Beautiful speech.
Nicole Kidman Bursts Into Tears Dedicating PSIFF Award to Late Mom
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 6, 2025 3:38 PM |
Mom I finally did a movie about a 50+ woman having sex with a teenaged boy.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 5, 2025 9:04 PM |
She's a disaster.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 5, 2025 9:05 PM |
Watch out if she wins the Globe. A good speech there has done wonders in the past. Globes are where people audition to win Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 5, 2025 9:07 PM |
Jamie Lee, always right there like a bad smell.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 5, 2025 9:36 PM |
R4 I was just gonna say, instead of letting Nicole have her moment, Jamie Lee just had to walk up and make it about her, too.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 5, 2025 9:46 PM |
She just teared up a little. She didn't "burst" into tears. I was expecting full-on bawling.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 5, 2025 9:48 PM |
These white women need to learn how to control themselves! Where is the dignity, the grace?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 5, 2025 9:55 PM |
The DL is REALLY hard on Nicole. Despite the pumped up face she seems like a kind, gracious lady and she has some incredible performances under her belt. Did we decide to hate her when she took on Grace and Lucy? Missteps to be sure, but she was probably convinced she could pull it off by sycophantic agents and managers.
I felt for her watching this. I really miss my parents as well.

A crying drunk!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 5, 2025 10:05 PM |
She can’t move her face
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 5, 2025 10:37 PM |
If recent threads are any indication, DL worships Demi and loathes Nicole. Let’s be real, both have carved their faces up like jack-o-lanterns and engaged in cringe romances. But Nicole’s filmography blows Demi’s out of the water. So is it just classic underdog syndrome? Or is DL still clutching its pearls over Being the Ricardos?

PSIFF??

Demi is more of a star, and she's infinitely more likable. And her career was in the shitter for many years, but now she's making a serious comeback.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 5, 2025 11:52 PM |
Demi Moore is more of a star than Nicole Kidman? She was an it girl for five years in the 90s, but Nicole is much more of an enduring icon.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 5, 2025 11:54 PM |
Demi’s not a foreigner, so there’s that.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 5, 2025 11:55 PM |
[quote]Demi’s not a foreigner, so there’s that.
Nicole was born in Hawaii, so she has US citizenship by birthright...in addition to Australian.

[quote]Demi Moore is more of a star than Nicole Kidman? She was an it girl for five years in the 90s,
She was the highest paid actress in Hollywood during that period. She was more than an "it" girl.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 6, 2025 12:00 AM |
We're using the term "actress" loosely, right?
Nicole has an oscar and has been nominated multiple times.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 6, 2025 12:01 AM |
On her best day Demi isn’t half as good as Nicole on her worst day. An insulting comparison, tbh. And I’m not even a rabid Nicole Kidman fan.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 6, 2025 12:04 AM |
Demi could do Eyes Wide Shut, but Nicole couldn’t do Striptease.

[quote]Watch out if she wins the Globe. A good speech there has done wonders in the past.
For a movie about a sadomasochistic relationship between an elite white woman and her hot studly intern? In DLer dreams, maybe, but not the Academy's. (And the Globes haven't been a real indicator of Oscar gold for a while now.)
[quote]Demi is more of a star, and she's infinitely more likable.
Pretty much everyone in Hollywood disagrees, considering Nicole is typically working on a half-dozen projects all at once, whereas "The Substance" was Demi's first real film role since, what, she played the villain in the second "Charlie's Angels" movie? I just finished watching Nicole on "Lioness"; I'm seeing "Babygirl" this week; also saw her in last year's "Expats" & "The Perfect Couple"; and S2 of "Nine Perfect Strangers" is coming in March, plus S3 of "Big Little Lies" is in development.
You mean to remember "hated on DL" is rarely the same as real life. Reese Witherspoon is similarly (and irrationally) despised on here, and she's one of the most-liked people in showbiz. But really, if Demi is so adored, why doesn't she work more? As a reminder, she's still one of the wealthiest women in Hollywood, aside from the likes of Ellen who landed $30 mil-a-year talk show gigs: she got $200M in her divorce from Bruce Willis, and has invested it wisely. (IIRC she made $75 million selling her penthouse at one of Central Park West's better buildings - the Beresford, maybe?) But she's had little interest in working, period, except very selectively, a privilege unique to wealthy ex-wifes.
Finally, this isn't even vaguely close if measured by their respective talents. Nicole's not Meryl, but Demi has very little range, which is why her attempts at shit like "G.I. Jane" crashed & burned for audiences used to her in "Ghost" and whatnot.

[quote]Demi could do Eyes Wide Shut
No. Just no.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 6, 2025 12:10 AM |
[quote] Jamie Lee, always right there like a bad smell.
WTF?!? I thought that was an elderly Indian woman.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 6, 2025 12:11 AM |
Demi could do The Hours, but Nicole couldn’t do Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 6, 2025 12:15 AM |
[quote]Reese Witherspoon is similarly (and irrationally) despised on here,
Not irrationally. She's a phony and a massive bitch (as demonstrated by her police encounter).
She's a poor man's Alicia Silverstone and Alicia Goranson. I haven't seen a single role of hers where I thought the two of them couldn't have done it better.
Please don't bring up that cooze in this thread again.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 6, 2025 12:21 AM |
Nicole has the warmth of a Slurpee machine without the joy.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 6, 2025 12:35 AM |
I was ready to add snark, but I found her speech heartfelt and lovely.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 6, 2025 12:59 AM |
[quote](IIRC she made $75 million selling her penthouse at one of Central Park West's better buildings - the Beresford, maybe?)
Even better, it was at the San Remo.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 6, 2025 1:11 AM |
I'll beg to differ with quite a few people in this thread, but I think that here, as she was crying, she looked the best she has in almost two decades and you saw the woman and her pain more than the monomaniac ageless freak she's adamant to embody for the rest of the world along with the glitters of her perfect little life. I didn't know (or more likely I kind of forgot over the decades) that there was a side of her that could be quite endearing.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 6, 2025 1:13 AM |
Nicole Kidman appears in many films, almost none of which I ever care to see.
Demi Moore makes far fewer films, many of which I have seen and enjoyed.

R17 Nicole on accepting the 2024 AFI Lifetime Achievement award: "I was born in Hawaii, I've worked all over the world but I'm an Aussie girl".
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 6, 2025 1:24 AM |
R8, we are tough on this bitch because she has baldly lied for years about her many surgical modifications and enhancements, playing all of us for morons by insisting, through one tight smile after the next, that she looks as she does because of....sunscreen.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 6, 2025 1:29 AM |
Nicole is going to win the Globe. I’m manifesting it.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 6, 2025 2:30 AM |
R34 = Nicole.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 6, 2025 2:33 AM |
I haven't enjoyed Nicole in the films I've seen her in (Days of Thunder and Practical Magic) but I really liked her performances in Nine Perfect Strangers and The Perfect Couple. She only attracts snark from me because I love to indulge in pointless bitchery. As an Aussie, I'm sort of weirdly proud of her.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 6, 2025 2:56 AM |
I’m begging for this more than Jamie Lee Curtis. If that’s possible.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 6, 2025 4:36 AM |
Can you use a dead mom for an award? Asking for a friend.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 6, 2025 4:39 AM |
“Let the dipshits complain. I emoted on demand with imagery of my dead mom. I didn’t even have to conjure a tortured puppy! “
“And my tear ducts fucking worked! Better than 2004, 20011, or 2016 - they worked!”
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 6, 2025 4:45 AM |
Lock up the Kidman crime family.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 6, 2025 5:27 AM |
R26, she was note-perfect in American Psycho and brought a sense of both pointed malaise and twisted innocence to it that Silverstone and Goranson could not.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 6, 2025 5:30 AM |
Witherspoon was also superb in Election. Silverstone could never.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 6, 2025 5:32 AM |
Holywoodis a money making machine and thinks that big tits and plastic surgery faces is what people prefer to look at. They're stupid old fat fucks who can only get it up by demeaning women. Is it worth it Miss Thang? To be humiliated and who knows what else in order to make good money and be famous. Show some spine, girls.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 6, 2025 6:54 AM |
Does Kidman flash nip, or show beaver in Babygirl? Demi got her botched funbags out for The Substance, so that’s a point in her favor.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 6, 2025 7:11 AM |
I see she's still glossing over her fathers' child rape.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 6, 2025 9:23 AM |
For me, Kidman is a good actress but never interesting or exciting. I never want to see a movie because she's in it.
Considering that most have been flops, no one else wants to see her either.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 6, 2025 2:19 PM |
R46 She's had some hits and misses, but did you ever see her in "To Die For?"
She was amazing in it. Probably her best role ever.
