Luigi’s lawyer ripping into Eric Adams
This is perfect lmao. We all know that perp walk was incredible PR for Luigi but legally it still gave him argument for violation of his constitutional rights.
Does anyone know how this sort of scenario usually plays out? Certainly this is an unusual case, but there have to be consequences when an elected official declares a suspect on trial guilty before a press junket right?

Having guards near a defendant may be more or less standard in criminal trials. But to have two guards hovering over his person seems not a little bit prejudicial as well.

I absolutely agree with her. He is being made a spectacle. Adams is a total asshole. and I read the other day that the DoJ was under heavy pressure from Insurance industry executives to make sure this was a federal crime.. They wanted the "terrorism" charge and she's right, two jurisdictions at war, politicizing this and opportunists like Adams riding on it, not to importune the voters, but to aggrandize himself with the big shots and the corporate Dons. People with power and money. I stand with Luigi. Not because he is innocent. But because his rights as a citizen have been violated, and also we have no idea of the mitigating circumstances. IMO, I think the guy snapped and was in the throes of a mental health episode. He has been in a dark place since at least June. He's also hot.

R5 is absolutely right. You know what it does? Aside from making him more sympathetic by giving the appearance of bullying him, it also makes them, the Police and the establishment look weak and scared. The so called show of force to demonstrate that Luigi is a dangerous criminal is ridiculous. Fucking Charles Manson didn't get that kind of treatment.

I think I saw Luigi's stats as 5'11" and only 135 lbs. That's pretty slender. But the shirtless pic with the pecs and abs is hot.

R25 - with luck, it will only embolden people. I think it makes law enforcement and Adams look weak. Most people can see through this manufactured show of law enforcement bravado. Also, I'm willing to bet a number of those "guarding" Luigi are secretly sympathetic and/or support the CEO being shot. Insurance industry greed isn't a left/right, red/blue issue. The killing of the CEO was a sort of symbolic occurrence that succeeded in large part to erase social conditioning boundaries.

They seem be unaware that the perp walk tableau they created depicts the very type of scenario disgruntled, disturbed individuals fixated on victimization and grievance want. The attention would be intoxicating to them. The authorities didn't really think it through. Unsurprising.

R35 if he has demonstrable mental health issues, or if the jury nullifies the crime, yeah, he can get off. But the deck is stacked against him except where public opinion is concerned. He is being obviusly bullied and strong armed very publicly and it is not a smart strategy by the prosecution.

DL lawyers: Don't the simultaneous prosecutions of the same crime come under double jeopardy proections in the Fifth Amendment, besides being a colossal waste of money? It's going to cost multi-millions to prosecute in either jurisdiction. Is this going to turn into a pissing match between Alvin Bragg and Pam Bondi?

[quote] Federal court makes Luigi eligible for the Death Penalty as a "terrorist."
He’s NOT charged with terrorism by the Feds. One of the many weird things about the double charge.
He’s still eligible for the federal death penalty, but I doubt Biden’s team will ask for it. Trump’s team might.
R40–I think the answer is yes, but it is so unusual for the Feds and a state to both bring murder charges that I’m not sure the question has ever been decided. It would not be double jeopardy for the Feds to charge him for a different offense such a deprivation of Civil Rights laws, but they don’t have that case here.

I had assumed that LEO SOP now is to suppress the name and other public information about assassins/school shooters/'terrorists', because they assume that such crimes are committed by egomaniacs who just want the attention (which, granted, is often true).
And yet here they are, having coordinated and staged one of the most theatrical public events of the century.
I'm glad for Luigi's ability to remain composed in such a severely tense situation. I know that I would turn hysterical if I was surrounded by a cordon of heavily armed LEO.
