Let's discuss David Lynch's "Wild at Heart" (1990)

As someone who has seen most of the director's films, this was one that I was embarrassed to have never watched. I finally did, and I loved every second of it. Diane Ladd is a scene stealer as the vindictive Southern mama, and Nicolas Cage's body never looked hotter. Were/are you a fan?

I really don’t like his stories. I guess I’m a philistine but I find them stagey, self important, and nonsensical.

When he’s telling someone else’s story, his movies are much better. I’ll watch “The Straight Stiry” over the ridiculously hyped “ Mulholland Drive” any day.

Ugh. Poor Laura Dern still has a concussion from getting her head banged against the wall while Nic Cage banged her senseless in every other scene of that movie. The close up of the vomit on the floor with the flies was so, uh, decorative. I was turned off by that movie which seemed to exist to gross out the audience, and if he hadn't redeemed himself with a couple others I never would have watched another Lynch film.

I’m a big Lynch fan and this might be my favorite of his. He and Nic Cage feel like a match made in heaven. Or hell. I wonder why they didn’t collaborate again after this.

I was extremely stoned in college the first time I watched this, and I still remember how fucking weird and wild everything about Diane Ladd came across while I was under the influence. All that red! And those nails!

Was this his Wizard of Oz take off? I was enchanted.

At Lynch’s request, Laura Dern, a nonsmoker, famously passed out after trying to take a deep inhale from four lit cigarettes on the set of this movie.

It's my favorite David Lynch movie. It's funny, weird and everyone is perfect in it.

I thought it was fantastically over the top.
