Spending Christmas Alone: What Should I Watch?

I will be spending Christmas alone this year. My plan to wear pajamas and veg out all day. However, I need help in picking a movie.

by Anonymousreply 49December 24, 2024 4:54 AM

Go to bed

by Anonymousreply 1December 23, 2024 11:19 PM

Just end it all. Pajamas all day?! What a slob...

by Anonymousreply 2December 23, 2024 11:21 PM

R2 It is Christmas

by Anonymousreply 3December 23, 2024 11:21 PM

It IS Christmas!

by Anonymousreply 4December 23, 2024 11:23 PM

The Substance

by Anonymousreply 5December 23, 2024 11:24 PM

I also thought about having a Law & Order marathon. Jerry Orbach is comforting

by Anonymousreply 6December 23, 2024 11:25 PM

Why not settle down to an all-day marathon or binge watch a streamed series?

You're not the only one planning a lazy "me time" Christmas Day; those can be some of the best.

Merry Christmas, OP.

by Anonymousreply 7December 23, 2024 11:29 PM

None of those, OP. I just watched Grumpy Old Men. Great Xmas movie!

by Anonymousreply 8December 23, 2024 11:29 PM

Just litter the DL with your shit posts all day

by Anonymousreply 9December 23, 2024 11:31 PM

I voted for The Age of Innocence. Nothing too cheery, boring or depressing as most other options were.

by Anonymousreply 10December 23, 2024 11:34 PM

Maybe do something outdoors and healthy to start the day before sitting on the couch for the rest of the day.

by Anonymousreply 11December 23, 2024 11:34 PM

I’m going to watch Marathon Man, and then the Law and Order marathon.

by Anonymousreply 12December 23, 2024 11:40 PM

R11 I will be working all day tomorrow, then seeing some friends tomorrow night.

by Anonymousreply 13December 23, 2024 11:40 PM

I've spent my share of Christmases alone, OP. THE perfect movie is While You Were Sleeping.

Wishing you well!

by Anonymousreply 14December 23, 2024 11:43 PM

3.5 hour drive.

by Anonymousreply 15December 23, 2024 11:47 PM

Murder, She Wrote marathon. Do you need a playlist of episodes?

Murder Takes the Bus is absolutely flawless.

by Anonymousreply 16December 23, 2024 11:52 PM

Take a huge shit

by Anonymousreply 17December 23, 2024 11:53 PM

Definitely not Schindler’s List.

by Anonymousreply 18December 23, 2024 11:56 PM

Doctor Zhivago

by Anonymousreply 19December 23, 2024 11:56 PM

OP, you’ve already watched all or most of the films in your poll. Why not select one you haven’t watched?

by Anonymousreply 20December 23, 2024 11:59 PM

DONKEY SKIN. The fairy tale atmosphere fits the Xmas season perfectly. And Delphine Seyrig lip-syncing an anti-incest song to Catherine Deneuve is one of the most fabulous scenes ever filmed!

GOD I love The Age of Innocence.

"The dinner, New York read on the invitation, was 'to meet the Countess Olenska'... And New York declined."

by Anonymousreply 22December 24, 2024 12:21 AM

The Age of Innocence. It couldn't be more different than his mob movies and it's beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 23December 24, 2024 12:25 AM

In an interview with Michelle Pfeiffer when it came out, she said she swooned over the Baccarat Crystal that was used in a dining scene.

by Anonymousreply 24December 24, 2024 12:32 AM

The "band of conspirators" scene is my favorite scene, and Joanne Woodward's narration is a killer.

by Anonymousreply 25December 24, 2024 12:37 AM

Lawrence of Arabia.

Then listen to the Cine-Files podcast # 85 & # 86 about it. That’ll take care of most of the day.

Watch porn all day, OP, and beat off until your dick gets blisters.

by Anonymousreply 28December 24, 2024 1:17 AM

It's my dog and I, OP. I received an invitation but it's a long distance so I politely declined.

by Anonymousreply 29December 24, 2024 1:20 AM

My favorites, not in any particular order and an eclectic mix: Bell, Book and Candle. The Flower-Drum Song. The Fortress. With 6 you get Eggroll. What's Up Doc? Spaceballs. Home Alone. Auntie Mame. The Parent Trap (original with Haley Mills, not the remake with that skanky walking STD open weeping sore. Sixteen Candles. Dennis the Menace. Houseboat. When Harry met Sally. Wings of Desire. Manhattan. Sleeper. Barbarella. The Meaning of Life. Fear of Fanny (Fanny Cradock). Ok that should keep you busy - when you finish these, let's have a chat about it.

by Anonymousreply 30December 24, 2024 1:37 AM

“Lawrence of Arabia he’s an English guy who came to save the Turks”

by Anonymousreply 31December 24, 2024 1:38 AM

You can’t watch a Christmas movie?

by Anonymousreply 32December 24, 2024 2:00 AM

I usually have TNT marathon of A Christmas Story but I cut the cord on cable so now I don’t know….

by Anonymousreply 33December 24, 2024 2:02 AM

Go for The Lion at Winter. It's set at Christmas, has all those great bitchy lines, and a young and hot Timothy Dalton

by Anonymousreply 34December 24, 2024 2:10 AM

Watch Reckless.

by Anonymousreply 35December 24, 2024 2:32 AM

Don't watch the Age of Innocence if you have holiday blues OP

or Fanny and Alexander it has scenes of violence against kids.

Watch light stuff.

by Anonymousreply 36December 24, 2024 3:01 AM

Watch Korean dramas

by Anonymousreply 37December 24, 2024 3:02 AM

Not Squid Game

by Anonymousreply 38December 24, 2024 3:02 AM

R36 I don't like light stuff

by Anonymousreply 39December 24, 2024 3:06 AM

AoI is pretty benign. It's a romance, and I won't spoil it but it's not like it ends tragically or anything.

by Anonymousreply 40December 24, 2024 3:12 AM

If you've never seen it, I recommend the HBO series Six Feet Under. Movie - The Departed.

by Anonymousreply 41December 24, 2024 3:36 AM

I don't like Dr. Zhivago. If anything, I find it depressing - and not in a good way.

by Anonymousreply 42December 24, 2024 3:39 AM

R42 The supporting roles/performances are good in Dr Z and it is a beautifull film to look at. But the 3 leads are an absolute dud as is the central love story.

by Anonymousreply 43December 24, 2024 4:12 AM

Just watched Fannie and Alexander-amazing beginning-

by Anonymousreply 44December 24, 2024 4:25 AM

The Family Stone. Sarah Jessica Parker was quite good in it.

by Anonymousreply 45December 24, 2024 4:30 AM

The Lion In Winter - It's a Christmas movie. Really

by Anonymousreply 46December 24, 2024 4:38 AM

The opening scenes in Fannie and Alexander of 1907 Christmas in an upscale Swedish household really get you in the mood-kinda goes down hill from there…

by Anonymousreply 47December 24, 2024 4:44 AM

The lion in the winter before you go see the sequel, mufasa. 👓

by Anonymousreply 48December 24, 2024 4:53 AM

OP, You’re supposed to be the kind elderly face of fucking Christmas. You should be punished for isolating and failing to radiate shmize for your peeps and the painkiller has definitely kicked in.
