Typical religious grift

by Anonymousreply 1December 23, 2024 1:55 AM

The silly woman in the article got herself pregnant while uninsured. No sympathy. If you're uninsured, don't have intercourse or make damned sure you take your birth control pill at the same time every day. Set your phone alarm. It's not hard, FFS.

All religion is good for these days is to make money for grifters.

Her name sounds Jewish. Maybe that’s why they wouldn’t pay

[quote]citing a policy near the end of the group’s member guidelines: Within the first year of membership, medical bills for childbirth “are not shareable.”

It sounds like they didn't read the fine print. The bills for childbirth are notoriously expensive. So, it sounds like this organization needs to have a stipulation that only allows members who have been paying them for 12 months to be eligible for coverage. This is likely to remain in operation. Compared to the fact that regular health insurance includes hefty deductibles, it seems like the fault lies with these people for being stupid enough to get pregnant without health insurance.

How dumb and pitiful is the man she married, though? Get a fucking vasectomy if you can't afford to provide coverage for your family. He sounds pathetic, and she's pathetic for marrying a loser like that.

That’s a pretty bleak attitude R2

More stories like this to come once Obama Care is demolished. Enjoy what you voted for.

Just a reminder that people who are zealously religious - like those in OP's link - [bold]HATE[/bold] gay people and think we are "less than" and an abomination to their god. They loathe us and they're not shy about it.

These are folks that specifically planned coverage once they got pregnant and were likely to cancel coverage once all the bills were paid.

This is why most insurance outside company sponsored doesn’t work. It’s not a streaming video membership, and the bite is too big unless you don’t feel it coming off your paycheck a week at a time.

I was paying for myself when my company dropped me and it was twice the price, I never used it, and cancelled it the moment I got a new job that had decent benefits.

Another "Accidental Renaissance" photo!

Hospitals charge 200$ just for laying the baby on the mother’s chest. No lie.

by Anonymousreply 11December 23, 2024 12:09 PM

Why didn't they just get an Obamacare plan?

by Anonymousreply 12December 23, 2024 3:28 PM

This is an old story. Regular health insurance used to have a separate "maternity rider" and if you got pregnant before that took effect, you had plenty of bills, although uncomplicated childbirth was not as expensive as it has become.

Because Obama is the devil!

R4 SOUNDS Jewish? Rachel Kaplan? Can't think of too much more of a Jewish name.

So she's one of Asheville's hippies - she teaches yoga on Saturdays (!) - sounds to me like she leads one yoga class. And that's her income.

I don't understand why you would think a faith-based program would be better than ACA except the price - they were paying $147 a month. They went with the low-cost option - which is a scam and should make you look at the fine details as to why it's so low.

What I don't understand is that ACA has sliding fees based on income - if she's teaching yoga just once a week - they probably would have qualified for a large reduction in monthly cost.

But guaranteed, she's one of those "I'm not going to worry about it" Asheville hippies. Just got back from Asheville last week - love the place - but I could see how this type of thinking can exist.

With such a low income, I would assume she would qualify for Medicaid. Maybe her husband's salary is over the medicaid limit

Agree with R5. If you want a kid/a family, don't marry a loser like this lady did unless you have big girl insurance coverage, not this religious bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 17December 23, 2024 4:44 PM

Only in America 🤦🏻‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 18December 23, 2024 4:53 PM

Looks like she moved to Asheville from NYC a few years ago and teaches hot yoga. She's 38.

She probably got pregnant and thought, it's either now or never. I understand that - I've seen it a lot. No shaming on her for that.

But her LinkedIn is really sparse - like I said, she seems like this holistic hippie who just didn't look into things.

They'll be fine - they've already paid off the $7k for the birth and now have a few thousand more for other charges. It's not like she had a $50,000 bill.

If giving birth has such sanctity, shouldn't it be free?

by Anonymousreply 20December 23, 2024 7:05 PM

R15 is right. Asheville is one of those places where you get some really odd "hybrids". A little of liberal this, a little of libertarian that. And a lot of INSUFFERABLE.
