Christopher Nolan is doing THE ODYSSEY: Matt Damon is Odysseus

Tom Holland is Telemachus I'm assuming

by Anonymousreply 105December 25, 2024 2:36 AM

I hope he does it well. I’m so looking forward to this.

by Anonymousreply 1December 23, 2024 10:28 PM

Odysshey

Odyssheus

by Anonymousreply 2December 23, 2024 10:28 PM

Will Matt have any nude or nearly nude scenes?

by Anonymousreply 3December 23, 2024 10:29 PM

Anne Hathaway - Penelope

Lupita Nyongo - Calypso?

Zendaya - Circe?

Charlize Theron - Athena? (great choice if so)

Robert Pattinson - Antinous?

by Anonymousreply 4December 23, 2024 10:31 PM

Matt Damon? It'll suck.

by Anonymousreply 5December 23, 2024 10:33 PM

This could be good

by Anonymousreply 6December 23, 2024 10:34 PM

Shing for me O Mushe

by Anonymousreply 7December 23, 2024 10:35 PM

I’m feeling rage at the Damon casting.

by Anonymousreply 8December 23, 2024 10:38 PM

Nolan is such a pretentious twat.

by Anonymousreply 9December 23, 2024 10:40 PM

The Damon casting makes sense now. Nolan likes to cast a fair haired actor who looks somewhat like himself. He would of course see Odysseus as his avatar.

by Anonymousreply 10December 23, 2024 10:40 PM

[quote] He would of course see Odysseus as his avatar.

James Cameron made Avatar!

by Anonymousreply 11December 23, 2024 10:43 PM

Isn't Matt a little old for Odysseus? Why not Chris Hemsworth?

by Anonymousreply 12December 23, 2024 10:48 PM

Because Nolan likes Matt Damon and has worked with him in two films already.

by Anonymousreply 13December 23, 2024 11:04 PM

I think I'm done with him after Oppenheimer. It's clear he has bad judgement and there's no one around to rein him in. Expect this movie to be 3.5 hours long.

by Anonymousreply 14December 23, 2024 11:32 PM

Holland will play a new character, Fukmyassus.

by Anonymousreply 15December 23, 2024 11:33 PM

Just Jared.

by Anonymousreply 16December 24, 2024 12:07 AM

Lupita would probably be Circe and Zendaya Calypso. Circe needs gravitas; Calypso's just horny.

by Anonymousreply 17December 24, 2024 12:23 AM

Please please not Matt Damon. I always pictured Odysseus as tall muscular and swarthy.

by Anonymousreply 18December 24, 2024 12:27 AM

Who will play the dying dog?

by Anonymousreply 19December 24, 2024 12:40 AM

R19 Shawn Mendes

by Anonymousreply 20December 24, 2024 12:41 AM

Matt Damon is way too old for this.

by Anonymousreply 21December 24, 2024 12:53 AM

Lizsha as Shirshee:

“Here drink thish Odyssheeush, it’ll knock your shandalsh off!””

by Anonymousreply 22December 24, 2024 12:56 AM

Nolan is a talented director so I don't see how it could be bad.

by Anonymousreply 23December 24, 2024 1:00 AM

That is one good picture of Nolan. He rarely looks that good in pix.

Damon as Odysseus is silly. I've read The Odyssey. I've studied the Odyssey. Damon is no Odysseus.

Russell Crowe 20 years ago would have been what I pictured. The only two actors who I can even think of who would remotely fit the part are, oddly enough, black men: Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

No other actors 40-50 years old really stand out for this type of role.

by Anonymousreply 24December 24, 2024 1:04 AM

^^^ don't get me wrong, I'm not pushing for casting black men for Odysseus, merely that they have the bearing and gravitas to play the role, as Crowe did.

by Anonymousreply 25December 24, 2024 1:12 AM

Where does it say that Matt Damon is playing Odysseus?

by Anonymousreply 26December 24, 2024 1:22 AM

I’m so glad Chris is willing to give this inconsequential tale “The Nolan Treatment” so it’ll go from insignificance to a truly great story.

It’s so good of him to rescue such little-known folk tales.

by Anonymousreply 27December 24, 2024 1:27 AM

He is the star of the movie.

by Anonymousreply 28December 24, 2024 1:29 AM

Matt Damon's old ass as Odysseus? WTF

by Anonymousreply 29December 24, 2024 1:35 AM

Is Damon’s ass now flat?

by Anonymousreply 30December 24, 2024 1:40 AM

Ryan Gosling could be Odysseus.

by Anonymousreply 31December 24, 2024 1:40 AM

I hope they make Matt Damon wear a caftan!!

by Anonymousreply 32December 24, 2024 1:49 AM

In the pathway of the sun,

In the footsteps of the breeze,

Where the world and sky are one,

He shall ride the silver seas,

He shall cut the glittering wave.

I shall sit at home, and rock;

Rise, to heed a neighbor's knock;

Brew my tea, and snip my thread;

Bleach the linen for my bed.

They will call him brave.

by Anonymousreply 33December 24, 2024 1:54 AM

Nolan will title it “Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.”

by Anonymousreply 34December 24, 2024 2:20 AM

I finally wanted to dispel the myth that all ancient Greeks were FAGS. Admittedly it'll be difficult with Tom Holland on set.

by Anonymousreply 35December 24, 2024 3:39 AM

Guys, I think I'm missing part of my costume for this - I got the collar and sandals, but where's the rest?

by Anonymousreply 36December 24, 2024 3:49 AM

[quote]Expect this movie to be 3.5 hours long.

More like 4 hours. And he'll throw a fit if anyone tries to trim it down.

I wonder if he knows about John Huston's film of the Bible that was a huge flop.

by Anonymousreply 37December 24, 2024 6:06 AM

God Matt Damon is such an uninteresting choice for this. Why?

by Anonymousreply 38December 24, 2024 6:14 AM

Is this going to be a sword and sandal epic? Hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 39December 24, 2024 6:21 AM

Christopher Nolan + Matt Damon in their interpretation of The Odyssey? I would rather clean under the refigerator

Why not add Leo diCaprio to the mix? The three of these potato-faced hacks seem to be morphing into the same blob.

by Anonymousreply 40December 24, 2024 6:25 AM

[Quote] Is this going to be a sword and sandal epic?

No, Rose, it’s a story about two interior designers who drive across America.

by Anonymousreply 41December 24, 2024 6:25 AM

Casting Timmy as Achilles would seem to be a mistake.

by Anonymousreply 42December 24, 2024 6:54 AM

Nice A I fantasy foto of Nolan.

by Anonymousreply 43December 24, 2024 7:01 AM

R41 I mean you joke but the Cohen bros adapted it to depression era America, James Joyce did it to Edwardian Dublin. The general story of the Odyssey can be adapted in pretty much any setting.

by Anonymousreply 44December 24, 2024 7:19 AM

Matt Damon is the least interesting major actor of his generation. He is an excellent networker, I’ll give him that.

This role should have gone to someone actually talented like Christian Bale.

by Anonymousreply 45December 24, 2024 7:23 AM

While that is an excellent headshot of Nolan today, it’s fairly common knowledge that as a young man he was quite beautiful and resembled Tom Hardy (whom he cast three times)

Matt Damon? This must be Odyssey the Senior Years.

by Anonymousreply 47December 24, 2024 11:22 AM

Christopher Nolan is handsome.

by Anonymousreply 50December 24, 2024 2:52 PM

It's going to be Christopher Nolan's Odyssey, and it's going to be a critics' darling but really a lifeless suckfest.

I wish someone would try to bring Mycenaean Greece to the big screen as authentically as possible. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be this movie, though.

by Anonymousreply 51December 24, 2024 2:54 PM

[quote]t’s a story about two interior designers who drive across America

I'd watch that.

by Anonymousreply 52December 24, 2024 2:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 53December 24, 2024 3:25 PM

Lizsha, die already, you old drunken cunt!

by Anonymousreply 54December 24, 2024 3:29 PM

I loved Troy, which was Mycenean. Altho Achilles needed anger management training.

by Anonymousreply 55December 24, 2024 6:31 PM

The first lines of The Iliad were about the rage of Achilles, so yes he was supposed to be angry.

Sing, Goddess, sing of the rage of Achilles, son of Peleus

that murderous anger which condemned Achaeans

to countless agonies and threw many warrior souls

deep into Hades, leaving their dead bodies

carrion food for dogs and birds

all in fulfilment of the will of Zeus.

Uh, guys? I seem to be in a lot of scenes, but I don't have any lines?

by Anonymousreply 57December 24, 2024 6:42 PM

I can honestly see Holland doing OK with Telemachus. He mostly just has to travel round looking wide eyed and inexperienced at the world asking a bunch of older better actors questions about his dad, form a bromance with Peisistratus, then kill a bunch of guys trying to fuck his mum.

by Anonymousreply 58December 24, 2024 6:47 PM

Jesus Christ, another fucking movie with fucking Zendaya.

by Anonymousreply 59December 24, 2024 9:48 PM

Did Zendaya get the part because she's fucking Holland or did Holland get the part because he's fucking Zendaya?

by Anonymousreply 60December 24, 2024 9:49 PM

I’m playing Prius Maximus—I’m slow in the beginning but have range.

by Anonymousreply 61December 24, 2024 9:54 PM

I’m playing Priapus Minimus in the movie version of the Aeneid.

by Anonymousreply 62December 24, 2024 9:56 PM

What's your refractory period, R61?

by Anonymousreply 63December 24, 2024 10:08 PM

The Franco Rossi 1968 adaptation is by far the best with the hottest Odysseus.

If someone had just been giving Paris the D that he needed, the Iliad would have turned out very differently.

by Anonymousreply 66December 24, 2024 10:25 PM

Tom has an angry-looking face. He seems genuinely nice though.

by Anonymousreply 67December 24, 2024 10:26 PM

Will they include the hanging of the unfaithful maids, which even the 1968 version left out, which is otherwise graphic.

by Anonymousreply 69December 24, 2024 10:40 PM

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the choice for Odysseus!

by Anonymousreply 70December 24, 2024 10:53 PM

[quote] Damon as Odysseus is silly. I've read The Odyssey. I've studied the Odyssey.

Then you certainly know that Odysseus is supposed to be middle aged, broad shouldered, not tall, and very intelligent.

Damon is middle aged, broad shouldered, 5'10", and a former Harvard student.

by Anonymousreply 75December 24, 2024 11:23 PM

Odysseys is supposed to toggle between a wretched old beggar and a muscular man in his mid 40s.

by Anonymousreply 76December 24, 2024 11:30 PM

Damon’s not Greek though! He looks Scandinavian!

by Anonymousreply 77December 24, 2024 11:32 PM

Blond Odysseus is as silly as Greek warriors with Scottish accents in Troy.

by Anonymousreply 84December 24, 2024 11:42 PM

There were absolutely blonds in ancient Greek poetry.

Odysseus was not one, but there's no reason why Damon would have to be blond for this movie.

[quote] Most people in ancient Greece had dark hair and, as a result of this, the Greeks found blond hair immensely fascinating. In the Homeric epics, Menelaus the king of the Spartans is, together with some other Achaean leaders, portrayed as blond. Other blond characters in the Homeric poems are Peleus, Achilles, Meleager, Agamede, and Rhadamanthys. Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, was often described as golden-haired and portrayed with this color hair in art. Aphrodite's master epithet in the Homeric epics is χρυσέη (khruséē), which means "golden". The traces of hair color on Greek korai probably reflect the colors the artists saw in natural hair; these colors include a broad diversity of shades of blond, red and brown. The minority of statues with blond hair range from strawberry blond up to platinum blond

by Anonymousreply 89December 24, 2024 11:51 PM

Should they have cast Henry Cavill?

by Anonymousreply 90December 24, 2024 11:53 PM

I think Nolan wants his star to act.

by Anonymousreply 100December 25, 2024 12:17 AM

Why not Pedro Pascal for Odysseus? A natural.

by Anonymousreply 101December 25, 2024 1:00 AM

Timmy and Holland can have a slapping, hair-pulling match to see who is the better boy.

by Anonymousreply 102December 25, 2024 1:26 AM

Pedro Pascal would have been very good.

Henry Cavill would have been a good Odysseus, as he is good at playing someone whom “stuff happens to” - a stoic.

But it was always going to be a blond. God knows Nolan will figure out some way to get a scarf on Odysseus as well.
