George C. Scott was actually the best. Alastair Sim is also a favorite of mine. Both movies are great. The Reginald Owen/MGM movie is a disaster. The Muppet Christmas movie is quite good.

Basil Rathbone (best known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in a series of 14 film from 1939 to 1946) played Scrooge in an audio-only LP version of A Christmas Carol recorded by the Lyn Murray Singers in 1949. Then he played Marley in 1954 in the hour-long American television anthology variety series, Shower of Stars. Then he played Scrooge in a BBC live televised musical version called The Stingiest Man In Town in 1956.
