Demi Moore
Love it all. Even the -expert- surgery, the vibe, The Substance.. And she stands by her ex husband with dementia-
I think that Demi is actually a cool chick. Genuine.I think if someone had the balls to say "Let's talk about all of your plastic surgery? Most of it is awesome- what the fuck- tell us!" she might answer...
So happy for her this year-
She looks SO FUCKING GOOD to me-- don't care about her -numerous- surgeries. She is 62 and just looks otherworldly good to me.
And her performance in GI Jane, was really, really good. Long forgotten. I was around 22? And saw it in the theater and I loved it.

Loved her since General Hospital. She's a very interesting actress. Good or bad, she's never boring. We had a slight breakup over what she did to The Scarlett Letter, but we've since made up.

I like her too and think she looks beautiful. I couldn’t stand her in the 90’s and thought she was a wooden actress, but she’s grown on me since splitting from Bruce Willis. She became more beautiful from 40 on.

R3- YES!! I thought the same thing until GI Jane... And I saw the potential as a young kid when I saw Mortal Thoughts too....
I think I like her because she proves that you can come into your own, at ANY age.
She is so honest about the pressure of physical beauty, and never touches on her own "work'- I find that very interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 5, 2025 2:02 AM

R3 and OP, how funny! That's exactly how I felt. Sure, she was in some huge films in her heyday, but she was never Julia or Sandra or Meg or Sharon or Jessica or Michelle. She was outshined by just about all her peers. She was just in the right place at the right time for me.
But now I love her. She's kooky, totally unique and has became an interesting actress to boot. And yes, her loyalty to Bruce is very, very endearing and touching.

R7-- Its all there- but forgotten- Mortal Thoughts, GI JANE, and now- The Substance.
It's her clear character, hotness, and attitude that now inspires me.
Don't give a fuck that the hotness is surgery and genes, Give me their name bitch, so I can get scheduled.
Just a COOL AF chick

I liked her in the BRATS doc as well. She seemed to have a good sense of self reflection. Was very open about having a sober coach while shooting St Elmo's Fire when she was dealing with addiction. You will never see Julia Roberts address her reported drug problems as an ingenue even if they were just rumors. In fact you are not even allowed to ask her about them.

Take a look at her filmography. She's just as popular as any of those mentioned above. At one time she was the highest paid actress in history. Read the list and it will all come back to you. Plus I believe her work will stand the test of time.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 11 | January 5, 2025 2:52 AM

She does have a very good filmography. The issue with her became that she always needed a strong equally or more famous male costar or ensemble to sell tickets. She could not carry a movie all on her own. When she went that route is when her career began to dwindle. She could have modest hits but never blockbusters on her own. She could have sustained longer without them trying to make her a "star" instead of a recognizable actress you enjoyed watching.

r9 I'm glad you mentioned the BRATS doc because that's when I came around on her myself - she was extremely patient with Andrew McCarthy's bullshit and came off as incredibly thoughtful and kind. I hated that movie because it felt like a pathetic ego trip for AM but she came out of it smelling like roses. And then The Substance came along and she really is incredible in it, just the perfect fit of actress and role, a dream pairing, and now I love her like I never did during her heyday.

Loved her in ALN too. But she seemed to refuse to do the types of roles the frauen liked. Granted she wasn't really suited for them but she never made any real attempt. She preferred a lot more sexually charged roles save Ghost and A Few Good Men which she had more of a supporting role.

I would be curious to know what her politics are these days. She and Bruce were Republicans during their marriage but I always wondered if she was just allowing him to influence her opinions (like some wives do) or if that was her own independent view. But then, I always wondered if Bruce had been influenced from spending too much time with Sly and Arnold, so who knows.

Honestly, I think Demi has a chance to win the Oscar.
Mikey Madison and Karla Sofia Gascon are too unknown to win and "the nomination is sufficient" will be the rationale for not giving the award to them.
Cynthia isn't well liked. And, the movie is too pop corn and old news at this point.
Honestly, I doubt Pam Anderson gets an Oscar nomination. That's too left field for Oscar. I think the 5th spot will either be Nicole Kidman or Angelina Jolie. Both have already won and it's neither has the right kind of momentum for a win.
Demi winning would make for a good story.

I think she'll get nominated, but won't win, because historically horror does not win, so even getting nominated is a feat. Misery, Silence of the Lambs, Rosemary's Baby, and Black Swan were all "psychological thrillers". Shape Of Water was fantasy, Alien was Sci-fi. Get Out (with a lot of resistance from the Academy) and Exorcist were the exceptions. Other horror movies that won won in the makeup/art direction/costumes categories.
