THR says Josh O’Connor will replace ATJ as Bond

Yikes!
Come on Hollywood. Be more creative than that.

My prediction since the 🥦 s are apparently determined to cast someone on the spectrum
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 19, 2024 8:58 PM |
"La Chimera" might be my favorite film of the year, and he was superb in it. And it was a completely different performance than his performance in "Challengers." He would be a great Bond.
Whether or not signing onto the franchise in 2024 is is a good career move is another question. It feels played out.

the horror
the horror
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 19, 2024 9:11 PM |
I thought you were talking about Anya Taylor-Joy. I don't ordinarily keep up with Bond news, so that casting caught my eye.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 19, 2024 9:15 PM |
I think O'Connor is terrific and I wish him every success. For that very reason I rather hope it isn't true because it will busy him with a series of Bond films that take away the prospect of him being in better (if less lucrative) films.
O'Connor cannot put a foot wrong as far as I'm concerned, and he would be a great Bond. But even though I like (some) Bond films, they are not up to the quality he can deliver. It could be an interesting pairing, but more than likely it would be one good film and four bad ones - and a sea of good non-Bond films he wont have the time to do.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 19, 2024 9:15 PM |
Is ATJ somehow Daniel Craig?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 19, 2024 9:17 PM |
I guess there is precedent for an, umm, interesting looking Bond.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 19, 2024 9:17 PM |
O’Connor is too interesting an actor to play Bond.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 19, 2024 9:17 PM |
Jerry O,Connell?? Wow what a big leap from The Talk!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 19, 2024 9:18 PM |

I don’t know him but he’s kinda sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 19, 2024 9:21 PM |
James Norton would be my pick.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 19, 2024 9:23 PM |
Josh O’Connor is not the new Sean Connery.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 19, 2024 9:51 PM |
So Kraven the Hunter bombing also killed Aaron Taylor-Johnson's chance at playing Bond? Well, then something good came out of the Kraven bombing,.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 19, 2024 9:52 PM |
"lol"
Are you 12, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 19, 2024 9:54 PM |
No ATJ dropped out sometime in March. There was a BIG PR push and then with Broccolis were making announcements like “the deal is on the table” and they reached out to former James Bonds to encourage him to take the role.
He walked away.

[quote] Come on Hollywood. Be more creative than that.
If true I'd find that pretty creative. I'd expect a totally different kind of Bond in that case. But yeah, I don't see it. Physically he would need to beef up a lot. Artistically, his "type" would require quite a different story. I'd watch it. But I am becoming more a Landmark viewer than AMC viewer. So my appreciation is not a good sign for ticket sales. I'd say it's a ruse possibly even laid out by the Broccolis. They do that sometimes when a new Bond is imminent.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 19, 2024 10:14 PM |
George Lazenby tried to make out with me.

I'd actually prefer him to Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 19, 2024 10:16 PM |
I became a fan of Josh O'Connor since the British TV series The Durrells. I wasn't aware he was in the running for the next James Bond. Good for him.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 19, 2024 10:26 PM |
R21, me too. Loved him on that show
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 19, 2024 10:32 PM |
I will only watch it if they get Grace Jones to reprise her May Day role.
Robot May Day!

I thought they didn’t want a young Bond.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 19, 2024 10:59 PM |
i fancy Josh a lot and its way more about his acting and presence than his looks. Always thought Charlie Hunnam would be a great follow up to Daniel Craig but now it does seem that a less rugged type will be Bond.

Josh O’Connor doesn’t look like someone who could handle a gun. Or kill anybody. Or have sex with women.

R27 You might want to check the box office receipts. Most successful Bond franchise of all time even accounting for inflation.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 19, 2024 11:59 PM |
This seems like a terrible choice, if its true. Josh O'Connor is wodnerful, but he has never projected suaveness or confidence in anything I've seen, and those are the two crucial parts of James Bond's character.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 20, 2024 12:09 AM |
The obvious choice, but they don't have the guts.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 20, 2024 12:26 AM |
R29, why are conservatives like you so obsessed with trans people? You drag them into every thread

Anyone BUT Paul Mescal. Fucking tired of that generic pasty white boy who desperately needs a shower being in everything.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 20, 2024 12:46 AM |
Daniel Craig should just pass the baton to Drew Starsky.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 20, 2024 12:48 AM |
He’s not sexy at all. But then again neither was Daniel Craig and everybody loved him. I still don’t know how his ugly ass got the role. Josh would be an improvement only because Daniel Craig is the ugliest Bond of all time.

This guy must have a great agent.
There is no way he is bond

by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 20, 2024 2:25 AM |
R29 "why are conservatives like you so obsessed with trans people? You drag them into every thread "
Because it is used as a political wedge issue, like abortion was since the Republicans adopted the cause when Reagan became president in 1981. Before that even hard core conservatives believed it was a personal decision. Strategists felt if they presented the topic as a so-called "right to life" to save unborn children, people will see it as righteous and adopt all the other baggage that comes with the package deal: deregulation for corporations, tax breaks for the rich, even pushing for a Christofascist nationalist agenda. If you buy into any of these, you buy into all of them. Now that SCOTUS has gotten rid of the federal right to choose on abortion, they need another wedge issue. Trans is the newly minted hot button topic.

I'd be happy for Regé-Jean Page to take a stab at Bond. But I'm not sure what his deal is. He hasn't been terribly busy after Bridgerton. Last year I read that he would get the lead in The Saint movie which would have been perfect for him. But I haven't heard anything since then.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 20, 2024 5:19 AM |
I'm not sure O'Connor would work. He's a wonderful actor but his best roles have been quite "intimate". Like Mescal whose best roles have also been very "intimate", I'm not sure O'Connor would look right in a big action movie. Mescal was a disaster in Gladiator 2.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 20, 2024 5:23 AM |
R42 RJP pretty much got black-listed like Monique did for being an ungrateful cunt. After Bridgerton put his name on the map, he refused to be in the second season if it meant he’d be a supporting character. It left a bad taste in peoples mouth. Shonda was pissed and so was the rest of Hollywood. He thought he was the new shit on the block, turns out, his bad attitude left him with nothing but crumbs. Hence, we haven’t seen him get a big role in anything. Meanwhile, out and proud Jonathan Bailey stays booked and busy while still supporting the Bridgerton series.

There’s an article in the WSJ that says Bond’s future is tied up in a nasty dispute between Amazon and the Broccolis who own various pieces. I can’t read it and archive doesn’t work.

A friend send me excepts:
the relationship between the family that oversees the franchise and the e- commerce giant has all but collapsed. The decaying partnership has scuttled any near-term hope of a new Bond film-a black eye for Amazon's ambitions in Hollywood, since at the time of the MGM sale, the Bond franchise represented a significant share of the $6.5 billion the company paid for the studio.
When it comes to Bond's future, the power lies in the hands of Barbara Broccoli, who inherited the control from her father, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, and who for 30 years has decided when a new Bond movie can go into production. She has told friends she doesn't trust algorithm-centric Amazon with a character she helped to mythologize through big-screen storytelling and gut instinct. This fall, she characterized the status of a new movie in dire terms-no script, no story and
To friends, Broccoli has characterized her thoughts on Amazon this way: "These people are f- idiots."

^“ no script, no story and no new Bond.”
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 20, 2024 3:46 PM |
“ The two sides are at an impasse: Amazon needs Broccoli to furnish them with ideas for a new Bond movie, but Broccoli doesn't want to make a new Bond movie with Amazon. The standoff, say people on both sides of the divide, boils down to a clash between the 20th-century Hollywood of big screens and big swings and a new entertainment industry ruled by Silicon Valley firms that prize data, algorithms and streaming subscriptions.”
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 20, 2024 3:47 PM |
I figured that was why Aaron Taylor Johnson walked away. Because Amazon wanted a tv series or day and date releases.
Again the confirms my suspicions that Jennifer Salke is possibly the worst executive in Hollywood history since, well, Bob Chapek.

There’s a rumor he’s been cast by Marvel though

“ Broccoli was irked in one early meeting when [the Amazon executive in charge of the relationship] referred to James Bond by a dreaded word: "content." Using such a sterile term, one friend reflected, was like a "death knell" to Broccoli.
Go Barbara!

“ Wilson, her stepbrother, has complained to friends that he couldn't land a meeting with anyone at Amazon above an "L6," the internal designation for a senior role that is nonetheless six rungs below Chief Executive Andy Jassy, an L12. A person close to the company said Wilson has met with several senior leaders.”

by Anonymous | reply 77 | December 20, 2024 10:13 PM |
I can see why the Broccolis would react cooly to prospects of collaborating with Amazon. Thanks to their studio buyout, Amazon with it's fairly miserable record of production of film and TV series has the hand with the money in it - but not a lot of taste or record of letting producers and directors have the autonomy needed to make a film that doesn't seem a committee effort.
This list of 22 of Amazon's top original films has a few good titles: Manchester by the Sea; Saltburn; and Sound of Metal, for example. Mostly it has mediocre fare on the level of the Hallmark channel.. I could be more happy for the quantity churned out if the efforts that had some promise of quality were not so few Amazon as producer is the ugly atep-daughter whose mother married a rich vulgarian late in life.
