The only comfort in all this is Linda has Bonnie in heaven to greet her, to show her around, etc.
They’re probably developing a costarring vehicle together to do up in that big dinner theater in the sky. Maybe that female version of “The Odd Couple”?

Ok - can we solve who Barbara Wheaton is? In the Husband’s video he put the pot pot roast in the oven. After Boggle - Linda went back to bed. Barbara climbed in bed to read to Linda. Linda asked Steve to take Barbara out for a walk on the beach. Barbara disappears from the story at that point. Next we have Steve driving Linda to the the hospital. Then he mentions coming home alone. Is Barbara still wali g on the beach?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 6, 2025 3:45 AM |
And who took the pot roast out of the oven? Was that Linda who was supposedly sleeping while Steve and " Barbara" took an hour long stroll on the beach? Or was this concocted so that the police couldn't get a proper time of death?

I always found the comparisons between Lavin and Bonnie Franklin on the DL to be such an injustice to Linda. Whatever she was like behind the scenes, onscreen she always presented as warm and likable. The same cannot be said for the Bonstress. There's a very obvious reason why one actress continued to work in high-pofile stage and television projects for the rest of her life, while the other one wound up playing stock and shilling tap dance videos...
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 6, 2025 9:40 PM |
Personal likes or dislikes aside, they did have very similar trajectories for a time.
Both were on Broadway before their lengthy TV runs.
Both of their series ran for 9 seasons - Alice was 202 episodes, One Day at a Time 209.
Both had singing and dancing backgrounds.
Both had costars that feuded with them (Polly Holliday for Linda, Mary Louise Wilson for Bonnie).
Both were part of that song and dance mess with Hal Linden.

R55 I read Mary Louise Wilson's Book, "She Was the Best Thing In It".
She really doesn't trash ODAAT much at all. I was kinda disappointed. Basically, she claimed she hated living in LA, and really wanted to get back to New York so Norman Lear let her out of her contract. If she said anything at all about Bonnie Franklin, It wasn't interesting enough for me to recall.
And she had no trouble trashing people in the book, so that wasn't it.

What's interesting is Lavin died the weekend between Christmas and New Year's. Many daily shows were in repeats or specials that week. However, the following week I expected to see her mentioned on 'CBS Sunday Morning' - after all, she was a staple on the network for nine years, and very recently she co-starred on their new series 'Elsbeth' last spring. Nothing was said of Lavin. Often they will even re-broadcast an older interview they did on the network - nothing.
When 'The View' returned on the 6th, they covered a few celebrity / newsworthy deaths but not a mention of Lavin who was so popular on television and Broadway.
