Wash Westmoreland

Not to be a priss, but I still think it's kind of remarkable that he got his start in gay porn and yet was able to make mainstream Hollywood movies.

It's actually not that uncommon. Especially in the 1970s and early 1980s, the era of "porno chic," there were a number of people who directed porn or who worked on porn production crews who later went on to have mainstream careers. It was good training ground for people who wanted to work in the filmmaking industry.

Wes Craven, for example, wrote, directed, and appeared in (in a non-sex role) a porn movie in the 70s called "The Fireworks Woman." Spalding Gray appeared in a 70s porn movie (nude and having sex on film) called "The Farmer's Daughter." Sonny Landham, from "Predator" and "48 Hours," appeared in over a dozen porn movies in the 70s before breaking into the mainstream.

Stu Segall was a prolific director of porn in the 70s and 80s, then went on to become a producer on TV shows like "Hunter," "Fashion House," and "Pencsacola: Wings of Gold."

by Anonymousreply 2December 24, 2024 2:12 PM

R2 He directed.

by Anonymousreply 3December 24, 2024 2:13 PM

Yer a precious little poof, aintchya, OP?

by Anonymousreply 4December 24, 2024 2:20 PM

Francis Ford Coppola got his start directing porn.

by Anonymousreply 5December 24, 2024 2:25 PM

R5 Not really. He directed a sequence for a softcore "nudie cutie" film that didn't feature any actual sex.

Anal Wash Westmoreland?

by Anonymousreply 7December 24, 2024 2:49 PM

Directors don’t carry the same porn stigma as actors

by Anonymousreply 8December 24, 2024 4:02 PM

Definitely not soft core.

Well, I wouldn’t fuck her

by Anonymousreply 10December 24, 2024 8:38 PM

I much preferred Wess W. Ashmoreland.

Or even Morel West-Wandash, for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 11December 24, 2024 9:12 PM

Sylvester Stallone was also in a porn movie: The Party at Kitty and Stud's

by Anonymousreply 12December 24, 2024 9:35 PM

I designed porn sets.

by Anonymousreply 13December 24, 2024 9:36 PM

There’s a whole Wikipedia article about adult stars who crossed over to mainstream. Other than Brent Corrigan, the stars who were in gay porn are thin sauce.

You'd probably be shocked to know how many well known Hollywood directors also direct porn on the side. Under fake names obviously.

by Anonymousreply 15December 24, 2024 10:07 PM

R9 R6's comment pertained to Francis Ford Coppola, not Wash Westmoreland.

by Anonymousreply 16December 24, 2024 10:11 PM

Looks like he hasn’t done much since his partner died nearly a decade ago. Perhaps the partner was the real talent.

by Anonymousreply 17December 24, 2024 10:17 PM

Some film editors who are known for their work in mainstream movies also edit porn videos.

by Anonymousreply 18December 24, 2024 10:19 PM

There was Dennis Parker (aka Wade Nichols) who was in gay and straight porn and then was on the Edge of Night for several years.

by Anonymousreply 19December 24, 2024 10:39 PM

R19...and who also had two disco hits, "Like an Eagle" and "New York by Night."

by Anonymousreply 20December 24, 2024 10:45 PM

R14 Whoever put this list together did a lousy job.

by Anonymousreply 21December 24, 2024 10:56 PM

[quote] Dr Jerkoff and Mr Hard and Naked Highway were his first significant films.[citation needed]

I love every part of this sentence.

by Anonymousreply 22December 24, 2024 11:47 PM

R15 is the so-wise insider who doesn't say shit.

Troll.

by Anonymousreply 25December 25, 2024 4:06 AM

Fuck you, OP, making us think he ACTED in porn.

by Anonymousreply 26December 25, 2024 4:47 AM

It's strange but porn actors are good at comedy. When a porno has a plot, they are often competent.

by Anonymousreply 27December 25, 2024 9:05 AM

I read a long article about Wade Nichols that was very interesting and touching. I wish I remember where. Anyone? I think one of those blog like sites on gay history that some much appreciated old dinosaurs still have running.

by Anonymousreply 28December 25, 2024 9:13 AM

R28 Was it this one from The Rialto Report?
