The party's over It's time to call it a day They've burst your pretty balloon And taken the moon away It's time to wind up the masquerade Just make your mind up the piper must be paid
It seemed to be right just being with him Now you must wake up, all dreams must end Take off your makeup, the party's over It's all over, my friend

You can buy it all online - and there's more choice. Party City was always overpriced.
I'm not surprised.

I have lots of fond memories of Party City. The truth is, though, there is too much plastic in the world. Too much cheap crap. Too much cheap Chinese plastic crap. We would do well to evolve away from cheap, unbiodegradable, Chinese plastic crap.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 20, 2024 10:29 PM |
For you Michiganders, this is not what you normally call a “party store”. They don’t carry booze.

I just went into a Nordstrom Rack for the first time the other day. I know I sound like Abe Simpson, but I just needed a 6 pack of cheap socks. I was completely appalled by all of the cheap plastic geegaws at the checkout line. Do all of these stores have aisles and aisles of cheap plastic junk? No wonder there's a giant plastic garbage island in the Pacific Ocean.
If people can afford to buy all of this junk, I don't want to ever hear about inflation or $8 eggs.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 20, 2024 11:13 PM |
Even if it's a plastic egg with gewgaws?

I just watched a Peacock documentary on Richard Ramirez. There was this journalist who covered his case and got to know Ramirez's wife, Doreen. She said the last time she ran into her, Mrs. R was working in a party supply store. I wonder if it was a Party City.

Yes. It’s so much fun to drive to a store, search (often futilely) for what you need, try to get help from employees who may or may not know what they are talking about, and drive home without what you went for. So much better.

They will be employed for two more months - the stores aren't closing until the end of February. They're unloading all their sh it for Christmas, New Years, Valentine's and Mardi Gras before they close for good.

I saw a news report that showed the “Dear Colleague” letter to the entire headquarters staff who were laid off effective immediately. It kept repeating the date December 20, 2024 like a mantra instead of saying “today” or “immediately.” It was very strange and cold.
At the end it identified some poor slob as the one person to call if you have any questions about your notification dated December 20, 2024 of the decision made December 20, 2024 to cease operations on December 20, 2024 and the instructions to get the fuck out on December 20, 2024.
If the entire headquarters staff was laid off, who is going to count the money from the continuing store operations and pay the workers in the stores?
Maybe they kept Ginny in Billing.

Obviously they didn’t keep OUR Ginny in Billing. I was using her memory as a symbol of the heroic, overburdened, underpaid office Frau.

They have brought in former Congressman George Santos. He has proven to be very responsible with other people's money.
