King Charles holds private meeting with Kate Middleton as palace begins ascension plans

King Charles held a private meeting with his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, after the palace kick-started plans for Prince William’s ascension to the throne, according to a new report.

The monarch, 76, was faced with a fresh perspective after enduring a difficult year following his cancer diagnosis in February.

News of the king’s health woes were closely followed by Middleton’s own cancer diagnosis, which she revealed to the world in March.

As a result, the duo are said to have grown closer during their respective health battles.

“She and Charles had a private meeting about her stepping up sooner than expected,” a source told Radar Online.

“As you’d imagine, the relationship between the two of them is incredibly close. They’ve been a huge source of comfort to each other through their side-by-side battles against cancer.”

“It’s also why Charles has taken great pains to give her plenty of space to recover for the inevitable moment that he and Camilla pass on the baton,” the insider added.

The insider added that palace officials are prioritizing to “ensure Kate and William have as smooth a transition to power as possible.”

The Post has reached out to Buckingham and Kensington Palaces for comment.

Indeed, the report follows hot on the heels of rumors that the Prince and Princess of Wales have begun gearing up for William’s ascension to the throne.

“Although the king is carrying out his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith previously told People.

“As a result William has been taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate have been preparing for their future roles sooner than they would have expected.”

Charles, for his part, was also forced to slam the brakes on his jam-packed schedule after his cancer diagnosis.

This in turn has allowed his elder son to represent the Firm at various events, including his recent appearance at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which William attended sans Charles.

“There’s a sense of calm before the storm,” Bedell Smith said. “They are next in line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate’s health has taken priority, but it’s also allowed everyone to take a step back and figure out what’s important right now.”

Last month, palace insiders claimed that royal staffers began drawing up succession plans after the king’s coronation in May 2023.

I feel like something is definitely up with Charles' health.

All of these "leaked" media stories about his cancer, as well as "ascension plans."

The same type of stories were coming out about Queen Elizabeth II, just about a year before she died.

by Anonymousreply 1December 25, 2024 5:51 PM

Yeah, weren’t the latest reports saying that his cancer is now a “managed condition”, ie incurable?

What happens to Camilla once Charles kicks it? Where will she live?

In the stable.

by Anonymousreply 4December 25, 2024 6:06 PM

Is the press still going to refer to her as “Kate Middleton” once she becomes Queen?

by Anonymousreply 5December 25, 2024 6:10 PM

Where will Camilla live as a widow? She already has her own home to which she retreats when necessary. In London, if Buckingham Palace is completed when William ascends, Camilla could remain at Clarence House, where she and Charles live now. Alternatively, she could get William and Catherine's large Kensington Palace apartment as queen-dowager.

Bullshit. He's been doing fuck all as usual.

Aren’t they ordained by god? It’s like the Pope. They’re not to step down until they croak.

by Anonymousreply 8December 25, 2024 10:31 PM

They absolutely can step down if they wish, r8. Edward VIII proved it.

They'll probably let her stay in Clarence House until she dies unless she wishes not to live there. it was recently re-done to her and Charles's specifications and would not be suitable as is for the Waleses and their small children, and another major renovation would be too soon.

My guess is she'll live between there and her own house in Gloucestershire. But she will probably spend most of her time at the latter. I'm not sure where her children and biological grandchildren live (whether in London or in the countryside) but she'll probably want to be near them.

I really don't think she'll be cast out by William and Catherine. First of all, it would look terrible for the brand if she were, and second, Catherine is supposedly close with her.

I am also certain the King will provide handsomely for her in his will.

Kate is out and about this Christmas but to me, her eyes betray she is not well. She's smiling and upbeat but her eyes are slits and she has deep dark circles that makeup couldn't cover. And you know she has access to good makeup and makeup artists.

[quote]Aren’t they ordained by god? It’s like the Pope. They’re not to step down until they croak.

I thought it’s that they were chosen by god to become the monarch. I don’t think there’s any rule that they can’t step down if they’re unable to continue for some reason.

Prince Edward also looks ill and has for a while.

Catherine looks fine. Probably hasn't resumed her botox, etc. yet.

I don't think Charles will abdicate, dying in Office (Reign?) will be more poignant (He worked up until the very end!).

Why does Beatrice's stepson wear the same too small Asian jacket every year? Can't her wealthy husband buy him a bigger size? Or are those jackets supposed to fit like that?

by Anonymousreply 13December 25, 2024 11:08 PM

Beatrice’s Edo.

by Anonymousreply 14December 25, 2024 11:10 PM

They reign by Act of Parliament. The Act of Settlement of 1701 skipped several dozen people and bestowed the crown on distant relatives, the House of Hanover. This was done to keep the crown in the hands of Protestants who would uphold the Church of England. Only Parliament can change the line of succession. Edward VIII could not be considered to have abdicated until Parliament passed the Act of Abdication. It's a constitutional monarchy. The monarch is Head of the Church.

[quote] Edward VIII could not be considered to have abdicated until Parliament passed the Act of Abdication.

In what possible alternative world would they not have done so? You're really splitting hairs.

You cannot force someone to be monarch if they do not wish to be (unless you have a puppet monarchy run by despots). The monarch would not perform their constitutional duties, and then the government would fall to pieces because legislation could not be signed.

You can pry the baton out of my cold, dead hands.

In other words, CHARLES IS TERMNAL

Asian? It's a tyrolian type jacket, fool. The father is Italian. They wear those jackets in Bavarian and Italian country estates and hunting lodges.

The real story behind Kate and William's retreat from public view this year is as much to do with Charles condition and preparing their kids for the big changes coming as it is Kate's non-cancer "preventative treatment". She looks changed, heavy bags under the eyes, sad, but all of that could be because the "abdominal surgery" that had her in the private hospital for an unheard of two weeks was a hysterectomy, causing immediate menopause. All the "putting the children first" excuses this year is about spending one final year before William is King and George is Prince of Wales. Charles is obviously not going to be King for long.

by Anonymousreply 20December 26, 2024 12:14 AM

I don't believe one bit of this story. This would be a shockingly glaring breach of protocol. If they met, it was so he could visit with his sick daughter-in-law; no transition discussions occurred. If these discussions have begun, they are between Charles' people and Williams' people.

Thanks for the information, r19.

No need for name calling.

Cheers!

Once Charles dies I wonder if William will keep or sell Highgrove. I get the feeling he nor Katherine are particularly enamored of keeping it as a residence. It's owned by the Dutchy Of Cornwall that William already controls, although Charles is now renting it from the Dutchy to use as his country residence.

The fact is, these people simply have too many damn places to live.

by Anonymousreply 23December 26, 2024 12:26 AM

Kate is such a liar… like Valerie Harper.

I really don't think so. But Kate does look pretty good. I'll post a daily mail photo in my next post.

I hope that Harry will boycott William's coronation.

William will invite him for sure, just so that Harry will be forced to kneel to him and "kiss the ring."

Harry is better than that. He should snub the whole event.

It's exactly the same as Trump wanting the people he defeated, to come to his inauguration so that he can mock them later.

Throughout Montecito, not a creature was stirring, but some could hear a faint screaming through the night.
