Which version of the 'Christmas Carol' movie is best to watch this holiday season?

What do you like?

Isn’t there a 1970s TV one with Marlo Thomas?

That should suffice.

The Mr Magoo version. Nothing else comes close.

'Scrooge' the musical is my favorite!

The best classic: A Christmas Carol (1951) with Alistair Sim

The best musical: Scrooge (1970?) with Albert Finney; Muppets Christmas Carol with Michael Caine; Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol.

Best nontraditional: Scrooged (1988) with Bill Murray

R4 is completely on point. I have watched the Alistair Sim version every Christmas for decades. Watching the Muppets Christmas Carol as well is a new tradition for me and my husband.

I haven't seen the Marlo Thomas movie in years ("It Happened One Christmas") but I remember watching it when I was a teen (it came out in the late 70s) and loving it. IIRC, it got excellent reviews and she / the movie may have been nominated for an Emmy. Not sure why it hasn't aired over the years.

Ebbie starring Miss Susan Lucci followed by A Diva's Christmas Carol starring Miss Vanessa Williams. That's all.

I like the George C. Scott version.

I think I made a mistake - it may actually be a remake of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

R9 You're right - it was a remake of 'It's A Wonderful Life' (that slipped right by me!). Still, I remember it was a wonderful movie - they should air it during the season. TUBI, where are you ?

by Anonymousreply 10December 24, 2024 12:22 AM

I'll second A Diva's Christmas Carol. Loved Vanessa Williams!

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!! Where's the fucking POLL?!
