Premonitions

Ever had an interesting one? A peek into the future of an event that hasn't happened yet? A lot of times we tend to dismiss them as being a "coincidence" and file them away as relatively meaningless. But are they? Or do they provide an insight to the capacity of the human mind beyond the limitations we've been traditionally taught to believe in. I'm fascinated by them.

[quote]Premonitions, which describe the ability to predict a future event, are actually a fairly common human experience. We are wired to want to be able to know what's going to happen, and sometimes our subconscious picks up on cues that something is likely to occur.

I knew Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go was going to play on the radio right before it started last night. Does that count?

by Anonymousreply 1January 4, 2025 2:27 AM

I always hated that song.

by Anonymousreply 2January 4, 2025 2:31 AM

Pre-pandemic, I went in to my guest bedroom to get something and I smelled the cologne of a relative who had stayed in the room a year prior for a short visit. The room had been cleaned many times since and accommodated other guests.

The next day I learned he had died.

My mother used to have them all the time. She believed them to be useless but was haunted by some of them. The last time was just before she went into the hospital for a rather minor operation. She was a very rational, rather stoic woman and at one point during our conversation she broke down and said "I'm going to die" (very unlike her) before immediately collecting herself and carrying on with our chat. A couple of days later she died on the table.

I had one really freaky one about 5 years ago. I was just milling around my house, and I imagined that my ex had a fire at his place. We are still on great terms, and I texted him to tell him about my weird 'vision' - and said something like 'not being weird, but I figured you should know because it was so strange and clear." That night in the middle of the night, the condo next to his caught on fire! He called me the next day jokingly (I think) asking if I'd started it!

by Anonymousreply 5January 4, 2025 2:42 AM

It was maybe a coincidence but very weird. I was at work in midtown Manhattan on a slow day when I became morbidly fascinated with YouTube videos of plane crashes on my computer. I watched about 15 of them and at one point turned around and looked out the window. I had a clear shot to the Hudson down to the river and suddenly I saw a plane flying very low as it passed between a couple of buildings just above the river. It was the USAir Jet that landed in the river with no fatalities. Amazing.

by Anonymousreply 6January 4, 2025 2:50 AM

I knew you were going to say that op.

by Anonymousreply 7January 4, 2025 2:51 AM

There was one day when I was a child that I just felt an unshakable sense of doom. I just felt "something bad is going to happen today" but I didn't know what it could be or who it would happen to. Then we got a phone call saying my older brother broke his collarbone during soccer practice and had to be taken to the hospital.

And there have been many times I'll find a song stuck in my head and then they play it on the radio right after, or I'll randomly think of a celebrity we haven't heard from in a while and then a couple days later I see a news article telling me they're dead. I scare myself with it sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 8January 4, 2025 3:21 AM

I worked in a company located in a high rise, and had to pick something up from an office located on another floor. The group formerly assigned to the space had relocated to another part of the building, with a new group yet to move in. While there, I had a strong feeling I would be coming back to work in that particular space. It was unsettling, and I felt a bit crazy.

Several months later, I was hired into a new role in another company in our organization. The team I joined had just moved into the space where I had the premonition, and my desk was right outside the office where I ran the errand.

It’s nothing dramatic, but the only time I’ve had a premonition that can’t be explained by total coincidence or subconsciously putting together available information.

by Anonymousreply 9January 4, 2025 3:26 AM

I had a strong one that Princess Diana was going to die. I was watching the news and there was a clip of her on and I turned to my late husband and told him that she wasn't going to be around much longer. Three days later she was dead.

by Anonymousreply 10January 4, 2025 3:31 AM

Premonitions, premonitions. These visions you have.

Careful you must be when sensing the future . The fear of loss is a path to the dark side.

Clairvoyance took a hit when nobody saw Princess Di’s death coming.

by Anonymousreply 16January 4, 2025 6:44 AM

My ex boyfriend had semi ghosted me. I hadn’t heard from him in four weeks . I called the hospital he went to. He had been there for four weeks — this was during Covid .

I was so hurt I didn’t want to call , but I did. He couldn’t talk and the nurse held the phone to his ear. I told him I loved him, that we’d see each other again . I’ll never forget the two “ sounds “ he made .

I called the next day and he was dead . Still freaks me out .

by Anonymousreply 17January 4, 2025 7:01 AM

[quote]Clairvoyance took a hit when nobody saw Princess Di’s death coming.

Diana had a psychic who told her she was going to die in a car crash. They were going to grease the brakes or something. She spoke about it to Andrew Morton. She thought Charles was behind it utilizing MI5 to carry it out. But it turned out to be an idiot driver Dodi's father hired.

I see a big mac. A klondike bar. There's something else too. I think it's a bag of hot cheetos. I'm opening it all up. I'm sitting in my car, and I'm opening them all up. I forgot to get napkins, but I don't stop.

by Anonymousreply 19January 4, 2025 1:27 PM

In 2021, I was taking a nap in my armchair one night when the words “Donald Rumsfeld” echoed loudly in my head. Enough that it woke me up.

The next day, he died. I was spooked.

R20, the next time that voice wakes you up I hope it's saying Donald Trump.

by Anonymousreply 22January 4, 2025 3:27 PM

I have had an ominous feeling for a few weeks that something catastrophic is coming soon, on the scale of 9/11 or bigger. Nuclear bomb? Uncontrolled anarchy in daily life? Vigilante squads taking law & order into their own hands? Complete financial collapse, worse than the Depression?

by Anonymousreply 23January 4, 2025 4:47 PM

So specific, R23. Thanks for narrowing it down for us.

by Anonymousreply 24January 4, 2025 7:25 PM

I had a premonition that Harris Waltz would win the White House and the Dems would sweep the House, Senate and at least 6 of 7 battle ground states.

I have been a little busy lately and have not followed up

How did I do?

And if we lost instead of win was the election at least close. That is what counts not winning but keeping the vote close.

I bet we won the popular vote once again as my premonition said we would ?

by Anonymousreply 25January 4, 2025 7:47 PM

R10 Are you the ghost of Prince Phillip?

by Anonymousreply 26January 4, 2025 7:54 PM

I sometimes dream events that happen a month or two later. The déjà vu feeling freaks me out.

by Anonymousreply 27January 4, 2025 8:00 PM

Sometimes I get a feeling like I better bring my phone because my car might break down. I’m usually right. More so in the past cuz I don’t do much now.

by Anonymousreply 28January 5, 2025 4:35 AM

I'm always going back inside to get my phone when I go out in the car. No phone booths anywhere. Even though I'm in the burbs I think of myself as living out on the plains and have an inordinate fear of breaking down alone at night.

by Anonymousreply 29January 5, 2025 9:44 AM

On September 10th 2001 I had a feeling that something really horrible was going to happen. I assumed it had to do with my life or my family so I was panicking making sure they were okay. I remember somebody was late and didn’t call and I really freaked out. We all ended up being fine.

I’ve had a few in my life. They’re usually when I’m still asleep or half asleep and a voice just tells me. They’re usually about insignificant things that apply to my life.

by Anonymousreply 30January 5, 2025 9:50 AM

I used to be a medium but I gained some weight.

by Anonymousreply 31January 5, 2025 4:39 PM

Once again I had a premonition that I needed to take not only my phone, but gloves to change a tire, and a rain coat as I headed out last week.

And just like always when I get a premonition I never needed my phone, the tires never went flat, and there was no rain at all.

It’s like I have a gift

by Anonymousreply 32January 5, 2025 4:45 PM

I knew a girl who had premonitions. But then she was always wrong.

by Anonymousreply 33January 5, 2025 4:45 PM

A famous actors son showed up for a new job and told a new co worker that he , the son, was going to die that day. The co worker told him that was just nerves.

By the end of the day he was dead

by Anonymousreply 34January 5, 2025 4:50 PM

I knew the second I heard the phone ring that my father was dead. He had not been ill, it was a freak accident in his own driveway. He was crushed by a driverless tow truck.

by Anonymousreply 35January 5, 2025 5:23 PM

I like blue. And I foresee your DEATH!

by Anonymousreply 36January 5, 2025 5:53 PM

That’s pretty rude to show up at a new job and tell someone they’ll be dead by the end of the day.

by Anonymousreply 37January 6, 2025 2:35 AM

R37 you would have been able to understand better if you knew what the job or assignment was, Not everyone has the type of job you do.
