I didn’t know she was 84. I couldn’t really tell what was under there or how old it was. So if that’s what she wanted, mission accomplished.

I saw her on the street on the UES once in broad daylight. Frightening to look at in person, she looked like an alien out of Star Trek.

Here's one of her last sightings, in Paris a couple of weeks ago. She didn't look that old in the pics but you can see in this clip that she definitely had the body language of someone who's pretty ancient.

My theory is that she was biracial (maybe her father wasn’t her father or the family was “passing”) and that contributed to the crazy. She was trying to hide it because not being white would impair her ability to social climb in 1960’s South Africa. The weird claim that her appearance is due to her Swiss genetics makes me think it more. My fallback theory is that she burned her face freebasing and doesn’t want anyone to know.

R62, that’s one photo and she looks to be about 14. It’s not proof of anything. Obviously she’s mostly white and the most likely scenario is that my theory is incorrect. I just think it’s possible she was worried that she wasn’t quite white enough. It makes me more sympathetic towards her, imagining her fear and paranoia causing her to alter her appearance beyond anything recognizable as any race or ethnicity. Because otherwise she’s just a fruitcake.

There are very few photos of her pre-surgery but if you told me the woman in the photo of her holding a baby was biracial I wouldn’t be shocked. But, in looking for photos of her I ran across several of her father in law’s second wife, Sylvia Roth Wildenstein. She looks biracial.

There has been some discrepancy about her actual age in some of the obituaries. Most believe she was born in 1940, and she was 84. However, some are reporting she was 79, born in 1945 (as she admitted to most of her life). Still other obits say they had found her 'real birth certificate' and it lists her born in 1935 - making her 89. So take your pick of what age you want her to be.
