Tasteful friends: 1920s Chicago duplex condo $698K

A 3-bedroon, 3-bathroom duplex apartment in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood, with 2500 square feet. The principal floor includes a foyer, double-height living room, dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, full bath, and bedroom; the upper floor has two en suite bedrooms.

There are a few finished I would change, but I like the plan and most of the more modern feature. I'd lose the bar and make a few changes to kitchen and baths. Some paint would go a long way, especially on the stair which fades to indifferent in the white on white scheme. The double-height room and its arched ceiling are the obvious selling features.

Monthly fees are $2200 (includes heat, water); plus $1400/mo taxes ($1700/year).

What a dump. Not a god damned gold plated toilet in sight.

You typed the annual taxes wrong, hun.

Cheers, R3. Annual taxes are $17,000 ($1400/mo.)

5 grand a mouth? Pricey. The fees aren't tax deductible!

Is that an induction stove?

It’s very nice. - it just needs some color and big art. The bathrooms are 90s bland but nothing offensive. The only real disappointment is the spare 60s looking stair railing - I’d think there was something more decorative there originally.

It's got no character.

It's nice but needs color and a lot of updating. I am also not crazy about the floorplan, and that staircase definitely needs some pizzazz. There are many lovely buildings of this vintage on the South Side that would be wonderful homes but for the neighborhoods.
