“Johnny Dangerously” opened in 1984 — 40 years ago

What did you think of “Johnny Dangerously” when it opened 40 years ago? Magnum opus or magnum DUD? Did you consider it to be Joe Piscopo’s finest work?

Have your feelings about “Johnny Dangerously” shifted over these past four decades?

Do you remember where you were when you first heard of “Johnny Dangerously?”

Ooh that's one of the titles I always saw at Blockbuster untouched like Swing Shift, Orderlies and Places in the Heart

No r1 people touched it! But they treated it with reverence as it deserves, so carefully cleaned the box before returning it.

Marilu Henner is presumably the only person alive who remembers every minute of it.

Joe Flaherty, an actual comic genius who died this year, has a small uncredited role in this pic.

Maureen Stapleton was hilarious in it.

Great movie!

I’d rewatch it but I’m afraid looking at Piscopo might make me puke.

Some people say the movie was too smart for 80s theater goers.

I was unaware of it from the start. And except for just now looking at the image of the poster or box cover, remain happily ignorant of it.

It's a clever spoof of 1930s gangster movies, and quite funny. Not at the level of an Airplane! or Young Frankenstein, but still a good time.

Saw it on TV. Joe Piscopo was so sexy in it. Before he went too far with the bodybuilding.

I watched it in the theatre, but I was 10 and I don't remember a damn thing about it.

by Anonymousreply 11December 21, 2024 7:54 PM

I remember it, but I haven't seen it. I may watch it tonight. I'm adding something off topic, sorry, OP. I saw The Brutalist last night and it was really good. Adrian Brody and Guy Pierce was exceptional.

Your surname’s an adverb. A fun movie.
