Why did Kathy Griffin hate Ryan Seacrest so much?

She’s expressing how the general public feels.

“I don’t know where her hands have been. She won’t tell us, she just keeps working and ignoring us like it’ll work…..”

Because Ryan is a throwback to the one of celebrity who was always in his stage persona. He never lets the facade drop or gets real in a a meaningful way. It’s always that “camera’s on” personality, voice, and demeanor. Kathy’s whole brand was built around killing those sacred cows.

Seacrest was an anxious mess before they went on stage fearing that she would make him the butt of a joke. After Griffin joked that someone wanted her to take her top off, Seacrest went off script and ripped open her rented $4,000 Badgley Mischka top. She was mortified and furious but composed enough to say, “You’ll have to excuse my friend Ryan, That’s the first time he ever touched a woman”.

This is an article about the AMA incident. Apparently Kathy was furious, proclaiming backstage that she’d been assaulted and suggesting she was going to file charges. If this happened today public sentiment would probably be on her side.

She wrote a book about her celebrity encounters, r4 r5. IIRC she only trashed Anna Kendrick and Ashton Kutcher.

She also said Jon Hamm was a really nasty drunk.

And you'll notice her first instinct was to go for the "gay" joke. Just like when the photo shoot controversy happened, and she went after Ellen, Andy and Anderson first. Miss self-proclaimed "Queen of the gays". And I'm not defending Seacrest, but she could have handed him his ass in many other ways.

Gays are really going to have explain how she became an icon to the community, because she showed her true colors many times back in the day. Just ask Clay Aiken.

Wouldn't take long for most of Hollywood to take 2 steps back from her. And, worst of all, she gets SO offended and hurt if anyone says anything about HER. That's the hypocritical part.

Joan Rivers used to make fun of herself as much if not more than the celebrities she made fun of. Kathy never really did - and so it just comes off as unnecessarily mean and with a limited shelf-life. All shock types of celebrities have a short run.

But Seacrest deserves it - I just don't understand his popularity. There must be some study where middle America likes him, because I don't know anyone who is excited to see him on TV.

I agree. Kathy is the most thin skinned person I’ve ever seen other than maybe Donald Trump. I remember in season one of D-List she goes on and on to some stylist about how she’s not the typical beauty queen celebrity the stylist is used to working with. Finally the stylist is like “No, I get it. You’re not exactly Nicole Kidman.” Kathy then gets super offended even though she’s the one who started down that road and the stylist was just conveying that they understood what she meant.

Kathy made fun of women’s looks for decades then decided that she would ditch Fashion Police because it was too mean, fell to pieces when Jay Leno agreed with her that she wasn’t pretty, and then tried to come out as some uber feminist. Kathy is text book borderline personality disorder. In the end she got what she deserved like Roseanne.

No, she zeroed in on them because she's a narcissist who was infuriated when they didn't take her side when she was very obviously in the wrong. What did she think they were gonna say? "Yeah, it was hilarious when she was photographed with that severed Trump head. Good one, Kath!" Of course they distanced themselves like any sane and normal person would have.

She also seemed to only target celebrities of a certain stature. She never really went after any real upper level A-Listers that could really harm her opportunities. The highest she went was Zellweger which she lived to regret to a certain extent. Anything she said about really powerful celebrites was cheeky and seemingly almost complimentary. She's a coward at her core with no sense of humor about herself. She plays the unattractive, self deprecating "D-Lister" but ultimately doesn't want to be seen as one. Think Janeane Garafolo with a mean streak.
