I’m not some outer borough slumlord, I built the NY skyline. I didn’t lose, I won. The economy isn’t better under my opponent, it’s death and destruction.
The big news would be if he wasn’t gaslighting the world.

R8 and R9, I haven't read the Forbes article, but The NY Times has a piece in today's edition with similar news. The article also makes it very clear that the basics for households - food, gas, utilities, rent - are what voters focus on. Those numbers tell a different story to individuals and people tend to vote how their pocket book feels.
I'm a big Biden supporter, proud to have voted for him and for Harris/Walz, not an apologist in any way... but these articles, published in September or October would not have swayed many who "feel" burdened.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 5, 2025 11:42 PM |
R19 The voters are uneducated dumbasses. This economy is the best economy in the world. Our inflation rate is the best in the world. Biden tackled worldwide inflation the best of any of the big economies. In any other election, the legacy media would have been crowing about this and would have drilled it into voter’s heads.Look at 1984. Reagan had just come off a deep long recession with very high inflation. People were paying a lot more. But they credited him for saving the economy. The voters are about to get exactly what they voted for and it’s not gonna be pretty at all. Republicans are a disaster for the economy. And always have been. So guess what? Fuck the voters who don’t want to feel talked down to.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 5, 2025 11:47 PM |
The voters don’t listen to anyone. They go with their “feelings”. So you know what they’re about to find out because they fucked around a long time. Each time we’ve had a chance to sustain a great economy like after Clinton going into Al Gore or Obama going into Hillary we decide no we don’t like nice things and we opt for yet more Republican economic Fuckery. Well, this time the pain’s gonna be very very bad.

If inflation was Biden’s fault and he didn’t fix it I would understand voter’s frustration. In fact, there is strong evidence Trump’s mishandling of Covid actually made our inflation worse. And the price gouging that was going on wasn’t reported enough. Kroger’s CEO admitted under oath they price gouged. The voters proud ignorance is going to cause us a lot of pain.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 6, 2025 12:03 AM |
The numbers are just a generalization that simplifies reality. It's a tale of at least two countries in which people bought or had a house and had an income to afford the headwinds of inflation and they could get a pay increase with said inflation. Their parents had cash when it mattered and payed their school and threw them a fat check for a down payment back when a shack house wasn't 800,000.00 dollars Then there's the people who fell the other way who became redundant and didn't have valued skills they could trade up on and access to that housing at a time it was affordable for the middle class.Maybe they went to school and ended up in a lower wage trap paying off their loans. Maybe their families couldn't or didn't help them. Some are not cut out for education, after hight school they worked the minimum at a crap job, played video games after work ignoring the world. . Some chilled out, smoked weed or did meth, too lit to take an opportunity that never came. Many lingered too long in the arts making gas money and not much else, maybe a minor sporting league dreaming of the big time, drugged by ego and media hyperbole, to think of themselves as the next Picasso or Abdul Jamar, hoping to make it. The pitfalls are numerous. Now small armies are living in their cars doing doordash to afford a hotel and a meal for the night. Every person has a story and luck and blessings are very uneven. The USA is very unforgiving and if one messes up has crap parents or gets ill one may never get on a positive path. Sorry for the sermon. Ahmen.

R24 PUHHHLEEEEEZE. All those who are storming, marching, and bitching the most live in McMansions, drive huge F-150s, and live comfortably.
The problem is many of those bozos live in Red states where they are regressively taxed, have minimal services, where the education systems suck, and blame Democrats.
Our country is wealthy, bored, indulgent, lives above their means, and vote to keep it that way. 100 years of economic data shows Democrats perform better on the economy by every metric. BIDEN has an amazing economy. Yes, amazing. The number of jobs, the low unemployment, wages outpacing inflation, manufacturing booming for the first time in 50 years, $4T of wealth shifted down to the bottom 90% and for the he is HATED? FUCK THE IGNORANT AMERICAN VOTER. Clock just struck 12, cunts. You are about to feel pain like only your great grandparents felt.
Voters SHOULD be talked down to like 5 year olds because that is exactly how they behave and how they make decisions.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 6, 2025 12:22 AM |
I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. A president inherits an absolute mess. He fixes the mess and makes everything better. He pulls off an economic miracle by bringing down inflation without a recession or high unemployment. That is unheard of. He ushers in an era of booming manufacturing that we thought was gone. And for this he’s hated and we’re throwing him, his vice president, and his party out of office.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 6, 2025 12:56 AM |
Most average Americans, the ones with kids and jobs and bills they can barely afford, don’t have time to follow the news. Hell, even if they did, most don’t have the mental ability to understand economics, what role the President plays in it, and exactly how those larger issues affect their lives.
The vast majority of voters, red or blue, conservative or liberal, vote based on feelings. It’s a sad state of affairs, but it’s the truth. Fear and love, take your pick, that’s what our system is built on.
With an undereducated electorate, the onus is on the politicians to communicate with the voter and sell them a message that resonates with whatever they are feeling. Numbers don’t matter, realities don’t matter. If you can pick something that sounds truer and hits closer to home with them than your opponent, you win.
Kamala, just like Hillary, was obviously the more qualified candidate. But they weren’t the most authentic and weren’t able to play on emotions and feelings as much as Trump. I’d argue that Obama won more on feelings than numbers, Clinton also won more on feelings than numbers.
Real numbers, real issues haven’t mattered in a long time, if they ever had. It how a nominee makes you feel. One of the truest things ever said about Presidential politics came from LBJ:
[quote] If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.
That quote is not really about race, it’s about feelings, and says more about the role that they play in politics than any in the last 75 years.

by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 6, 2025 11:20 AM |
In my lifetime, with the exception of Carter, the economy has done much better under Democratic presidents and much worse under Republican presidents. It is a point of fact, not opinion, not feeling, fact.
However, if you polled Americans; red, blue, and purple, the majority will tell you that Republican presidents are better on the economy. This isn’t grounded in fact, it’s based on feeling. Conservatism feels like it should be better for the economy. Conservatism feels like it should spend less money. Ignore the reality that it never is and it never does. Feelings are what matter. You could buy every billboard in this country and paste this fact in big, black, bold letters and it still wouldn’t help, because feelings trump facts in this world.
The pendulum will swing back to a democratic president, at least if history is any guide. The problem in this new world is that we have elected a president who is not a conservative, he is a populist with dictatorial ideas and god help us if he gets his way. If he stops the pendulum, we might not ever have a chance to see it swing any other way than down.
It shouldn’t be surprising, honestly. Looking at history and the democratic states, as they were, post Egyptian bondage Israel, early Greece and pre-Empire Rome, and the German tribes before they took over Western Europe, they all went from an idea of government based on the consent of at least some group of citizens, to the idea of a king or a strongman. We are the same humans, with the same impulses. Once we have a form of self determination and things get good, we become fearful it will end and call for a strong man to make sure it doesn’t.
I’ve never prayed for a king like the Israelites when they got Saul, but good lord, does our first ruler have to be someone so goddamned stupid!!

by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 6, 2025 11:30 AM |
R70 It’s not. It has always been a combo of the economy, racism, misogyny, and homophobia tied to the patriarchy. Groan all you want, but that is fact.
Whites in this country are scared shitless about losing their majority, when in fact they will still have a plurality for a long, long time.
Take immigration, it was Reagan and HW Bush who granted amnesty and the southern states were flooded with Mexicans within a few years. Some TX cities, fairly big ones, saw their schools go from 70% White to 70% Hispanic within 5 years. Republicans and their donors at Big Corps wanted this and so it was. When they realized the children of those Hispanics were voting Blue, unlike the Cubans, they freaked out, and made immigration, which they conveniently never solve and never want to solve, the boogeyman. Now, we must go through a painful, expensive, shameful, nightmarish purge to expel them.
Conservatives are a GD scourge on the world.

Things are bad for almost everyone but the wealthy and the office class. Now they are coming in earnest for the office class, too. When you get permanently downsized will you then understand what everyone else is enduring?
You can sit here and call MAGA names, but we're as much to blame. Did any of us call our politicians to task when they acted as corporate handmaidens (NAFTA, bank bailouts, etc., etc.) and abandoned the working class? No, myself included. We haven't raised the minimum wage in years. Housing costs are skyrocketing, along with homelessness. Education and health are in shambles - literally, if you know anyone in those spheres you would know things are dire. This is how most of the county lives. The Democrats would’ve never dismantled the middle and all the other horror show things Republicans did since Nixon. NAFTA was thought to be a good thing at first and of course it depends on who’s in the executive branch to manage it. The bank bailouts- we all would’ve been fucked If we didn’t bail out the banks unfortunately.
R86 they did it to themselves and they keep doing it to themselves. What idiots keep voting for the same thing over and over again and nothing changes. If they would kick Republicans out of office, I guarantee you their station in life would change. But no, they keep conservatives in power for social and cultural issues. They would rather live in hell than to give anything to “them”.
What’s a real kicker is Biden actually was delivering for everyone. He shifted over $4 trillion to the bottom 90% and was building the economy from the ground and the middle up instead of from the top down. There was real progress and it appeared we were going to have an economy that actually resembled the thorough, deep economic gains we had in the 50s and 60s. What does he get in return? He’s hated.
No side is perfect but the blame is far from even. I’d say the blame is about 75% on Republicans.

R86, those rural people VOTE for that shit!
I grew up in a conservative, rural county. They’ve been voting for this stupid shit for the last four decades!
Yes, the minimum wage is shit, jobs in those places are scarce and hard to keep. But they VOTE FOR IT!
Year after year, they vote to keep the minimum wage at a pittance, cut healthcare, close their local hospital, and stop businesses from moving into their area.
They vote to keep themselves in fucking poverty. I have no pity for those idiots. I still remember the massive fight when an auto supplier wanted to open a MANUFACTURING SITE in the county seat.
This place was going to bring in hundreds of GOOD PAYING, UNION JOBS and the dumb cunts voted against it!
They didn’t want the traffic from the big trucks, the new people moving into the area to start the place up or the cost of local housing to rise. Of all the dumb assed, short sighted shit, that had to take the cake.
They didn’t care that it would bring jobs, money and new taxes to the area. Or that any one moving in would spend money in that small town, thus supporting many of their OWN small gas stations, stores, repair shops, and farms.
Just fucking short sighted, stuck in the 1800s, refusing to vote for something to improve their miserable lives.

I never said both sides are the same. I said we are as much to blame for the country being a disaster. We let the Democratic Party slide too far to the right and become beholden to corporate interests instead of workers.
NAFTA was obviously corporate welfare to anyone with two brain cells and as laughable as trickledown economics. The bank "bailouts" were an obscene cash grab from the financial industry and a test to see how far they could push the screws into the public. Guess what? We failed. We should have rioted as they do in France.
Biden is so great? Why the fuck didn't he fire Garland and get someone who would prosecute Trump for treason? Why did he select him to begin with? It is indefensible. Gravely so.
Stop defending these assholes. They are public servants whose feet should be held to the fire at all times. Our lazy asses let them sell us to the highest bidder and you all are quibbling about the deplorables.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 7, 2025 4:30 AM |
Democrats didn’t slide right. Voters pushed them more right. They encouraged it because, as we all see, voters think conservatism is better for the economy. It’s not. They think rewarding billionaires and big business is better for the economy. Now, conservatives run almost all media and Democrats have huge headwinds to land any counter message.

Democrats, unlike Republicans, have an increasingly unreliable base, so they must try to attract more independents and moderate Republicans. Therefore, the party has shifted more to the right.
What progressives and some liberals don't seem to understand is that if you want a more progressive party, you have to show up and vote in EVERY election, especially the way down-ballot races, in order to build a farm team. If you're only voting every 4 years and sitting out the state legislative races, local school boards, and dog catchers, you're not helping yourselves.
The President is not a King; change begins way down the ballot. If voters are unhappy with the Democratic Party, they only have to look in the mirror at themselves as the cause. You think Biden and Pelosi are too old? Why aren't you building up the next generation?
People want Genie-blink changes, that's not how any of this works.

R106 They lost due to propaganda. If you poll voters on INDIVIDUAL issues, they fall left on almost everyone. But it feels good to say you're conservative, or far right. They think it sounds tough. They're about to see how "tough" they really are.
Voters would become slaves than admit they're economic liberals. Those racist southern Democrats of the 40-70s were economic liberals, but cultural conservatives. They changed when culture issues started becoming more important to them than their standard of living.

He also says that Trump "seriously considered" tapping Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo as his running mate, before being talked out of it by his team.

The sucky part is most people don't understand how things work with the economy and government. The economy is like turning an aircraft carrier. It takes time and planning to turn it. All the efforts Biden made over the last four years will take effect during Trump's first two years. All of the benefits Trump will take credit for. The same is true of what Trump did to the economy. The gas and food prices under Biden were a direct result of Trump's economy. The difference is that Biden didn't blame Trump every two seconds. He just put in the work to fix it. Trump will be dismantling that over the next four years, a lot of it in the first day.

Of course Dump will immediately take credit for the economic recovery that Biden created. He'll coast on that for a while until he royally fucks it up. Just like he did the first time, coasting along on Obama's economic recovery from the Great Recession (caused by the previous Republican, George W. Bush).
The thing is, the American public has become so dumbed down, they'll just believe the loudest voice which is Dump, Fox, and the reich wing propagandists. They'll think the next recession will have been caused by Biden/Democrats because that's what they're told.
A truly depressing time.
