Aaron Rodgers says he 'Didn't Do Myself Any Favors with Some of the Girls I Dated'

In a new Netflix docuseries about Aaron Rodgers, the NFL quarterback laments how fame impacted his life and says the women he dated throughout his career contributed to his celebrity.

PEOPLE previewed Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, which begins streaming today, and its three installments largely focus on Rodgers’ career trajectory and his recent controversies — including his misleading and at-times false statements about vaccines and floating conspiracy theories.

During the second episode of the series, Rodgers, 41, says he "hated" the notoriety that came with winning the Super Bowl in 2010, doing State Farm commercials and winning his first NFL MVP Award in 2011.

“I always find it interesting when people say, in reference to the off-the-field attention, ‘Well, this is what you signed up for,’ “ Rodgers says, as the documentary shows clips of him meeting former President Barack Obama at the White House after winning Super Bowl XLV, appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman and waving to a crowd in a parade at Disney World.

“I say f--- that, I never signed up for that,” Rodgers contends. “I signed up for football because I love the game and I got great at it because I’m hyper-competitive and super-motivated. But there’s this whole other part that comes with it that’s a lot of great stuff and a lot of f---ing weird stuff.”

Rodgers also discusses his reaction to having paparazzi follow him from that point on in his career.

“I didn’t do myself any favors with some of the girls I dated after that that were in the public eye,” he says, as images of his former girlfriends Olivia Munn and Danica Patrick, as well as his ex-fiancée Shailene Woodley, flash on the screen.

“I definitely hated it at first – like, really despised it,” Rodgers says about fame. “I enjoyed my private life. I enjoyed being able to go places. But from Super Bowl MVP, MVP, State Farm commercials, that got a little bit more difficult.”

Rodgers dated Munn, 44, from 2014 until the couple split in 2017. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback then began dating Patrick, the 42-year-old retired NASCAR star, from 2018 until they called it quits in 2020. Rodgers began dating Woodley, 33, in late 2020 before the couple announced their engagement in 2021. But Rodgers and Woodley called off their plans to marry a year later.

PEOPLE reported at the time that Rodgers and Woodley had an “amicable” split, while the NFL star later took to Instagram to “thank” the Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress for their time together.

Woodley opened up about the couple’s breakup earlier this month when she told Outside magazine: “I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry.”

"It was not right,” Woodley added. “But it was beautiful.”

What about the BOYS you dated, Aaron?

by Anonymousreply 1December 18, 2024 6:28 AM

Made the girls cry?

by Anonymousreply 2December 18, 2024 6:40 AM

Just keep looking Aaron!

The right girl will show up when it's God's plan.

by Anonymousreply 3December 18, 2024 6:51 AM

Faygeleh!

by Anonymousreply 4December 18, 2024 6:54 AM

He looks haggard. All these unsupportive women just wore him out.

by Anonymousreply 5December 18, 2024 7:03 AM

He seemed happy dating the boys.

The cheese is old - discard.

by Anonymousreply 7December 18, 2024 7:36 AM

Did I ever mention that I'm allergic to fish?

by Anonymousreply 8December 18, 2024 11:48 AM

Lots of coded language in that article:

[quote] I didn’t do myself any favors with some of the girls I dated

[quote] I enjoyed my private life

[quote] "I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry. It was not right,” Woodley added

It's pretty clear that Aaron is gay.

And by the way, Aaron. If you really and truly value your privacy, maybe you shouldn't do a DOCUSERIES on Netflix.

Moron.

Translation: “I enjoyed my gay life until I became so famous I had to date girls because everyone was finding out I was into guys, so I hooked up with OBVIOUS professional beard Munn, then Danica the Manica, then another beard Shailene. It was awful. Now it has made me certifiably insane.”

by Anonymousreply 10December 18, 2024 12:02 PM

If he hates fame and notoriety so much why does he never seem to shut the fuck up, including this documentary?

by Anonymousreply 11December 18, 2024 12:51 PM

Talking about all his girlfriends. Is there such a thing as reverse self gaslighting?

by Anonymousreply 12December 18, 2024 1:32 PM

His money goes to keeping his boy toys quiet. I'd love to see his NDAs.

by Anonymousreply 13December 18, 2024 1:47 PM

Is anyone honestly interested in this closet case?

by Anonymousreply 14December 18, 2024 1:51 PM

Not now, he’s getting his NDA polished.

by Anonymousreply 15December 18, 2024 1:51 PM

[quote] Is anyone honestly interested in this closet case?

Yes! Me. I'm not most people either. I don't know much about him or football but I'm into this documentary. The passion for his sport, the determination. He's soft spoken and thoughtful. The man is proof men can really age into their looks. I think I understand the spiritual quest too.. he want to find his true self and deeper meaning. *swoon*

by Anonymousreply 16December 18, 2024 2:42 PM

I'll be watching!

And I agree with you, R16.

*swoon*

Aged into his looks if aging rapidly for his age into a grizzled smelly looking homeless man would.

by Anonymousreply 18December 18, 2024 2:54 PM

He went on and on about the State Farm commercials that he did, but no one made him do them. His greedy self wanted the money

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

by Anonymousreply 19December 18, 2024 2:59 PM

I would so do him. I'm not picky, you see.

by Anonymousreply 20December 18, 2024 3:00 PM

Exactly, R19.

And you just know he made BIG BUCKS from this Netflix docuseries.

Aaron's rolling in the dough.

by Anonymousreply 21December 18, 2024 3:01 PM

This is America! It's greedy to make money? I mean, ok...he doesn't totally cop to having accepted high profile deals when getting into fame problems. Maybe that's all part of the job.

by Anonymousreply 22December 18, 2024 3:09 PM

I hope my conclusion is correct, that DL keeps posting these Aaron Rodgers threads because of the schadenfreude and not aching loins instead.

The irony of his situation vs. what he says he wants reminds me of South Park’s take on Harry&Meghan and their “Worldwide Privacy Tour”.

by Anonymousreply 23December 18, 2024 3:15 PM

I was kind of feeling some of what he was saying. I like the effort, that he wants to be somebody beyond football. I guess that's kind of risible to some sports fans... aka 'shut up and play'

by Anonymousreply 24December 18, 2024 3:39 PM

He's not aging well and getting the face he deserves.

by Anonymousreply 25December 18, 2024 3:50 PM

All 3 of these women are just suspicious - Danica Patrick seems to be a closeted lesbian. She married quickly when she started to become famous to her much older physical therapist.

Not sure how he met Olivia Munn and Shailene - he never talks about how he meets these women, particularly during the pandemic. And those relationships were absurd - total media opportunities.

I hate this guy - he's a dumb jock with some serious mental issues. I'm not watching this PR puff piece to make him look better after he has said some of the stupidest shit ever.

by Anonymousreply 26December 18, 2024 3:51 PM

His flaw is that he lived for years being told and demonstrating that he is an elite athlete, which is something, and eventually highly lucrative. But nobody has convinced him he is a mediocre intellect at best and also has zero critical information literacy. He believes in tin hat nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 27December 18, 2024 3:53 PM

The girlfriends drew the line at fisting him.

by Anonymousreply 28December 18, 2024 4:12 PM

I rejoice in your pain, Aaron.

by Anonymousreply 29December 18, 2024 4:17 PM

I'm watching this documentary now. It's really very good, and he's not the bad guy that people think he is. He's constantly questioning himself and exploring spiritual beliefs. I do get the impression that he can't quite be himself and he's afraid of the judgment and being shamed. I don't know anything about football really, but I know who is from when he was on Jeopardy and I thought he was interesting.

by Anonymousreply 30December 18, 2024 4:29 PM

Some of these douchebros have also dabbled in the homosex, but settled down with a frau. On some level, they probably know he's talking about his beards but view this as him being strong and triumphant over his gay urges. Joe Rogan is another that was rumored to have dipped a toe into the mansex pond.

by Anonymousreply 31December 18, 2024 4:55 PM

R10 😂 Drops mic.

by Anonymousreply 32December 18, 2024 5:21 PM

[quote] And by the way, Aaron. If you really and truly value your privacy, maybe you shouldn't do a DOCUSERIES on Netflix.

I wholeheartedly agree with ONLY this part of r9's assessment. The docuseries and showing up on high-profile podcasts doesn't help him maintain his privacy.

by Anonymousreply 33December 18, 2024 5:28 PM

His clubbed, fungi ridden toenails gross me the fuck out.

by Anonymousreply 34December 18, 2024 6:17 PM

I know he's anti- vax, but by the looks of him there probably isn't room for another virus in that body so he'll be ok.

by Anonymousreply 35December 18, 2024 6:24 PM

Girl, just come out already! You know, I know it, we all know it. When I finally woke up to the truth I dropped the beards, quit The Bachelor, came out and then married the first guy I could find. Then we had a baby named Bishop and I became a professional parenting podcaster.

by Anonymousreply 36December 18, 2024 6:29 PM

Oh hell yes Aaron is gay gay gay and bitter he can't live his authentic life.

by Anonymousreply 37December 18, 2024 6:32 PM

You can see the sadness in those eyes. You're already filthy rich, just come out and live your life in happiness.

by Anonymousreply 38December 18, 2024 6:37 PM

He looks too much like Nicolas Cage. That's why I never found him hot. Also, bug eyes are never attractive on anyone.

Footballers aren't really expected think about much. I will watch episode 3 to see how lost he got. He could be a little self-styled on the intellect front but I respect he has some curiosity about the world.

by Anonymousreply 40December 18, 2024 7:13 PM

What kind of imbecile would watch this? I couldn't get past 10 mins before downvoting. Fuck off Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 41December 18, 2024 8:46 PM

Netflix got a lot of streaming numbers with previous football centered documentaries. They figured since Aaron is conspiracy theorist loon there would be enough curious people that would tune in.

I also wonder if Jets fans who knew people who died in 9/11 are counting down the days until Aaron is gone from their team.

by Anonymousreply 42December 18, 2024 9:01 PM

Well, it's obvious he needs money. His career ain't working out...

by Anonymousreply 43December 18, 2024 9:47 PM

[quote] I do get the impression that he can't quite be himself and he's afraid of the judgment and being shamed

And we all know why.

by Anonymousreply 44December 18, 2024 11:29 PM

People like this fruit are why we aren’t more accepted and seen as more diverse. Big, successful NFL football player is gay. That spits in the face of many stereotypes. And we were also denied another Aaron! Hernandez! Talk about an alpha dominant tough guy who was gay, but could never lay out and proud.

by Anonymousreply 45December 18, 2024 11:33 PM

Who do you think he fantasizes about? Lady G? Bobby Trendy? That guy he dumped horribly?

by Anonymousreply 46December 18, 2024 11:39 PM

R45 *play out and proud

by Anonymousreply 47December 18, 2024 11:43 PM

For a guy that spends a lot of time with his hands between another man's legs, one would think that he would freaking loosen up.

by Anonymousreply 48December 18, 2024 11:44 PM

Jerkin, suckin, f***in you just know he loves it ALL

by Anonymousreply 49December 19, 2024 12:15 AM

The third episode is less focused than the first two. I like he's a good mentor, a better mentor. Stand up guy. We get little on why he lied about being immunized. Maybe less said is better but I'm wondering... does he regret doing that? Was it a big problem? Would he have done anything differently? Because elsewhere there's stuff about speaking your mind and finding yourself. Not really a deep dive on this point.

His explanation of money was solid: generational wealth, helping people he cares about, supporting causes he likes. What's going on with the next generation? Perhaps life is a mystery. No idea what the future holds for him. He might not know yet. There's the idea he has a year or two of pro play left. He didn't sound especially interested in politics. Is VP a role for someone with no political experience? I don't even know what the man eats. He remains enigmatic.

by Anonymousreply 50December 19, 2024 3:49 PM

"We get little on why he lied about being immunized. Maybe less said is better but I'm wondering... does he regret doing that? Was it a big problem?"

Of course he doesn't regret doing it, and YES, it was a big problem. He put his coach and his teammates in an impossible situation during what was already an incredibly stressful time. So, so glad we got rid of him, and that LaFleur & Co. can now concentrate on football. #GoPackGo

by Anonymousreply 51December 19, 2024 4:32 PM

It's odd how he got injured at more than one critical moment. You couldn't say his career was a walk in the park.

He was recently connected to Mallory Edens. A quick google reveals daughter of Milwaukee Bucks co-owner, 28 and really into sports. People want something from him. It could be really hard to date. Maybe he's good with how his life is.

R30 believes every press piece and PR fluff served to him.

I'm embarrassed for you that you wrote that post. You do realize this documentary is a hail Mary to save his reputation which is rightfully in the gutter because of his weird and shitty behavior the past few years?

Or are you anti-vaccine as well?

by Anonymousreply 53December 19, 2024 5:07 PM

[quote] His explanation of money was solid: generational wealth

Generational wealth?

He has no wife. He has no kids.

He's GAY.

So unless he finds a boyfriend fast I don't think he's having kids any time soon.

by Anonymousreply 54December 19, 2024 5:45 PM

I did follow that line with 'What's going on with the next generation?'. I'm wondering. There was that thread a few days back about the single gay dad in Miami who had twins at 57.

by Anonymousreply 55December 19, 2024 6:01 PM

Rodgers will probably marry a beard and have kids via artificial insemination. He'll try to make himself out to be the "retired football player" version of Derek Jeter and will claim that "he felt it was better to have a family after a sports career".

by Anonymousreply 56December 19, 2024 7:34 PM

I wonder if he has a hairy ass?

by Anonymousreply 57December 19, 2024 7:41 PM

"Rodgers will probably marry a beard and have kids via artificial insemination."

I could see him going all "Mosquito Coast" and dragging his poor spouse and kids into the jungle to "live authentically". I pray that he remains childless.

by Anonymousreply 58December 19, 2024 8:44 PM

Dated is a funny word

by Anonymousreply 59December 19, 2024 8:45 PM

Well, no, Aaron you didn't do yourself any favors because we all know that you wanted to date men!!!!

by Anonymousreply 60December 19, 2024 8:47 PM

Understanding Aaron, my latest. It says he's a Type 1 Diabetic. He's expressed some distrust and distaste of big pharma. That would do it, wouldn't it? When you see what Americans have dealt with on Insulin prices, dislike the medical establishment follows. Between the religious upbringing and that you have some skepticism. He might even be a Luigi-ette.

by Anonymousreply 61December 21, 2024 3:07 PM

RFK Jr is right about the American food system but he might be a bad influence.

by Anonymousreply 62December 21, 2024 3:16 PM

How many more years can be play? He's already suffered major injuries and injuries won't heal any faster as he ages.

by Anonymousreply 63December 21, 2024 3:32 PM

I don't know how it works but looks like he's under contract to play 2025 at least. ??

by Anonymousreply 64December 21, 2024 3:34 PM

[quote] it’s clear from the start that we’re going to learn only about the parts of Aaron Rodgers’s personal life that Aaron Rodgers wants us to know about. It’s very first person and leaves little room for substantive criticism or context.

I felt this too. You don't hear from his family and the interviews solely focus on his game and career.

R61 - stop defending this idiot. He said Sandy Hook was a government inside job. He called Jimmy Kimmel a pedophile. He's anti-sunscreen and thinks it's a scam.

He's anti COVID vaccine. He bragged about taking a 4 day 'darkness retreat' where he would isolate and eat once a day - but that he may film it. WHAT? He doesn't 'believe in 9/11".

He's fucking crazy and thinks he's a 'critical thinker'. Dumb football jock who craves attention and then complains when it doesn't all go his way.

Look - he can't go on all of these podcasts and interviews and complain about how people are perceiving him. He's doing this to himself - he has no contractual obligation to do these interviews with these weirdos and sports podcasters.

I don't give a fuck if he has Diabetes - he's an asshole.
