I want a new laptop. Mine is 10 years old and it's become a desktop because it always needs to be plugged in.

You probably just need a new battery. Easy to replace on some models.
But assuming this is a Windows computer, you need to make sure your current model can run Windows 11 before putting any money into it.
As for recommendations -- a lot depends on what you're going to use it for. There are hundreds of articles and reviews out there.

Same here, R1. And mine does need a new battery, which I've had ready to in for at least a year. I finally got around to putting it in and found I couldn't. There's some special tool you need to take off some of the screws and remove the back. On my old laptop, you could just slide out the old battery and slide in the new one. It's fucking infuriating.
Anyway, the computer itself is clearly on its last legs. It's been out of warranty for years and seems really buggy, but I can't spend the money right now.

Be careful about some of these devices that have to be plugged in all the time. It's actually still running on battery. At some point, if the battery is 100% shot, you won't even get power with the plug.

I'd like to have some new cookware, linens, and some shoes. A new nightgown, too.

Well, I just said I would like some new cookware and my son just brought me in a big air fryer! I have no idea what all can be cooked in it or how to use it, but I wanted one anyway! I was just answering OP's question when he came in with it and said " open it mom." I didn't expect that.
