The best way to troll Trump is to keep saying that Elon Musk is the real Presiden

Elon Musk, “a guy who’s never received a single vote, who is constitutionally ineligible to serve as actual president, who polling shows isn’t wanted there by the American people” is now “effectively running the United States,” Chris Hayes said Wednesday night, and “the American people are paying zero attention to this.”

Musk has essentially “bought himself control” over the country, Hayes began. “Apparently, he spent $44 billion to turn Twitter into his personal propaganda outfit and promote Donald Trump, and then he went on to spend a quarter of a billion dollars to help get Trump elected.”

Tuesday night House Republicans laid out a short-term plan to avoid an end-of-the-year government shutdown. That plan was rejected by Trump and JD Vance Wednesday, hours after Musk himself rejected the plan the night before (and he continued to rail against it throughout the following day).

Congressional Republicans “apparently forgot to ask Elon Musk” about the bill before doing their job and passing it, Hayes continued. “I don’t think Musk has any idea what is actually in the bill. In fact, I feel quite certain that he urged his followers to use AI to summarize it for him, but he still spent the day whipping votes against it to his hundreds of millions of followers on the social media platform he owns.”

“He tweeted more than 70 times against the deal to keep the government open,” Hayes added. It was only then that Trump and Vance interjected their own stance about the deal, and the end result is that “House Republicans certainly who they are taking their marching orders from” — the aforementioned “guy who’s never received a single vote.”

Not to be outdone by himself, it appears Musk’s preference is the government is shut down until Trump is sworn in Jan. 20, Hayes later said. After an X account by the name of @WallStreetMav wrote, “Just close down the govt until January 20th. Defund everything. We will be fine for 33 days,” on the platform, Musk shared the original message and added a simple, “YES.”

by Anonymousreply 7December 19, 2024 3:33 PM

Trump minds. He is lazy, and he is unintelligent, and ignorant about government, etc. but he minds. He wants credit for everything and he wants to be seen as In Charge. His ego will not allow him to credit Musk. He was grateful to Musk helping with the election. But it's just about run its course.

by Anonymousreply 12December 19, 2024 4:07 PM

OP, the world is simply not big enough for two egos THAT huge and THAT thin-skinned. It's merely a question of when.

Trump may be temporarily enamored by Elon – and he's not quite crazy enough to criticize the world's richest man even in the least just yet – but Elon's Eve Harrington aspirations will likely be cut by one of the few men on Earth more desperation for attention than him. Speaking of Eve Harringtons, I can think of one who's definitely NOT pleased with the "First Buddy": JD Vance, who's seemingly vanished 95% of the time since Election Day.

Once Elon goes too far in assuming the spotlight, that's when he'll be swiftly cut off. This'll likely be Trump's most savage breakup since Ivana!

by Anonymousreply 13December 19, 2024 4:22 PM

yep, this is a brilliant strategy. Let's keep focused on Musk running the show. It will drive Trump nuts.

I LOVE how they're already turning on each other. Mike Johnson has sucked Trump's dick since before the 2020 election and carried his water through this one. And at his first opportunity, Trump turned on Johnson and is setting him up for public humiliation - first by shaming his managing the spending bill and then allowing House members to call for Johnson's ousting.

This will happen to absolutely everyone in Trump's orbit. And it will be glorious to watch.

He might have met his match in Musk, though. Musk, like Trump, is immune to shame. So he won't scurry into a corner after Trump tries to take him down. He'll fight back and he might win. It's going to be a dark, crazy four years, but I'm looking forward to them all ripping each other to shreds.

by Anonymousreply 14December 19, 2024 4:46 PM

Musk and Putin are BFFs. I suspect at some point Donnie is gonna call Putin to complain and whine about Leon, and Putin will placate him and tell him to try to get along. After that Putin may not take Donnie's calls unless he needs to keep Donnie in place to deal with Ukraine. If Donnie doesn't deal effectively with Ukraine he's gonna get sick and die from a spoiled Big Mac. You know, Leon has a lot of issues. But even he, being a billionaire, would have to know that Russia is in real bad shape, and Putin is on his last leg.

"The best way to troll trump and mount the charge for 2028 is to remind everyone that trump is a criminal, a Nazi, and a threat to democracy.

I believe they did, but it fell on deaf ears. Poor Americans were greatly suffering because the cost of a 32 ounce bag of Doritos went up to $6.99. And Germans during the Weimar Republic thought they had it bad and that inflation was out of control!!!

And there's no need to remind Americans that Trump is a criminal, a Nazi and a threat to democracy. 80 million Americans don't care if he's a criminal or a Nazi, because they themselves have criminal tendencies and/or Nazi sympathies. A threat to democracy? That's too nebulous of a concept for Americans to grasp. Besides, Americans only pay lip service to democracy and Christianity.

r57 Elon is not a cool best friend. He somehow convinced Trump that he swung the election for him. I don't know if he did or not. But, Musk acted like he did.

When Trump tried to shake him by saying they couldn't get rid of Musk at Mar-a-Lago. The WaPo published some dirty tricks Musk pulled with microtargeted internet-only ads. Then Musk tweeted that Trump knew how much Musk had helped and that Trump would do what he told him.

Trump just let it go.

by Anonymousreply 68December 20, 2024 4:02 AM

Let me assure you that J.D. does have balls.

by Anonymousreply 69December 20, 2024 4:03 AM

It’s a wonderful dilemma. Somebody to whom you owe many millions of dollars, kind of, inserts himself into every aspect of the decision-making you should be responsible for in a position you alone will hold and he won’t leave.

If you seriously try to get rid of him the best outcome is that he might take all his online followers and money with him. The worst is if he actively turned on you.

But you basically agree politically. It’s just that he’s taking credit for decisions which should be yours and people may be laughing at you and you can’t start lawsuits against all of them.

Your wife won’t live with you. You don’t know how many Luigi Mangiones are still out there, assembling their ghost guns. Maybe just leave it all to the guy. You’re not long for this world and he can’t outright grab the mike when you give the state of the union address. You get to go to parades and stuff. Who gives a shit anyway. Let him have it.

by Anonymousreply 70December 20, 2024 4:12 PM

Trump doesn't care about running the country. I agree. But he definitely cares about getting credit for it and being acknowledged for his powerful position. In his first term, anyone who got too much publicity and too much credit found their way out the door in a hurry. Apparently Musk "donated $150 Million in the final weeks of the campaign and it was very much needed. He used his own "methods" to generate voter turn out in the swing states. As far as Elon is concerned, he bought the President.

by Anonymousreply 71December 20, 2024 5:52 PM

[quote]Could Elon have something on Donald either financially or just embarrassing? Or is Donnie just desperate for a cool best friend?

The DOJ sure as fuck as something on Dump financially: him conning the IRS to the tune of $400 million, as detailed by the NYT 7-8 years ago. Also, even if Elon did, Trump has full control of MAGA. When he decrees that someone must be outcast, it is done, and usually instantly.

I think they're mutually attracted (non-sexually, that is) to the other's braggadocio: Trump's enamored with Elon's money, and Elon's enamored with Trump's personality cult. (Elon has his own as well, but it's far smaller.) But, again, this bromance is as doomed as Romeo & Juliet.

by Anonymousreply 81December 20, 2024 11:49 PM

[quote] Elon Musk downplayed his influence after Democrats started calling him 'President Musk'

Elon Musk has tried to downplay his influence in helping tank a government funding bill after Democrats started referring to him as "President Musk."

In a series of X posts on Thursday night, Musk tried to distance himself from Democrats' claims that he is now the de facto leader of the Republican Party.

Musk, who will co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency under President-elect Donald Trump, had criticized the first version of the spending bill earlier this week, calling for it to be "killed."

A revised spending bill that he helped push then failed to get enough votes, potentially setting the stage for a government shutdown.

"Objectively, the vast majority of Republican House members voted for the spending bill, but only 2 Democrats did," Musk wrote in response. "Therefore, if the government shuts down, it is obviously the fault of @RepJeffries and the Democratic Party."

Before the vote, Musk had posted: "First of all, I'm not the author of this proposal. Credit to @realDonaldTrump, @JDVance & @SpeakerJohnson."

All but 38 House Republicans voted for the revised bill, but it fell short of the two-thirds majority required to extend government funding until March.

Democrats seized on the opportunity to embarrass Trump by portraying him as a subordinate of Musk.

Rep. Brendan Boyle of Pennsylvania said, "The leader of the GOP is Elon Musk," adding, "He's now calling the shots."

Rep. Greg Casar of Texas asked if Musk was "kind of cosplaying co-President here," adding, "I don't know why Trump doesn't just hand him the Oval Office."

Meanwhile, Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, the top Democratic member on the House Appropriations Committee, said Republicans "got scared" because "President Musk said: 'Don't do it — shut the government down.'"

Others also weighed in.

"Welcome to the Elon Musk presidency," Rep. Robert Garcia of California said in a post on Thursday.

"It's clear who's in charge, and it's not President-elect Donald Trump," Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington added.

After Thursday's vote, Musk reacted favorably to a post that said the reason Democrats keep saying "President" Elon Musk was to "drive a wedge" between him and Trump.

Charlie Sykes, a political commentator and the author of "How the Right Lost Its Mind," wrote that Musk had committed two cardinal sins: "upstaging" Trump and being responsible for an "embarrassing defeat."

"Trump must absolutely hate the whole President Musk thing," he said.

by Anonymousreply 87December 21, 2024 9:08 PM

'President Musk' is likely to become ever more embedded as a first thought, not least due to the monosyllabic and vowel similarity. Slightly distracted broadcasters are bound to make the slip, the clips will go joyously viral, the term will solidify. Sub-President Trump will blunderingly try to push back, deepening the dysfunctional dynamic.

Magazine covers and cartoons will also go to town on said dynamic, images obviously having an instant impact. The looming controlling richer younger man, smilingly lording it over a fat spray-tanned old vulgarian. No malignant narcissist would long tolerate such a view establishing itself.

Trump is entering as a lame duck. Any Senator not up for re election in 2:years has little to fear. Some Representatives who can be hurt are also fighting him. The real tea party types will oppose him because Trump believes in big deficits., And Musk threatening people will backfire big time., it’s nuts because Dems usually fight hard to raise the debt ceiling which was Trump’s big concern. It’s actually pretty funny.

These fuckers want to take us back to the 1800's. And the Media is helping them. Joe Manchin, that rotten filthy pig was on TV talking about how terrible the Democratic Party is now and telling why he left, and that fucker actually said the Dems lost there way "always telling people what they can and can't do!" The hypocrisy is unbelievable. Last time I looked, it wasn't the Dems blocking Reproductive freedom, or Gay Marriage, or gerrymandering and setting up obstacles to people being able to vote. Actually the Republicans and people like Manchin aren't talking about us when they complain about a lack of freedom. They will ban books, and erase education about American history, and do everything they can to make our lives smaller and more narrow, and more "Christian." But they want complete deregulation for their corporate buddies.

The double standards for rich white men will not end. I work with government and had a conversation with a former employee about a clearance/suitability process. She had been denied for a grants job because she admitted to a single use of cocaine. Whereas Musk’s drug use is publicly reported.

by Anonymousreply 102December 22, 2024 4:06 PM

You mean they told you they were bounced because of an honest one time admit to cocaine use. They normally do not broadcast to people reasons why they did not get hired or given a grant. To do so would be stupid.

I do believe that she did not get the gig. And I believe the cocaine. I doubt there is a connection. I know far too many involved in clearances and such.

That story does not hold water R102 although she may believe that.

[quote]Whereas Musk’s drug use is publicly reported.

He smoked weed on video. It's still illegal on the federal level, so that's enough to not get a clearance.

by Anonymousreply 104December 22, 2024 5:21 PM

One perk of being potus is that you can give TS clearances to anyone you want . But he can’t do that until he is sworn in,

by Anonymousreply 105December 22, 2024 5:26 PM

R103, you don’t know half of what you think you know. She was submitted for an agency suitability, which doesn’t normally have the investigation associated with a security clearance. In fact, the letter denying suitability states the reasons. A few weeks later, she sailed right through a clearance because she could mitigate. Thanks for your opinion on someone you know literally zero about.

What is wrong with Chris Hayes’ eyes?

Weird. I always thought calling them weird was going to lead to a Harris win.

by Anonymousreply 109December 22, 2024 5:36 PM

Musk is going to be stuck to Trump like shit on the bottom of his shoe.

I'm just waiting for the upcoming breakup. I think that's gonna be epic.

Who'll get Melania?

[quote]Rep. Greg Casar of Texas asked if Musk was "kind of cosplaying co-President here," adding, "I don't know why Trump doesn't just hand him the Oval Office."

This is practically burying the lede: guess which decidedly leftist congressman – just elected for his second House term, with assistance each time from none other than AOC herself – controls the district where Elmo decided to plop all of his Austin-area operations?

[quote]And the Media is helping them. Joe Manchin, that rotten filthy pig was on TV talking about how terrible the Democratic Party is now and telling why he left, and that fucker actually said the Dems lost there way "always telling people what they can and can't do!" The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

R100, where did you see this, specifically? If it's Faux News, you may as well shut your maw. OF COURSE they're gonna do anything & everything to make Dems look bad. If it was on one of the Sunday morning shows, those have long been more bipartisan. And sorry, but the media isn't "helping" anyone: as I tried to point out every time someone made that Chicken Little-esque comment before the election, Repugs are similarly "convinced" the media is "out to get Trump."

You're all mistaken.

They're still doing it today. Below is a WSJ article, written by a news analyst but definitely on the "news" side versus "opinion." In case it's paywalled, the headline reads, "The Week The GOP's High Hopes Collided With Reality," and despite merely commenting on events as they occurred – 38 Repugs rebelled against Trump wanting a debt-limit increase, and Johnson breaking up the reconciliation bill into multiple pieces – this is the top comment about it, and since a female journalist wrote it, of course that's where they had to start (bc of the gushing out their hoohahs & all that):

"As usual Molly Ball regurgitates Dem propaganda as she did in the infamous Time Mag article (2/4/2021), where she boasted how a Dem cabal rigged—or 'saved', depending on point of view—the 2020 election. In this 12/21/24 WSJ article, Ball writes: 'Democrats pointed out that…'; 'rude shock and reality check for GOP'; 'internal contradictions plaguing Trump’s Republicans'. Like most of the 'reporting,' this is all editorializing. In the Time Mag article, Ball was reporting as an insider of the Dem cabal. All her “reporting” belongs on the Editorial page—of the NYT or WAPO."

And in a sub-comment:

"I have written similar remarks about the sacred Molly Ball and was censored repeatedly by this paper. The paper's suppression of their readership may have retreated with the election of someone that promotes and truly believes in free speech."

I'm sorry, R100, but you're being as irrationally hysterical as the WSJ idiots here. There is no "plot." (On either side.) It should be in no way whatsoever surprising that Joe Manchin is criticizing the party he's about to exit. A media outlet merely allowing him to state his reasons for not running for reelection is not "treason," at least here in the reality-based world.

At worst, the media's guilty of one "crime": now that they're just as much at the mercy of ad clicks as every other online publishing site, all of the MSM trends much more towards articles like the WSJ one that are accurate but nonetheless intentionally crafted clickbait.

Musk's drug use has been reported, but you suggesting that prescribed ketamine is somehow on par with blow is more than a bit much. Yes, obviously all or nearly all rich people get away with an absurd number of double standards – particularly, but necessarily, if they're both male & white – but I also work with government (albeit more in an analyst capacity) and have seen people of every race & gender shitcanned for failing a drug test or something stupid. This is also why I don't work *in* government: I'd never work anywhere that requires a drug test in the first place. Still, this is a classist argument, and I won't deny that government workers are hugely overworked AND underpaid and STILL have to put up with this type of fuckery, all while a conviction felon is about to once again serve as leader of the free world.

Your poor, poor keyboard, r117!

by Anonymousreply 118December 22, 2024 10:06 PM

R100 here. I may have read it on line from the AP wire. I also think he was interviewed and told a CNN person that.

by Anonymousreply 119December 22, 2024 11:05 PM

R117, you find comparing ketamine use a “bit much” because you made it all up. Musk has been wideky reported doing drugs with Tesla’s board.

You can tell Trump is getting upset about Musk, because he spoke about it at his rally last night. The marginalizing process has begun. He said Musk was a great supporter of his and helped him during the campaign. Pretty soon he's gonna forget Musk's name.

by Anonymousreply 122December 23, 2024 3:42 AM

The best way to troll Trump would have been to take a billion dollars of support and beat him in the elections. Winning the WH would have been a great troll. The Senate would have been great. Even the House.

Rather than winning calling names is a great 4th choice.
