Eldergays, tell me about The Skatt Brothers

What a fabulously sleazy, unapologetically gay disco-rock sound they had. Quite an interesting backstory, too!

[quote]They were the “sleazier, more extreme Village People,” according to Doug Brod, author of They Just Seem a Little Weird: How KISS, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, and Starz Remade Rock and Roll. And while the porno-disco-rockers’ signature song and only U.S. hit, “Walk the Night,” didn’t exactly become a wedding-reception staple like their Casablanca Records labelmates’ ubiquitous “YMCA,” there’s no doubt that Skatt Bros. — led by Sean Delaney, the lover of KISS’s then-manager Bill Aucoin and the costumer/choreographer who helped shape Casablanca superstars KISS’s outlandish stage show — made their mark.

Here is 'Walk the Night' -- nicely synced with an Al Pacino classic.

Thanks, OP - I’ve never heard of them before and have enjoyed a quick rabbit hole just now.

Very tacky sound though kind of fun. Gimmick. Never heard of them either and I was a disco bunny for years

They should've had an album called "Glass Coffee Table."

Stealth Scat Thread!

by Anonymousreply 5January 2, 2025 11:55 AM

What's stealth about it?

by Anonymousreply 6January 2, 2025 11:57 AM

Provincetown, the A House, a bottle of poppers and a French Canadian that spoke no English.

Yeah, I remember this one.

by Anonymousreply 7January 2, 2025 1:06 PM

They were no Sir Monti Rock III!

by Anonymousreply 8January 2, 2025 1:11 PM

Geez, that photo. It looks like they’re all seconds away from having to rub their backsides on scratching posts.

Why was scat so popular in gay circles in the 1970s?

by Anonymousreply 10January 2, 2025 2:40 PM

I don't know anything about the group but I first heard "Walk The Night" when I visited bars in the Castro district of SF in the mid-90s.

The Skate Brothers go west.

^^^Skatt

R12 I would clarify, none of the people in that video were the Skatt bros, just Australian models.

The guy bottom left followed me home one night. He walked up to the door behind me and I said, Scat"!

And he did.

by Anonymousreply 15January 2, 2025 5:21 PM

Didn’t they have a CBS variety show? Sort of a last gasp for the genre. I think Helen Lawson was on the pilot.

by Anonymousreply 16January 2, 2025 5:25 PM

Their name was a tribute to me, the Queen of Scat!

by Anonymousreply 17January 2, 2025 5:25 PM

Intriguing...
