I think these kinds of things are tedious; I liked the discussions involving directors about the creative choices they made, what worked - what didn't, hassles they ran into - but listening to actors talk about their "craft" or "I grew up admiring your work!" #yawn.

by Anonymousreply 1December 20, 2024 12:14 AM

Couldn't agree mor OP

by Anonymousreply 2December 20, 2024 12:30 AM

Enough with narcissists talking to narcissists.

by Anonymousreply 3December 20, 2024 12:31 AM

Love Colman Domingo!

by Anonymousreply 4December 20, 2024 12:32 AM

They forgot to invite Adam Driver?

by Anonymousreply 5December 20, 2024 1:57 AM

How'd Paul Mescal get in?

by Anonymousreply 6December 20, 2024 3:39 AM

R1 why watch and comment then. The only thing tedious here is you.

by Anonymousreply 7December 20, 2024 3:41 AM

I can't stand Colman Domingo. He's so fake.

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2024 3:47 AM

Question: Do you all think a young Leo could have pulled off a Gladiator type role like Paul does here. A friend and I had a huge debate about this.

by Anonymousreply 9December 20, 2024 3:56 AM

Paul didn't pull it off.

by Anonymousreply 10December 20, 2024 3:58 AM

I only watched a bit of this. Not interested in hearing Stan talk about Trump. The LA Times male round table was pretty insufferable. Didn’t make it through that either.

Variety is doing some good interviews. The Directors on Directors interview with Sean Baker and Brady Corbet is really good. I could listen to Brady Corbet talk about film all day long - he’s so passionate and knowledgeable.

by Anonymousreply 11December 20, 2024 5:37 AM

R6: Strange considering there's been more of a marketing push for A Complete Unknown than Moana, Mufasa, and Gladiator combined.

by Anonymousreply 12December 20, 2024 5:41 AM

R11 It’s not propaganda. He talks very candidly about his approach to the role and how intimidating it was. You can tell he is a liberal. I would bet they all are.

A friend and I had a huge debate about this.

Was there any hair pulling?

by Anonymousreply 14December 20, 2024 6:05 AM

Colman Domingo? Wasn't he just nominated for another thing no one watched that's probably a fucking tv movie

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2024 6:53 AM

R15: Couldn't disagree with you more. He was excellent as Bayard Rustin in RUSTIN.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2024 1:45 PM

But the film wasn’t great. Neither is Sing Sing.

by Anonymousreply 17December 20, 2024 4:34 PM

R13, what part of “Not interested in hearing Sebastian Stan talk about Trump” do you not understand?

by Anonymousreply 18December 20, 2024 4:36 PM

Glad to see Adrian Brody back in the Big Leagues. The last time I saw him he was in some absolutely terrible series on a lesser known Stephen King story. I know he was also in that recent Wes Anderson movie, but the role was small

by Anonymousreply 19December 21, 2024 11:24 AM

Remember when there was just the Newsweek Roundtable?

There are way too many backslapping events. Any wonder audiences don’t care about movie stars any more?

Adrien Brody was the best guest character on Succession that season. You watched Adrien and you watched Alexander Skarsgard and you saw why one was an Oscar winner. He was in a different class altogether.

by Anonymousreply 21December 21, 2024 11:56 AM

Adrien Brody has had to have the worst career amongst any leading actor Oscar winner from the aughts. It’s kinda tragic.

by Anonymousreply 22December 21, 2024 1:55 PM

Adrien Brody is charismatic and is not unattractive - BUT he looks how he looks. So he needs to be cast very specifically, even with regard to arthouse movies. And he never had a huge mainstream box office role to be identified with, so it’s hard to parlay that into leading roles in independent Oscar bait.
