How does a vehicle allegedly slam into anything? It either did or it didnât.
Who the fuck wrote this headline?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 1, 2025 12:39 PM |
And apparently the public was warned of threats and told to stay away.
I guess those warnings were not very effective.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 1, 2025 12:40 PM |
Two officers shot by the driver - both expected to survive. It sounded like more than 30 were injured.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 1, 2025 12:41 PM |
r7 the exact headline from local media was "BREAKING: Multiple dead after car may have plowed into crowd on Bourbon Street"
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 1, 2025 12:42 PM |
Potential explosive devices were also found.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 1, 2025 12:43 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 1, 2025 12:54 PM |
CNN doesnât have any details other than 10 dead, 30 injured. Maybe a truck, driving on the sidewalk. Driver apprehended? No mention of that.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 1, 2025 12:55 PM |
R7 It has to do with that being vehicular homicide. They have to say alleged.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 1, 2025 12:57 PM |
ABC reporter said driver was killed by cops. But no one else is reporting that yet.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 1, 2025 12:57 PM |
It was a white Ford F-150 with Texas license plate.

I'm sick of the way news agencies frame all car-vs-people injuries, from everyday accidents to obviously planned murders like this, as if cars were sentient. Can we please put the blame on entitled asshole sociopath drivers where it belongs?
DRIVER KILLS 10 WITH TRUCK

[quote] [R7] It has to do with that being vehicular homicide. They have to say alleged.
Bullshit. Either the car plowed into a crowd or it didnât. If you wanted to say âallegedly done intentionally,â or âdriver allegedly intentionally runs into crowd,â thatâs one thing.
The way the headline is phrased is ridiculous and makes it as though theyâre not sure if a car plowed into a crowd. No one was âallegingâ anything about the car.

I get your point, SylviaFowler and share your reaction.
I think the reason for the phrasing, as far-fetched as it may be because of his reported behavior when the vehicle was stopped, is because, maybe, just maybe, there was a malfunction in the truck.
I get it. That's laughably unlikely, but that's what investigations are for.
They are to rule-out as much as reveal.

From everything I've read about New Orleans at the holidays, Mardi Gras, etc. the locals, unless you have to work there, stay the hell away and let the tourists have at it.
Is that correct?
Man, if you have a relative, friend, enemy, loved one that you know went to NO over NYE to party and you haven't heard from them...that has to be terrible.

This type of incident is why we don't go to parades or other mass public events in 2024. People these days just can't seem to handle or even have nice things. Especially the younger ones.
I'm surprised folks like R65 can't seem to work out this logic on their own?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 1, 2025 2:41 PM |
[quote]It has to do with that being vehicular homicide. They have to say alleged.
Do they, though? Or is that just a cover for poor understanding of English/sloppy journalism? Because surely it is just a fact that the car ploughed into the crowd. The journo can back that up in the text with "Multiple witnesses reported..." that it did. What is "alleged", or will be, is who did it and why. That IS alleged, because it has to be proved in court. In other words, "It is alleged that Joe Blow drove his car into this crowd", but "It is an undisputed fact that a car hit this crowd at speed".
Cars do this stuff because the driver has a heart attack, or because it's a self-driving Tesla. Even if it should prove to be not a crime, it still remains a fact that it ploughed into a crowd.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 1, 2025 3:35 PM |
Very shocking very tragic. The focus shouldn't be on the ethnicity or political motivation of the attacker if the motivation was terrorism it doesn't matter if it's extreme right or left It's wrong and frankly there's no way to guard against this in a public situation other than cordening off a specific public area with barriers to prevent vehicles from entering..
We have to look at it from the perspective is what can I do as one person to mitigate my risk and the risk of my loved ones. All the typical stuff ,stay away from crowds, practice situational awareness, unfortunately that would mean any public gathering celebrating any event is dangerous.. any public park, Mall, shopping center are places where you need to be on high alert.
Of course the media is over hyping everything not reporting the news but creating drama around events. We all need to sift through this look for the facts and act accordingly going forward.

There's so much conflicting information coming out now.
Now they're saying the two people they have on camera placing bombs are no longer suspects. Why? Were they really not placing bombs?
They're also now saying the exploding Tesla cybertruck in Vegas *may* be related to the New Orleans incident because both vehicles were rented from the same company.
The death toll has now been revised down from 15 to 14.

R329, not your exact point, but there are people in the FBI who monitor forums, etc. to see who is becoming radicalized. agree r325. Its understandable that investigators need to find out if this incident is linked to a larger plot, but the fact is that it's domestic terrorism. Terrorism is not associated with a race or ethnicity.
Its also very disturbing that this man was a US veteran.
Im also wondering if the FBI had any tips on this. In recent years the FBI has had a terrible track record on acting on tips from people who encounter mass shooters and domestic terrorists. They waste time trying connect these people to foreign terror groups and never end up taking action before something terrible occurs.

(Kind of surreal to walk around with an open can of beer) I was curious to see how Trump could out-tacky Vegas and how much more outlandish his casino is.
