New York Times Update: Bereft Blogger Widow Still Grifting

Reminiscent of the TV show A Million Little Things. The show starts from what transpires within a group of friends from the day one of them commits suicide because he ended up in a mountain of debt.

Where's the update on the merry widow?

My sister dated a couple of these masters of the universe types in her younger years. Both dumped her for more “glamorous” and connected women.

My sister worked hard, bought great houses, invested, drove her cars forever, is now worth a few million. She’s frugal and imminently sensible and low-key. Her net worth wouldn’t impress these guys, but at least she would have never been a drain on them.

One of her former boyfriends ended up with one of these nutjob, “I don’t want to work, I just want to spend your money” types who ruined his life. Their kids are worthless druggies, nasty divorce after she drove the guy into millions in debt.

Meanwhile, he could have been chillin’ with my sister (who has super smart, accomplished kids.) These guys reap what they sow.

I’m sorry but I think she was the root of their problems. Clueless and didn’t want to really downsize. Who pays $47,000 a month for an apartment rental when they are broke? I think she drove him to suicide.

Stuck with $33.6 million followers n debt.

So the widow owes 33.6 million but it still living large.

Frankly, this guy looked more like Armie Hammer than the guy who is making his "debut" bottoming that some other OP insisted looked like Hammer.

She's living in Miami. I could be wrong but I think Florida has laws which make it difficult for creditors to seize primary homes and other assets.

There’s no humility among this crowd. Even with selling the house and the life insurance, she is still millions of dollars in debt. The house had five mortgages on it. The unpaid rent is her responsibility, despite her claims. As are many of his other debts which he incurred because she is in that weird crowd of fortysomething Hamptons women who insist on living like spoiled, vapid teenagers whose only virtue is materialism. If she had some humility or a values system outside of ostentatious displays, she would be living meagerly in a way that might show her daughters a better way forward. But she can’t because her values are fucked up.

It reminds me of Teresa from Real Housewives. It came out last year that she owes one million dollars in back taxes, yet her whole brand revolves around lavish living. It’s sick. I could live lavishly for the cameras too if I pocketed a million of what I’ve owed the government.

I should add that I know this crowd well. Arielle Charnas. Candice’s sister Jenna. Jordana Blitz, Rebecca Cohen. They all live the same way, though presumably most of them have the actual money to back up the lifestyle. Either way, it’s a very strange “look at me” values system, as if they were unpopular in high school and are out to prove something as adults.

While some Real Housewives are legitimately rich most aren’t. Either broke pretending to be rich. Or even worse downright con artists scamming other people for money and/or married to con men.

A lot of these women are very nice. One of my good friends is right up in there with this crowd. Candice used to be a regular on her social media feed. My friend is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet, a good mom, good politics, truly a great person, but she lives her life the same way. Everything is for show. Posts no fewer than ten pictures of herself a day just because she is wearing a cute outfit. And despite living in NYC theoretically, she is out of town, either to the Hamptons or one of the handful of “right” places to vacation every chance she gets. It’s almost like some sort of gravitational pull. Like she/they don’t even really they have a choice. Which is interesting if you look at their moms, as almost all of them are of the same ilk: women of a certain age who have been nipped and tucked and who are always turned out for the next lunch date.

I'll wait for the Netflix series starring Armie Hammer as the hubby and Rachel Dratch as the ratty wife (provided Ryan Murphy isn't the director). Here's hoping they've reserved two future beds in rehab for the daughters.
