I often question the net benefit that technological advancement has brought to society, but this could be an amazing development.
I teach elementary school and have kids with insulin pumps and monitors that feed data into their iPhones. It is fucking amazing. I just have to listen to the monitors to know if the kid is low and needs a juice. We seldom have to do blood draws and no more shots. It’s fucking amazing.
To think that a lab-produced spine might mean someone could get the chance to walk again - or even just breathe independently without worry - seems miraculous.

I remember them doing this thirty years ago on an episode of “Star Trek: the Next Generation”. Bravo!

They're also perfecting transplant organs grown inside genetically modified pigs. It's nice to have a reminder that the world isn't going completely downhill.

Is it weird that my first thought was "did they grow it on the back of a mouse?"

by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 5, 2025 1:55 PM |
Don 't ask.

Quads and paras will need more than just a spine. Isn’t there a neurological component?

Spinal Tap, of course.
