Education on day 1. I suspect the Department of Arts & Culture too. No government agency is likely safe except the Justice Department.

Unbelievable. A drunken abuser of women who championed the cause of three men who were guilty of war crimes.
The GOP has been purged of all those who may oppose this filth. It is now in lockstep with the filth.

The Democrats questioning him during the Senate hearing would do well to focus on his fiscal irresponsibility and possible fraud committed when he ran two non- profit veterans' advocacy groups that were funded by right wing money.
IIRC, one of them was Koch funded He practically bankrupt the first one. He was "lateraled" out to another one with a glowing recommendation just to get rid of him. A lot of the funds were used for drinking/partying/strip clubs. He ignored one employee's complaint of being sexually assaulted at the strip club.
Not that any of the sex pest shit would bother the GOP, but maybe blowing up the budget to party might bother them a little considering Pentagon budget oversight he'll be responsible for. Oh, who am I kidding...

I can already predict what Collins will say: "I take Pete at his word that he is a changed man, will respect women in the military, and that he will live up to his promise to live a life of sobriety while he is the Secretary."

At his stage of alcoholism (day drinking in the office, drinking before appearing on air), he's got to be a maintenance drinker who *needs* to drink. Has he disappeared for a few days to detox? He's probably on some benzo so he doesn't go into DTs if he's not drinking.
But I can't imagine he's going to get through it without drinking.
The stress of the preparation for the hearings is going to do a number on him. Yes, he's Princeton educated, but he's used to reading off a teleprompter while pickled, not being analytical or thinking on his feet under pressure. I'd hate to be the people preparing him.
Bottom line, I think he's going to be under the influence though not to previous levels.

Our only hope is that Hegseth will feel in over his head and will have to rely the career people surrounding him, and they will treat him according to his incompetence and keep the Pentagon running despite their boss.

Remember when we thought fascism would never happen here because there were so many checks?
The newspapers have already capitulated. Now the Senate is about to.
