Trump Sees the U.S. as a ‘Disaster.’ The Numbers Tell a Different Story.

"The America that Trump will inherit from President Biden… is actually in better shape than that bequeathed to any newly elected president since George W. Bush came into office in 2001.”

by Anonymousreply 2January 5, 2025 9:34 PM

Oh, we’re back to posting the NYTimes? 🙄

by Anonymousreply 3January 5, 2025 9:36 PM

NO. FORBES FUCKING MAGAZINE, MAGAT BITCH.

by Anonymousreply 4January 5, 2025 9:38 PM

No shit, Sherlock! This is what Trump has done since he came onto the scene. I’m not bankrupt, I’m rich. I’m not a loser, I’m a winner. I’m not a nepo baby, I’m self-made. I’m not some outer borough slumlord, I built the NY skyline. I didn’t lose, I won. The economy isn’t better under my opponent, it’s death and destruction.

The big news would be if he wasn’t gaslighting the world.

by Anonymousreply 5January 5, 2025 9:45 PM

Yep. He will take credit for anything good that happens during the next 4 years, even if it was originally started by Biden.

by Anonymousreply 6January 5, 2025 10:31 PM

The only disaster is Trump. He must have been looking in the mirror when he made that statement.

by Anonymousreply 7January 5, 2025 10:54 PM

Maybe November would have played out differently if those great numbers had been reported much earlier instead of all the other nonsense. Just saying.

by Anonymousreply 8January 5, 2025 10:57 PM

r8 is the only 1 who understands this.

by Anonymousreply 9January 5, 2025 11:21 PM

Trump trash

by Anonymousreply 10January 5, 2025 11:24 PM

He projects whatever he truly thinks about himself onto whoever or whatever he's talking negatively about. Whenever he tries to be positive about anything, all he does is fumble with words and make nonsense gibberish. But when he doesn't like something, he's really seeing himself.

by Anonymousreply 11January 5, 2025 11:27 PM

If I had orange peel skin texture, the last thing I'd do is paint myself orange

by Anonymousreply 12January 5, 2025 11:29 PM

I can't wait for the equivocating and excuses when fewer jobs are added, prices go up, and the next disaster is bungled.

A stupid girl from my high school class (not in the smart student classes) says she is "just so relieved to get rid of ALL of Biden's Marxism" which I'd bet my mother's life she cannot define. I'm from Massachusetts.

by Anonymousreply 13January 5, 2025 11:29 PM

R8 and R9, I haven't read the Forbes article, but The NY Times has a piece in today's edition with similar news. The article also makes it very clear that the basics for households - food, gas, utilities, rent - are what voters focus on. Those numbers tell a different story to individuals and people tend to vote how their pocket book feels.

I'm a big Biden supporter, proud to have voted for him and for Harris/Walz, not an apologist in any way... but these articles, published in September or October would not have swayed many who "feel" burdened.

by Anonymousreply 14January 5, 2025 11:31 PM

He's horrible.

by Anonymousreply 15January 5, 2025 11:32 PM

And I get it R14. This was an election about vibes more than anything else, but I don't think the legacy media helped tell the real story. Instead of doing their jobs and reporting the facts, they just reported the vibes, too.

by Anonymousreply 16January 5, 2025 11:35 PM

oh economic numbers designed to explain how well the rich and upper middle class is doing look good? this bullshit framework is why kamala lost. it's why we are cooked. our economy is a disaster and if the numbers say that it isn't then the numbers are fucking propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 17January 5, 2025 11:40 PM

"Our" economy? Really bitch?

by Anonymousreply 18January 5, 2025 11:41 PM

Maybe if Democrats LISTENED to voters instead of TELLING them they were just imagining things and needed to be educated, r16

by Anonymousreply 19January 5, 2025 11:42 PM

R19 The voters are uneducated dumbasses. This economy is the best economy in the world. Our inflation rate is the best in the world. Biden tackled worldwide inflation the best of any of the big economies. In any other election, the legacy media would have been crowing about this and would have drilled it into voter’s heads.Look at 1984. Reagan had just come off a deep long recession with very high inflation. People were paying a lot more. But they credited him for saving the economy. The voters are about to get exactly what they voted for and it’s not gonna be pretty at all. Republicans are a disaster for the economy. And always have been. So guess what? Fuck the voters who don’t want to feel talked down to.

by Anonymousreply 20January 5, 2025 11:47 PM

The voters don’t listen to anyone. They go with their “feelings”. So you know what they’re about to find out because they fucked around a long time. Each time we’ve had a chance to sustain a great economy like after Clinton going into Al Gore or Obama going into Hillary we decide no we don’t like nice things and we opt for yet more Republican economic Fuckery. Well, this time the pain’s gonna be very very bad.

by Anonymousreply 21January 5, 2025 11:55 PM

I don't understand how the "fuck yer feelings" crowd make everything about their feelings and vibes!

completely irrational and proudly uneducated.

by Anonymousreply 22January 5, 2025 11:58 PM

If inflation was Biden’s fault and he didn’t fix it I would understand voter’s frustration. In fact, there is strong evidence Trump’s mishandling of Covid actually made our inflation worse. And the price gouging that was going on wasn’t reported enough. Kroger’s CEO admitted under oath they price gouged. The voters proud ignorance is going to cause us a lot of pain.

by Anonymousreply 23January 6, 2025 12:03 AM

The numbers are just a generalization that simplifies reality. It's a tale of at least two countries in which people bought or had a house and had an income to afford the headwinds of inflation and they could get a pay increase with said inflation. Their parents had cash when it mattered and payed their school and threw them a fat check for a down payment back when a shack house wasn't 800,000.00 dollars Then there's the people who fell the other way who became redundant and didn't have valued skills they could trade up on and access to that housing at a time it was affordable for the middle class.Maybe they went to school and ended up in a lower wage trap paying off their loans. Maybe their families couldn't or didn't help them. Some are not cut out for education, after hight school they worked the minimum at a crap job, played video games after work ignoring the world. . Some chilled out, smoked weed or did meth, too lit to take an opportunity that never came. Many lingered too long in the arts making gas money and not much else, maybe a minor sporting league dreaming of the big time, drugged by ego and media hyperbole, to think of themselves as the next Picasso or Abdul Jamar, hoping to make it. The pitfalls are numerous. Now small armies are living in their cars doing doordash to afford a hotel and a meal for the night. Every person has a story and luck and blessings are very uneven. The USA is very unforgiving and if one messes up has crap parents or gets ill one may never get on a positive path. Sorry for the sermon. Ahmen.

by Anonymousreply 24January 6, 2025 12:13 AM

R24 PUHHHLEEEEEZE. All those who are storming, marching, and bitching the most live in McMansions, drive huge F-150s, and live comfortably.

The problem is many of those bozos live in Red states where they are regressively taxed, have minimal services, where the education systems suck, and blame Democrats.

Our country is wealthy, bored, indulgent, lives above their means, and vote to keep it that way. 100 years of economic data shows Democrats perform better on the economy by every metric. BIDEN has an amazing economy. Yes, amazing. The number of jobs, the low unemployment, wages outpacing inflation, manufacturing booming for the first time in 50 years, $4T of wealth shifted down to the bottom 90% and for the he is HATED? FUCK THE IGNORANT AMERICAN VOTER. Clock just struck 12, cunts. You are about to feel pain like only your great grandparents felt.

Voters SHOULD be talked down to like 5 year olds because that is exactly how they behave and how they make decisions.

by Anonymousreply 25January 6, 2025 12:22 AM

I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. A president inherits an absolute mess. He fixes the mess and makes everything better. He pulls off an economic miracle by bringing down inflation without a recession or high unemployment. That is unheard of. He ushers in an era of booming manufacturing that we thought was gone. And for this he’s hated and we’re throwing him, his vice president, and his party out of office.

by Anonymousreply 26January 6, 2025 12:56 AM

Most average Americans, the ones with kids and jobs and bills they can barely afford, don’t have time to follow the news. Hell, even if they did, most don’t have the mental ability to understand economics, what role the President plays in it, and exactly how those larger issues affect their lives.

The vast majority of voters, red or blue, conservative or liberal, vote based on feelings. It’s a sad state of affairs, but it’s the truth. Fear and love, take your pick, that’s what our system is built on.

With an undereducated electorate, the onus is on the politicians to communicate with the voter and sell them a message that resonates with whatever they are feeling. Numbers don’t matter, realities don’t matter. If you can pick something that sounds truer and hits closer to home with them than your opponent, you win.

Kamala, just like Hillary, was obviously the more qualified candidate. But they weren’t the most authentic and weren’t able to play on emotions and feelings as much as Trump. I’d argue that Obama won more on feelings than numbers, Clinton also won more on feelings than numbers.

Real numbers, real issues haven’t mattered in a long time, if they ever had. It how a nominee makes you feel. One of the truest things ever said about Presidential politics came from LBJ:
If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.

That quote is not really about race, it’s about feelings, and says more about the role that they play in politics than any in the last 75 years.

Anything he hasn’t had a hand in is always a “disaster”

by Anonymousreply 29January 6, 2025 1:12 AM

R27 no, voters were not always this uneducated and they had families and jobs and all of that bullshit. They just don’t fucking care anymore and they’re about to find out what real pain is and what their ignorance will cause us.

by Anonymousreply 30January 6, 2025 1:13 AM

And vice versa. This is a successful business man who declared bankruptcy 6 times.

by Anonymousreply 31January 6, 2025 1:13 AM

Because now voters get their news from conservative sources, even local news is conservative now.

by Anonymousreply 32January 6, 2025 1:17 AM

I don't object to conservative news outlets. I object to propaganda.

Dump said he was gonna lower grocery prices. Then when he's interviewed post election on ABC, he says its really hard to get things back down once they are up.

by Anonymousreply 33January 6, 2025 1:21 AM

He's going to repeat that the country is a disaster, that we've become a shit hole country but at the first positive economic indicator, one month into the presidency, he'll say that the country is the best it's ever been *IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD*, with the lowest inflation ever and the second highest GDP growth since the dinosaurs and it'll all going to be thank to him only and the low info MAGAts will receive the news like economic gospel and think he really single-handedly turned things round all by himself, while everyone with a functioning brain knows that ETTD.

Narcs are SO predictable...

by Anonymousreply 34January 6, 2025 1:36 AM

"Today, I signed legislation expanding Social Security benefits for millions of teachers, firefighters, nurses, police officers, other public employees, and their spouses and survivors"

Trump is a turd and always has been

by Anonymousreply 36January 6, 2025 1:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 37January 6, 2025 1:59 AM

2024 had the highest number of airplane passengers in United States history.

If you can afford to travel ANYWHERE in record numbers times aren't so tough. Americans think a sociopath is "authentic" because he believes every lie coming out of his mouth. Reality and especially economics doesn't fit on a bumper sticker which is sadly all the average American can comprehend. That billionaire weirdo is right, we probably need to massively expand the HB-1 visas, we are a nation of nitwits.

by Anonymousreply 40January 6, 2025 2:24 AM

R40, airfares were sky-high in 2024.
Trump Sees the U.S. as a ‘Disaster.’

Well, it sure is about to be.

by Anonymousreply 43January 6, 2025 2:40 AM

Conservative media runs the narratives. They have an almost monopoly on news. You can bet the minute Trump is sworn in the stories about the great economy will be saturating. Voters will suddenly, without ONE thing changing, say the economy is great. He will get the credit.

When he blows it up, the media will blame RINOs, or Biden, or Democrats, and voters will believe it.

American voters, despite their education, are nitwits, dumbfucks, fucking idiots.

by Anonymousreply 44January 6, 2025 2:45 AM

There was a prolonged recession during the Reagan/Bush Sr years. The media had to trek to the middle of America to ask everyday people what the problem was. I recall one monosyllabic grunt, " jawbs".

What about jobs.

I noticed jawbs disappear when the trickle down skat queens are in office.

by Anonymousreply 45January 6, 2025 2:55 AM

What a fucking orange cunt.

Fuck that feckless asshole Garland.

That motherfucker had ONE FUCKING JOB and he fucked up it up EPICALLY.

by Anonymousreply 46January 6, 2025 3:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 47January 6, 2025 3:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 48January 6, 2025 3:17 AM

R20 And it's a politician's fucking job to speak to the people about what matters to them in a way they can no only understand but rally behind. Go ahead give up on that and we will never see another democrat in office again.

by Anonymousreply 49January 6, 2025 3:31 AM

These politicians are all shit tools, all of them. One term in office one term in prison. Biden voted to give more to public service workers of the money every worker paid into. He did this without resolving or even addressing the SS insolvency issue. This fucks the rest of who payed in and aren't public employees. What about when us non public workers have to get our SS Bennie's. This old man can't go soon enough. Every tom dick and harry with meth lung or acid brain is also getting SS depleting the fund not to mention ever growing army of veterans with PTSD no wonder the fund is dicey. Im not saying i don't hate the orange stain with a vengeance. He's even worse.

by Anonymousreply 50January 6, 2025 3:33 AM

R50 Oh fuck you magat. There is no SS insolvency issue, just a Republicans are bad at economics issue.

The ONLY way SS goes away or becomes insolvent is because Republicans make it so. Biden boxed them in- make it work for more and dare them to tax the fucking parasite billionaires.

by Anonymousreply 51January 6, 2025 3:45 AM

Within months Trump will claim the thriving economy as his own

by Anonymousreply 52January 6, 2025 4:07 AM

He needs to get rid of the shoe polish. Everyone knows his genes didn’t touch anywhere near the Mediterranean.

by Anonymousreply 53January 6, 2025 4:18 AM

I hope Trump dies very soon. He is evil.

by Anonymousreply 54January 6, 2025 4:33 AM

R52 nails it. This is why Trump has been saying the US is a disaster for years - even though facts don't support his claims and lies.

In a few months he will claim that he has fixed everything and only he could fix it etc.

We've got at least 4 years of this bullshit to look forward to.

by Anonymousreply 55January 6, 2025 4:43 AM
Maybe November would have played out differently if those great numbers had been reported much earlier instead of all the other nonsense. Just saying.

The numbers were reported over and over in the media and on social media R8. Everybody preferred to believe what Trump was saying instead and the Dems couldn't get any cut through on the facts.

by Anonymousreply 56January 6, 2025 4:46 AM

And everyone knows deep down that this has been a thriving, really once in a lifetime economy. Things have been going great. We are on a trajectory economically that we haven’t been on since probably the 50s and 60s. But that’s all out the window.

by Anonymousreply 57January 6, 2025 4:47 AM

Please universe, you know what to do. This isn't funny anymore.l

by Anonymousreply 58January 6, 2025 4:54 AM

Nothing's gonna happen and it's already too late...

by Anonymousreply 59January 6, 2025 5:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 60January 6, 2025 5:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 61January 6, 2025 5:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 62January 6, 2025 6:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 63January 6, 2025 6:49 AM

Reagan has been dead 20 years ago and his time in office is still lied about.

by Anonymousreply 64January 6, 2025 7:24 AM

I'm here to tell ya, even the Americans [bold]with[/bold] an education don't have an education.

by Anonymousreply 66January 6, 2025 11:03 AM

R6 are you sure?

A US pol taking credit for something they did not control is kind of unheard of in American politics. Usually Dems and GOP own and take responsibility for all the bad stuff and give the other admin credit for the good stuff that happened under their watch..

by Anonymousreply 67January 6, 2025 11:12 AM

R55 DL has been saying that the US has been a disaster for years. Starting with Reagan who was busy fisting everyone in the baths and was spreading HIV not wearing a condom and then refusing treatment for the infected even though there was not an effective treatment at the time,

The US is a disaster and of course it’s all someone else’s fault.

by Anonymousreply 68January 6, 2025 11:20 AM

In my lifetime, with the exception of Carter, the economy has done much better under Democratic presidents and much worse under Republican presidents. It is a point of fact, not opinion, not feeling, fact.

However, if you polled Americans; red, blue, and purple, the majority will tell you that Republican presidents are better on the economy. This isn’t grounded in fact, it’s based on feeling. Conservatism feels like it should be better for the economy. Conservatism feels like it should spend less money. Ignore the reality that it never is and it never does. Feelings are what matter. You could buy every billboard in this country and paste this fact in big, black, bold letters and it still wouldn’t help, because feelings trump facts in this world.

The pendulum will swing back to a democratic president, at least if history is any guide. The problem in this new world is that we have elected a president who is not a conservative, he is a populist with dictatorial ideas and god help us if he gets his way. If he stops the pendulum, we might not ever have a chance to see it swing any other way than down.

It shouldn’t be surprising, honestly. Looking at history and the democratic states, as they were, post Egyptian bondage Israel, early Greece and pre-Empire Rome, and the German tribes before they took over Western Europe, they all went from an idea of government based on the consent of at least some group of citizens, to the idea of a king or a strongman. We are the same humans, with the same impulses. Once we have a form of self determination and things get good, we become fearful it will end and call for a strong man to make sure it doesn’t.

I’ve never prayed for a king like the Israelites when they got Saul, but good lord, does our first ruler have to be someone so goddamned stupid!!

by Anonymousreply 69January 6, 2025 11:20 AM

Maybe it’s not totally always about the economy?

by Anonymousreply 70January 6, 2025 11:30 AM

R70 It’s not. It has always been a combo of the economy, racism, misogyny, and homophobia tied to the patriarchy. Groan all you want, but that is fact.

Whites in this country are scared shitless about losing their majority, when in fact they will still have a plurality for a long, long time.

Take immigration, it was Reagan and HW Bush who granted amnesty and the southern states were flooded with Mexicans within a few years. Some TX cities, fairly big ones, saw their schools go from 70% White to 70% Hispanic within 5 years. Republicans and their donors at Big Corps wanted this and so it was. When they realized the children of those Hispanics were voting Blue, unlike the Cubans, they freaked out, and made immigration, which they conveniently never solve and never want to solve, the boogeyman. Now, we must go through a painful, expensive, shameful, nightmarish purge to expel them.

Conservatives are a GD scourge on the world.

by Anonymousreply 71January 6, 2025 3:46 PM

R71 leaves out crime, the border, federal prisoners getting tax payer paid for sex changes, men in women’s sports , etc despite the fact that these issues also helped to pave the way for trumps win.

What is , based on data and surveys, one of the most popular national issues today across all political lines—-marriage equality.

by Anonymousreply 72January 6, 2025 4:10 PM

R72 crime is at a 50 year low. All those other issues are such bullshit and it happened under Trump. That’s the kind of bullshit that people vote for then they’re gonna absolutely get the shit show they deserve when it all crashes down because of some fake men playing women’s sports bullshit. They’re coming for marriage equality. It’s not as popular as you think, and maga will make it very unpopular.

by Anonymousreply 73January 6, 2025 6:00 PM

R73 those who told us that Biden would win, then Harris would win, and that Trump would end up defeated, unpopular, and in prison, tell us what will happen in the future once again.

by Anonymousreply 74January 6, 2025 6:03 PM

LoL, you aren't fooling anybody, r72.

by Anonymousreply 75January 6, 2025 6:04 PM
Trump Sees the U.S. as a ‘Disaster.’ The Numbers Tell a Different Story.

Which makes it sooooooo easy for him to claim he made America great again.

by Anonymousreply 76January 6, 2025 6:06 PM

The only person that has run for president recently and said they supported everything that the previous president had done is Harris. I’d not change a thing.

In one way or another they are usually claiming they want to make America better than those who came before .

by Anonymousreply 77January 6, 2025 6:12 PM

How disappointed will DL be when they find out the Admin does not make one tiny move against marriage equality?

by Anonymousreply 78January 6, 2025 6:15 PM

No matter how dumb or low IQ or culty they may be, when Trump is on the ballot, they vote. He lies to them, they vote. He breaks his promises to them, they vote. He tells them to drink bleach, they vote. Meanwhile, we have 8 million Biden voters who stayed at home. We have some stupid people on our side, too.

by Anonymousreply 79January 6, 2025 6:19 PM

Paid, not payed.

by Anonymousreply 80January 6, 2025 6:23 PM

“ we have some stupid people on our side”

I keep thinking about the Boris Hunters on DL that called everyone a Boris or MAGA when the commie Nazis claimed the election would be close. Or worse that Trump was leading in the polls.

Some who posted less than 100% support for Harris were even told to go vote for trump because “ we” did not need or want their vote.

We are over run with stupid, MAGA has nothing on our progressives

by Anonymousreply 81January 6, 2025 6:26 PM

R81 No, many were Boris’s.

by Anonymousreply 82January 6, 2025 6:42 PM

Trump is a loathsome liar and Biden did the best he could (except for not firing Garland pronto).

But you people are nuts who think the U.S. isn't a disaster. The right has been systematically dismantling the middle class and removing protections for the poor since Nixon. Things are bad for almost everyone but the wealthy and the office class. Now they are coming in earnest for the office class, too. When you get permanently downsized will you then understand what everyone else is enduring?

You can sit here and call MAGA names, but we're as much to blame. Did any of us call our politicians to task when they acted as corporate handmaidens (NAFTA, bank bailouts, etc., etc.) and abandoned the working class? No, myself included. Just because they are marginally better than the horror show of the GOP is no excuse. Now, we are effectively owned by the oligarchs. But, yeah, things are great.

by Anonymousreply 83January 6, 2025 7:27 PM

Well, maggots vote every single time to cut their paychecks, send their jobs overseas, pollute the air and water, lose healthcare and now cut their SSDI.

There’s no amount of reasoning to be done with fools who vote for their own demise because of some dumb meme they saw on the internet.

by Anonymousreply 84January 6, 2025 7:30 PM

Of course he sees it as a disaster. He probably thought that instantly when he lost the last election. That’s how megalomaniacs work.

by Anonymousreply 85January 6, 2025 7:52 PM

Why would they care R84? They don't have much to lose. Have any of you posting on here ever been outside your suburb? Ever gone to rural America or even to the side of town that doesn't have grocery stores? Ever seen how most people live. Things are a horror show out there on so many levels. We haven't raised the minimum wage in years. Housing costs are skyrocketing, along with homelessness. Education and health are in shambles - literally, if you know anyone in those spheres you would know things are dire. This is how most of the county lives. But, you know, the stock market is artificially inflated because companies have been buying back their stick for several years, so it's all cool.

by Anonymousreply 86January 6, 2025 9:05 PM

Housing costs are an expression of the difference in power between the have and have nots. The insane numbers are a reflection of the fantasy the haves think they deserve for their old shack which they see as a palace. Banksters are fully on board and inflate every chance they get. Yes it is a disaster and it's going to get a lot worse.

by Anonymousreply 87January 6, 2025 10:15 PM

R83 our side is marginally better? No, our side is way better. It defies logic that people make the point that you made with a straight face. If we had just kept Democrats in office and kept Republicans out, we would be so much better off. It’s not even close. The Democrats would’ve never dismantled the middle and all the other horror show things Republicans did since Nixon. NAFTA was thought to be a good thing at first and of course it depends on who’s in the executive branch to manage it. The bank bailouts- we all would’ve been fucked If we didn’t bail out the banks unfortunately.

R86 they did it to themselves and they keep doing it to themselves. What idiots keep voting for the same thing over and over again and nothing changes. If they would kick Republicans out of office, I guarantee you their station in life would change. But no, they keep conservatives in power for social and cultural issues. They would rather live in hell than to give anything to “them”.

What’s a real kicker is Biden actually was delivering for everyone. He shifted over $4 trillion to the bottom 90% and was building the economy from the ground and the middle up instead of from the top down. There was real progress and it appeared we were going to have an economy that actually resembled the thorough, deep economic gains we had in the 50s and 60s. What does he get in return? He’s hated.

No side is perfect but the blame is far from even. I’d say the blame is about 75% on Republicans.

R86, those rural people VOTE for that shit!

I grew up in a conservative, rural county. They’ve been voting for this stupid shit for the last four decades!

Yes, the minimum wage is shit, jobs in those places are scarce and hard to keep. But they VOTE FOR IT!

Year after year, they vote to keep the minimum wage at a pittance, cut healthcare, close their local hospital, and stop businesses from moving into their area.

They vote to keep themselves in fucking poverty. I have no pity for those idiots. I still remember the massive fight when an auto supplier wanted to open a MANUFACTURING SITE in the county seat.

This place was going to bring in hundreds of GOOD PAYING, UNION JOBS and the dumb cunts voted against it!

They didn’t want the traffic from the big trucks, the new people moving into the area to start the place up or the cost of local housing to rise. Of all the dumb assed, short sighted shit, that had to take the cake.

They didn’t care that it would bring jobs, money and new taxes to the area. Or that any one moving in would spend money in that small town, thus supporting many of their OWN small gas stations, stores, repair shops, and farms.

Just fucking short sighted, stuck in the 1800s, refusing to vote for something to improve their miserable lives.

by Anonymousreply 94January 7, 2025 1:14 AM

I never said both sides are the same. I said we are as much to blame for the country being a disaster. We let the Democratic Party slide too far to the right and become beholden to corporate interests instead of workers.

NAFTA was obviously corporate welfare to anyone with two brain cells and as laughable as trickledown economics. The bank "bailouts" were an obscene cash grab from the financial industry and a test to see how far they could push the screws into the public. Guess what? We failed. We should have rioted as they do in France.

Biden is so great? Why the fuck didn't he fire Garland and get someone who would prosecute Trump for treason? Why did he select him to begin with? It is indefensible. Gravely so.

Stop defending these assholes. They are public servants whose feet should be held to the fire at all times. Our lazy asses let them sell us to the highest bidder and you all are quibbling about the deplorables.

by Anonymousreply 95January 7, 2025 4:30 AM

Democrats didn’t slide right. Voters pushed them more right. They encouraged it because, as we all see, voters think conservatism is better for the economy. It’s not. They think rewarding billionaires and big business is better for the economy. Now, conservatives run almost all media and Democrats have huge headwinds to land any counter message.

by Anonymousreply 96January 7, 2025 4:37 AM
Democrats didn’t slide right. Voters pushed them more right.

by Anonymousreply 98January 7, 2025 4:51 AM

Democrats, unlike Republicans, have an increasingly unreliable base, so they must try to attract more independents and moderate Republicans. Therefore, the party has shifted more to the right.

What progressives and some liberals don't seem to understand is that if you want a more progressive party, you have to show up and vote in EVERY election, especially the way down-ballot races, in order to build a farm team. If you're only voting every 4 years and sitting out the state legislative races, local school boards, and dog catchers, you're not helping yourselves.

The President is not a King; change begins way down the ballot. If voters are unhappy with the Democratic Party, they only have to look in the mirror at themselves as the cause. You think Biden and Pelosi are too old? Why aren't you building up the next generation?

People want Genie-blink changes, that's not how any of this works.

by Anonymousreply 99January 7, 2025 4:59 AM

R91 many Dems think this election was just stolen. I don’t believe in that I think we were just beat because the Dems were not popular, but if it was stolen Dems are weak punks for not doing something to “stop the steal”

The election was fair or it was stolen. What you do after is what counts,

by Anonymousreply 100January 7, 2025 9:54 AM

R72 ...and NONE of that is going to change under Trump.

by Anonymousreply 101January 7, 2025 12:02 PM

Dems are unpopular? Why did they gain a seat in the House, and win many statewide races when Trump won the top(unheard of)?

Republicans get trounced in 2020, yet didn’t change a damn thing. In fact, they doubled down because they know their voters, by and large, vote in the off every cycles.

by Anonymousreply 102January 7, 2025 12:48 PM

R102 another bright insider with the message the Dems should not change a thing. After all if the GOP did not change after being beaten that means the Dems will do the same. Because we all know history always repeats itself.

by Anonymousreply 104January 7, 2025 1:01 PM

Dems went right? Biden admin, from AOC and Bernie’s own mouth, was the most progressive since FDR and JFK/LBJ. But voters went with “feelings” not substance.

by Anonymousreply 105January 7, 2025 1:05 PM

11% of the country considers themselves progressives. 19% consider themselves far right. The Dems you say went more progressive and with the 11% and are now trying to figure out why they lost?

by Anonymousreply 106January 7, 2025 1:09 PM

You aren't asking the right question

by Anonymousreply 107January 7, 2025 1:11 PM

Exactly. Most of hte public are morons misled by decades of false cold war propaganda. They actually do want government health care, make it harder to fire people, and all the rest of "social democracy"

by Anonymousreply 108January 7, 2025 1:21 PM

R106 They lost due to propaganda. If you poll voters on INDIVIDUAL issues, they fall left on almost everyone. But it feels good to say you're conservative, or far right. They think it sounds tough. They're about to see how "tough" they really are.

Voters would become slaves than admit they're economic liberals. Those racist southern Democrats of the 40-70s were economic liberals, but cultural conservatives. They changed when culture issues started becoming more important to them than their standard of living.

by Anonymousreply 109January 7, 2025 3:56 PM

Trump doesn’t see the U.S. as a disaster.

He SAYS the U.S. is a disaster. Can’t we stop forgetting that Trump has a transactional relationship with the truth?

by Anonymousreply 110January 7, 2025 4:08 PM

Progressives explaining once again why the Dems lost.

What would the average DL progressive give up in a compromise with conservative voters to win the next election. Not what you will insist they give up. What are you willing to give up on?

Abortion? Age verification of porn? Trans support? It’s got to be something you don’t want to give up on.

Abortion vs Age verification of porn I realize is like shooting fish in a barrel on DL.

by Anonymousreply 111January 7, 2025 4:10 PM

The truth

My grandfather was eaten by cannibals during WW2 on a remote pacific island.

by Anonymousreply 112January 7, 2025 4:12 PM

Not really true it was my uncle who was eaten.

by Anonymousreply 113January 7, 2025 4:13 PM

Democrats have won almost every election since 2016, except this last won, because Trump was on the ticket. He's the only Republican who can turn out voters. He's not going to be on the ticket anymore, which is going to be a major problem for Republicans going forward. Democrats will win back the House in 2026 making Trump powerless.

by Anonymousreply 114January 7, 2025 4:17 PM

Democrats have won the popular vote in 7 out of the last 9 elections, yet Boris wants us to compromise with conservatives. News flash: compromising isn't going to solve shit. Democrats will be accused of going right. If they don't, they'll be accused of being too left. They can't win for losing. Conservatives never compromise. They double down bc the media and billionaires have their back. Break up the media monopolies, make news not for profit, get $ out of politics and watch Republicans lose every election, or move to the center.

Misdirection - we wil make Canada the 51st state. media spends weeks on it meanwhile he pushes through 1000 maga bills gutting our freedoms and no one reports on it. Trump is president because of the media. ABC, CBS, NBC should have told the truth but they were too scared of him. Now look what twe have a Fucking STI addled idiot running the country with Turmp.

by Anonymousreply 141January 7, 2025 6:31 PM

R141 I often pass a giant Trump sign, one of the few in my very blue area,

‘“ I am voting for the felon”

In your opinion who did not understand that trump was a draft dodging pussy grabbing criminal that lies? Besides everyone had 4 years to watch him as potus,

Everyone knew what trump is about. Your problem is that they just did not care because they hated the Harris waltz team.

Who knows what would have happened if we had a Bill C or a B Obama running?

Would we be giving two Senators and a congressional seat to Greenland? They only have 56,000 people. And is Canada supposed to be a single state? This is sounding a lot like the wall that didn’t get built.

by Anonymousreply 146January 7, 2025 7:30 PM

Canada has 41 million people, and California has 38 million, so similarities exist. Would Canada be a red state or a blue state?

by Anonymousreply 147January 7, 2025 7:35 PM

Yeah, DC has 680,999 with no representation and Wyoming and Vermont have full representation with fewer people, Canadians are not going to go for the same number of Senators as West Virginia.

by Anonymousreply 148January 7, 2025 7:45 PM

We could use Greenland like the English used Australia. Put the undesirables to work building shit. Or maybe for building for profit prisons and infectious disease camps.

A boon in construction and lots of new flags being made

Speaking of disaster, a new book by Politico reporter Alex Isenstadt shines new light into the incestuous relationship between Trump and Fox News.

Isenstadt alleges that someone from inside the network gave Trump's team the question Fox anchors asked in an Iowa town hall.

He also says that Trump "seriously considered" tapping Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo as his running mate, before being talked out of it by his team.

by Anonymousreply 154January 8, 2025 4:59 PM

The sucky part is most people don't understand how things work with the economy and government. The economy is like turning an aircraft carrier. It takes time and planning to turn it. All the efforts Biden made over the last four years will take effect during Trump's first two years. All of the benefits Trump will take credit for. The same is true of what Trump did to the economy. The gas and food prices under Biden were a direct result of Trump's economy. The difference is that Biden didn't blame Trump every two seconds. He just put in the work to fix it. Trump will be dismantling that over the next four years, a lot of it in the first day.

Of course Dump will immediately take credit for the economic recovery that Biden created. He'll coast on that for a while until he royally fucks it up. Just like he did the first time, coasting along on Obama's economic recovery from the Great Recession (caused by the previous Republican, George W. Bush).

The thing is, the American public has become so dumbed down, they'll just believe the loudest voice which is Dump, Fox, and the reich wing propagandists. They'll think the next recession will have been caused by Biden/Democrats because that's what they're told.

A truly depressing time.

by Anonymousreply 157January 8, 2025 5:24 PM

Trump's whole schtick is that everything is just terrible. He will then call the current booming economy his own and claim he made American Great Again

by Anonymousreply 158January 8, 2025 7:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 159January 8, 2025 7:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 160January 8, 2025 8:44 PM
