He has done several commercials - easy money, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 3, 2025 11:40 PM |
In his recent memoir, Roberts says the "celebrity net worth" figures on the internet are, in his case at least, ridiculously high and out of date. He describes how much it costs just to stay in the business now, never mind earn a decent living. He admits he will take almost any job, for money and because he is a workaholic who likes having a full schedule. His second wife, who has been his manager for years, finds him all kinds of gigs and she probably got him the HVAC commercial.

I think Eric just works, works, works regardless. .. If you've ever looked at his filmography at IMDb, he's like the go-to actor for low-budget and/or no-budget indie flicks. Right now, his listing shows 89 projects in various stages of production. In 2024, he appeared in over 70 films that were released.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 3, 2025 11:49 PM |
How long before he goes full circle and ends up where he began - daytime television?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 3, 2025 11:49 PM |
Better than sitting on his ass, doing nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 3, 2025 11:50 PM |
I respect his hustle! He’s like a throw back to the English actors who worked constantly on all sorts of roles High brow, low brow. They see it as a job. Actors who like acting like to work! He's a good actor. I’m glad he outlasted his sister. He’s had memorable roles. He was excellent in Star 80. That role was award waorthy.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 3, 2025 11:57 PM |
r6 " I’m glad he outlasted his sister."
Um, what?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 4, 2025 12:02 AM |
R4 He already returned to daytime back in 2010 when "The Young & the Restless" hired him to play a flashy, high-powered, criminal defense attorney named "Vance Abrams." He was recurring for about a year. As I recall, viewers really liked him.

a gal's gotta eat.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 4, 2025 12:17 AM |
You do t see his sister much now. I remember her back in the 90’s being shoved down everyone’s throats. People got tired of her.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 4, 2025 12:42 AM |
She's got a Luca Guadagnino coming out next year from a highly regarded script that Brian Grazer grabbed and Leave the World Behind was one of Netflix's most streamed films last year. She does about a project a year. Real projects. Not grab bag parts because she actually doesn't need to work to eat like her brother. That said I assume his relation to her keeps people hiring him one way or the other.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 5, 2025 12:26 AM |
How much do you think made doing an HVAC commercial? 200k? Seems like pretty good money for something that probably took a Saturday afternoon to film.
You can't deny that her star has dimmed considerably, r11. I don't what qualifies as a "real" project but it's been a while since she was the leading actor in a giant hit.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 5, 2025 8:44 AM |
All this after they took his thumb?! They took his fucking thumb, Tommy!!!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 5, 2025 12:20 PM |
He's what they call a working actor.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 5, 2025 12:55 PM |
R6- Julia always seemed two bit- ish to me.
The only role I ever liked her in was Mystic Pizza (1988).
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 5, 2025 1:11 PM |
John Travolta did a Capital One commercial that is still airing.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 5, 2025 2:57 PM |
This is nothing new. Many top tier stars have done commercials for decades. It's just that until fairly recently they've only done them in foreign countries because they didn't want to seem desperate for money if Americans saw them. Japan was a hot spot for big American stars doing commercials. But things began to change in the US and more and more stars started raking in the big money doing spots on American TV.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 5, 2025 4:17 PM |
Jesus, i just looked at his imdb. I don't think the dude has ever taken a day off.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 5, 2025 4:57 PM |
He's a normal working guy. He gets up every day, goes to work, and comes home when he's finished. He just happens to go to a film set every day. Actors like him are the lifeblood of the movie industry.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 5, 2025 7:01 PM |
He was ridiculously hot back in the day @ 1980 or so.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 5, 2025 7:08 PM |
This was my favorite. And agreed, R21. I saw him in "Burn This" onstage and he was insanely hot.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 5, 2025 7:10 PM |
He's been in over 700 films. Probably one of the most prolific actors ever.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 5, 2025 7:16 PM |
R12 - Um, let's try 10k. He was in and out in an hour. Setup, sound check, one take, and bang, gone.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 5, 2025 7:19 PM |
Not local tho. Oh my. 😳
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 5, 2025 7:19 PM |
The thought of Eric and sucking is kind of hot.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 5, 2025 7:24 PM |
Roberts probably got an entirely new top of the line HVAC system installed at his house for free and the business also does plumbing and drain cleaning.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 5, 2025 7:29 PM |
That tub commercial is hilarious. I wonder how much he got paid for that.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 5, 2025 7:57 PM |
Back in the day, I was an Eric Roberts fanatic!
Ditto on seeing him on Broadway in "Burn This," R22. WHET to his co-star, Joan Allen? IIRC, she won the Tony for her performance.
R13: Mickey Rourke's character in "The Pope of Greenwich Village" was named Charlie, not Tommy.
"Runaway Train" (with John Voight) was another favorite ER movie..
"Star 80," Wow! The Dorothy Stratton(sp?) murder was the subject of Theresa Carpenter's Pulitzer Prize winning article "Death of A Playmate" published in The Village Voice and adapted to the big screen. Roberts was brilliant as the murderous ex-husband, Paul Stratton. There was lots of real life drama surrounding the article and the participants in Dorothy's short life. Read Ms. Carpenter's article.
Time was when we discussed Eric Robert's films (and looks) as "pre- and post-accident." Poor Sandy Dennis suffered our wrath for the rest of her life.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 5, 2025 8:02 PM |
Master thespians like myself would never stoop to doing a commercial!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 5, 2025 8:19 PM |
Why doesn’t his sister help him?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 5, 2025 8:46 PM |
Siblings are not ethically required to help out their siblings financially just because they've struck it rich and the other siblings are still able to work and pay their rent.
Also, Eric and Julia are not supposed to be very close.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 5, 2025 8:50 PM |
R32 Did he burn 2 many bridges including hers? Does Emma speak to him?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 5, 2025 8:52 PM |
Eric has claimed that all his sister's success is due to him.
May have caused an estrangement? I can't remember the details but it made me decide he was an asshole. And I don't even like Julia Roberts.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 5, 2025 9:06 PM |
Julia bought her husband a surf house in Malibu. She was joking and said that it will keep him from having a mistress. But it was a weird joke.
Anyway, basically, Danny Moder's (Julia's husband) surf house is a multi-million dollar club house for adults.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 5, 2025 9:22 PM |
Eric introduced his kid sister Julia to the world with a role in his film "Blood Red" wherein, as fate would have it, they portrayed siblings.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 5, 2025 9:25 PM |
Eric has burned every bridge he's ever stepped foot on including the one leading to his sister and daughter. It began when he was a drug addled mess and abandoned his wife and daughter which is when Julia stepped in to take care of them and he saw it as taking the ex-wife's side. He then has gone years of going public with private information about her to make a buck and while they have reconciled on and off he continues to go back to his loose lipped ways and they fall back out. By his own admission he says he not supposed to talk publicly about his daughter and his sister but sometimes he messes up. I think in totality she's bailed him out one too many times for his disruptive and careless behavior. Dude is, was and has always been very very messy.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 5, 2025 9:46 PM |
I'm guessing I would rather hang with Eric than Julia.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 5, 2025 9:48 PM |
He should do comic cons. He was in The Dark Knight, Doctor Who, Runaway Train.... He'd make more than doing HVAC commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 5, 2025 9:56 PM |
Eric and Julia reconciled years back.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 5, 2025 10:08 PM |
Danny Moder (Julia's hubby) may not be all that handsome facially, but his body is a wonderland).

by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 5, 2025 10:12 PM |
Many stars bought properties when the money was good and now they have to struggle to keep them and they'll do anything for a buck. Example Pierce Brosnan. You may wonder why he does so many cheap action direct-to-streaming movies these days. He bought a gigantic beachfront property in Malibu when he was rolling in money, last I know he was trying to dump it for 100M and no one was biting. The same applies to so many of them.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 5, 2025 10:15 PM |
Is he a homo R43? I only say that because it seems like you'd have to be a 'mo to put up with Julia Roberts.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 5, 2025 10:17 PM |
Who’s his agent?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 5, 2025 10:25 PM |
Also, I haven't seen anyone mention his gay role in the 1996 AIDS drama, "It's My Party."
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 5, 2025 10:31 PM |
I think a lot of people in Hollywood knew It's My Party was closer to the real Eric than anything else he'd done.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 5, 2025 10:35 PM |
He was very heavy into drugs so I've always assumes he's dipped his toe in the man lake at his lowest looking for a fix and little sister was done helping.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 5, 2025 10:42 PM |
R50 wasn’t he constantly cheating on his girlfriends with other women?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 5, 2025 10:52 PM |
girlfriends? LOLOLOLOL
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 5, 2025 11:13 PM |
[quote] Many stars bought properties when the money was good and now they have to struggle to keep them and they'll do anything for a buck.
I doubt that relates to Eric. He lives in a relatively modest old house out in Sherman Oaks.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 6, 2025 12:18 AM |
Is he Emma’s dad? Regardless of his family connections, he’s luck to get even endorsement gigs. They obviously pay well; Alex Trebek, Joe Namath, and Tom Selleck all did them, the first and the third when they still had network shows. Good for him.
I will always have a soft spot for him from Its My Party. 1996 was a different time and being in a gay film, particularly one that features AIDS, wasn’t something that many wanted to do unless it was Oscar-worthy from the get go like Hanks/Washington in Philadelphia.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 6, 2025 12:46 AM |
I wonder if he's afraid of relapsing if he doesn't keep constantly busy. A sort of symptom substitution. A lot of addicts/alcoholics take on some obsessive activities. Exercise and fitness is a big one. While compulsive, at least they're productive, healthy activities if not pursued to an extreme. The stakes are pretty high for him. He nearly killed himself in a car accident.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 6, 2025 1:00 AM |
For films anyway, Eric Roberts has a "quote", which I heard was $50,000. If you can pay his quote he'll take the gig. I'm not sure how many days of work that gets you, maybe a week.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 6, 2025 1:07 AM |
His bank account is probably fatter than that bitch sister's of his.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 6, 2025 3:22 AM |
Is he still married to Liza? I think that is her name. She used to be a big time casting director.

R59 nice crack you’re smoking.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 6, 2025 3:45 AM |
Workaholics like him are almost always cheap as fuck. He's probably squeezed every nickel into a dime. He's going to die with a million dollars under his mattress.

Erichk Roberscht!

He and Eliza have been together for over 30 years. They run a squirrel sanctuary together, foster rescue cats and dogs, care for the neighborhood raccoons, and advocate for pet adoption.

Lemme see yer squirrel covers R64.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 6, 2025 4:22 AM |
R59 that bitch sister is worth between $300-$400 million and got $20 million for her last Netflix film. I don't even think he's worth that salary. Yes, he's Emma's dad who is probably also worth more than him. He's a fuck up. Plain and simple. He could be reaping the same rewards as Emma because he was a very talented actor but he's a dumb ass. Most work he gets now is directly related because of who his sister is. He would not get half of those otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 6, 2025 4:38 AM |
Yup.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 6, 2025 4:51 AM |

r39 the sister committed suicide, and left a note placing the blame squarely on Julia.
It was a doozy.

Okay, he is now officially adorable. I can forgive a ton of things about people if they're kind to animals.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 6, 2025 1:01 PM |
Clearly at some point Eric got himself together. He's been with his wife for a long time, through thick and thin, and long after she became officially an old woman. Unlike so many Hollywood celebrities he's not traded her in for a little young hotsy totsy. That says a ton for him.
