Some write this off as schmaltz-y Hollywood garbage, but I think the movie goes to great pains to not be that kind of movie (even though it comes close on occasion). It mostly feels naturalistic with the situations and humor.
I would have given best picture to "Dangerous Liaisons" in that 1988 lineup, but there's certainly been worse best picture winners (Crash, Green Book, CODA, etc.)

I like the movie, but Dustin really has no clue as to what he's doing. Having worked and been around many people afflicted with autism, his performance is gimmicky.
