CNN anchor angry that UHC CEO isn't being mourned "like John Lennon, George Floyd"

It’s amazing that they’re able to say this with a straight face.

Insufferable cunt. With that being said if that CEO was black this would be a whole different conversation.

by Anonymousreply 1December 16, 2024 6:42 PM

Never liked that smug Smear-clownish, asshole. He must be a joy to live with. (said no one, ever).

by Anonymousreply 2December 16, 2024 6:48 PM

I'm not entirely surprised given the number of Americans of all stripes who insist they have the world's best healthcare.

Even on DL, this cruel and inexplicable and mutable (only ever in the favor of corporations and their CEOs) system is routinely defended as though it is the best possible system in the world.

So no, it's no longer surprising that in the fucked up U.S., journalists and news anchors are taking time out from their dry eyes toward people who can't "private insure" and instead are shedding years for the CEO and corporate bottom lines.

by Anonymousreply 3December 16, 2024 6:48 PM

Next. Against. The. Wall.

by Anonymousreply 4December 16, 2024 6:50 PM

I don't watch CNN, how often do they have these "commentary" spots?

by Anonymousreply 5December 16, 2024 6:51 PM

I vote we shoot him next and vow to do better.

by Anonymousreply 6December 16, 2024 6:52 PM

He’s such a crank. I catch his daily show on Sirius once in a while. He has the 9am - 12pm slot and he spends probably two hours of that time talking about himself. He’s not a dummy, a bit right-leaning but mostly calls balls and strikes. That video is case in point of how boneheaded he can be, thinking that everyone’s lived experience / class / social status is the same as his. He can talk all day about how Trump got elected because of economic anxieties and people’s feeling of being left behind, yet he plays the naïf incapable of understanding why people shrug their shoulders when a fat cat gets taken out. It’s hollow.

by Anonymousreply 7December 16, 2024 7:11 PM

R5, he had his own CNN show.

by Anonymousreply 8December 16, 2024 7:33 PM

CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, are nothing but commentary.

by Anonymousreply 9December 16, 2024 7:33 PM

[quote]With that being said if that CEO was black this would be a whole different conversation.

If Luigi had been Black, we'd DEFINITELY be having a whole different conversation as well.

by Anonymousreply 10December 16, 2024 7:38 PM

Best not to have one, all the public urination would tie up the court system.

by Anonymousreply 11December 16, 2024 7:40 PM

Meanwhile another school shooting today leaving multiple people dead, but CNN doesn’t say they should be canonized — because they’re not rich guys so they don’t matter.

by Anonymousreply 12December 16, 2024 7:42 PM

I love Michael Smerconish and listen to his daily SiriusXM show. He’s one of the very few popular figures in mainstream media who is level-headed and works hard to be fact based not politically based.

by Anonymousreply 13December 16, 2024 7:54 PM

They did! It was called SantaCon. Very touching.

by Anonymousreply 14December 16, 2024 8:04 PM

r9 I know, but I'm talking about this specific spot using the "commentary" tag on the graphics - are they a regular thing, or is this a one-off?

by Anonymousreply 15December 16, 2024 8:49 PM

R15 if you’re that ignorant to CNN don’t even worry about whether it is or isn’t. Sheesh..

by Anonymousreply 16December 16, 2024 8:51 PM

I’m always fascinated by how tall his head is.

That said, he’s being disingenuous if he claims to see no difference between the CEO and John Lennon. It’s insulting.

by Anonymousreply 17December 16, 2024 9:16 PM

To add, it’s equally ridiculous to compare Floyd to Lennon.

The CEO and Floyd were two men who caused harm to others. In the case of the CEO, A LOT of monetary harm.

Lennon was a beloved artist.

I don’t know who Heather Heying is.

by Anonymousreply 18December 16, 2024 9:21 PM

r16 The fuck is your problem with a basic question?

by Anonymousreply 19December 16, 2024 9:51 PM

Where's the memorial to all the people who've died in mass shootings?

by Anonymousreply 20December 16, 2024 9:53 PM

Talk about a complete inability to read the "room".

by Anonymousreply 21December 16, 2024 9:56 PM

Interesting how the right is being very quiet about this--not immediately rushing to glorify the CEO in this killing.

by Anonymousreply 22December 16, 2024 10:10 PM

Are these “read the room” posts from the same idiot ? They keep appearing. All equally stupid. Reading the room seems to mean anyone who doesn’t jump on this murderous moronic bandwagon everyone will have forgotten about in a few weeks is somehow lacking in social skills.

by Anonymousreply 23December 16, 2024 10:28 PM

I'm tired of watching all these pundits and 250k+ a year media people wag their fingers. Just shut the fuck up already and stop playing dumb.

by Anonymousreply 24December 16, 2024 10:56 PM

R23, I'm the one who used "read the room" @ R21, and I've never used the phrase on here previously. I'm not on a "murderous bandwagon" and think the killing was deplorable. But I'm able to simultaneously think that murder is bad and that there's no need to build a hero's memorial or have national mourning over the death of a CEO of one of the worst health insurance/claim denial companies in the country. The Smerconish clip seems unable to distinguish this CEO from people whose lives added value or who pushed us to be kinder, and he wants us to honor them all equally. (And your instant name-calling shows you might actually be "somehow lacking in social skills". )

by Anonymousreply 25December 17, 2024 12:00 AM

There is no reason to watch CNN I ask the staff at my gym to change the station if CNN or MSNBC is on. I can watch CSPAN

by Anonymousreply 26December 17, 2024 12:30 AM

Fuck the CEO, fuck CNN AND fuck the shooter. All rich cunts with nothing to give to the rest of us but wallowing in our misery. The trust fund baby that cosplayed a disabled poor will spend the rest of his life behind bars getting attention from the same women and men that write love letters to Menendez brothers.

by Anonymousreply 27December 17, 2024 12:37 AM

R25 I don’t think there’s any reason to “read the room” when a murder has occurred. The usual thing for people with social to do is to deplore it. I agree there’s no need to memorialize the victim, but it is normal to feel sympathy for his family and to deplore the creep who did it.

by Anonymousreply 28December 17, 2024 12:38 AM

Where is Smerconjob’s outrage about Jordan Neeley’s murder? Oh, that’s right, Jordan Neeley was the correct race and class to murder.

by Anonymousreply 29December 17, 2024 12:39 AM

Or lke when Madeleine Murray O’Hara was murdered.

by Anonymousreply 30December 17, 2024 12:40 AM

It's nice to know CNN is still virtue signaling to its tens of regular viewers.

by Anonymousreply 31December 17, 2024 12:40 AM

They desperately have to play up Thompson to try and lessen Luigi's popularity and it's so funny to watch their wheels spin because he's given them so little to work with.

by Anonymousreply 32December 17, 2024 12:56 AM

R32. Yeah. Other than killing someone it’s hard to lay anything on him.

by Anonymousreply 33December 17, 2024 1:30 AM

Fifth Avenue Shoot Elect

by Anonymousreply 34December 17, 2024 1:47 AM

Nothing is stopping him from erecting a memorial 🙄.

by Anonymousreply 35December 17, 2024 1:52 AM

Nothing is stopping him from sucking all the corporate cock he wants to consume. Just stop trying to shame all the rest of us plebs to do the same.

by Anonymousreply 36December 17, 2024 1:57 AM

R33 Lol, I mean Thompson has given us so little to work with. He was a father, but so are many scumbags. I'm not finding any positive comments about him in the reports from anyone not employed by his company.

by Anonymousreply 37December 17, 2024 2:11 AM

Yeah. I agree. People I don’t particularly like should be executed without trial. You are really unpleasant. Maybe you should die?

Look, I understand the comfort bandwagons provide to morons—-the sense of belonging, the simplistic guidance in a complicated world—-but could you please find a bandwagon that doesn’t involve murder? You’re making me feel the need to puke

by Anonymousreply 38December 17, 2024 3:36 AM

Hahahahahaha, these losers are so upset that the masses aren't falling in line and sucking up their neolib propaganda for once.

by Anonymousreply 39December 17, 2024 3:48 AM

R13 is deaf.

by Anonymousreply 40December 17, 2024 3:50 AM

Their CEO bosses are scared shitless of Americans rolling out the guillotines for them. They’re forcing their anchors to gaslight the public.

by Anonymousreply 41December 17, 2024 3:51 AM

Even drug dealers get shot sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 42December 17, 2024 3:52 AM

But you ARE a dead Healthcare CEO, Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 43December 17, 2024 3:56 AM

"The CEO and Floyd were two men who caused harm to others. In the case of the CEO, A LOT of monetary harm"

Actually, the CEO caused a lot of physical harm to people. Not sure what George Floyd did in his life, but the cop who offed him would have (and probably had already) hurt someone else---hence the protests. But even if George Floyd was a serial killer, you can't compare that with the casualties of United Healthcare's algorithm claims denial system.

That said, this guy is on crack---neither are like John Lennon.

by Anonymousreply 44December 17, 2024 3:58 AM

"With that being said if that CEO was black this would be a whole different conversation."

"If Luigi had been Black, we'd DEFINITELY be having a whole different conversation as well."

Lol---more class division from the right and the left. People were cheering the shooter before they ever saw a picture of the killer. Sorry to disappoint.

by Anonymousreply 45December 17, 2024 4:01 AM

If no one watched CNN and Fox, they would go away. Stop watching all that garbage. Read a newspaper if you must. Stop playing into the narrative.

by Anonymousreply 46December 17, 2024 4:01 AM

[qupte] Their CEO bosses are scared shitless of Americans rolling out the guillotines for them. They’re forcing their anchors to gaslight the public.

You’re precious. You don’t need shy damn corporations, do you? You harvest your own food, hew your own timber, don’t require a car, and pay for all your medical care out of pocket. You’re a rugged individualist!

by Anonymousreply 47December 17, 2024 4:53 AM

R47 seems really to be convinced that corporate upper management parasites is responsible for creating all of our creature comforts and establishing our current standard of living. And that for profit health insurance somehow benefits the average working person.

by Anonymousreply 48December 17, 2024 5:07 AM

You are not convinced? Are you reality stupid?

by Anonymousreply 49December 17, 2024 5:24 AM

Have they tried reading the room?

by Anonymousreply 50December 17, 2024 5:36 AM

When are they going to release the United Healthcare Christmas party video of Brian Thompson doing his blackface drag version of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”?

by Anonymousreply 51December 17, 2024 5:51 AM

[quote]I'm not entirely surprised given the number of Americans of all stripes who insist they have the world's best healthcare.

??? I’ve never heard anyone insist we have the world’s best healthcare. It’s pretty much universally accepted that we have among the worst.

by Anonymousreply 52December 17, 2024 10:45 AM

[quote]Have they tried reading the room?

Is there a braille version?

by Anonymousreply 53December 17, 2024 10:48 AM

R47 the hapless peasants would all starve to death without the brilliant innovation of holy 'job creators' like brian thompson. we don't no how to do nuffin.

by Anonymousreply 54December 17, 2024 11:49 AM

And CNN continues its descent.

by Anonymousreply 55December 17, 2024 11:53 AM

You can always tell someone's lost the plot when they start saying that you're not allowed to criticise companies if you use any of their products.

by Anonymousreply 56December 17, 2024 12:05 PM

I have to love how some naive libs are just now realizing how even supposedly "left" leaning msm has always been about the capitalistic status quo.

by Anonymousreply 57December 17, 2024 12:18 PM

[quote] no one watched CNN . . .they would go away

We're working on it

by Anonymousreply 58December 17, 2024 12:37 PM

I love this tweet in OP's linked thread:

I'd forgotten about Smerconish. He was one of those second or third string commentators who somehow hustled their way into the spotlight from time to time in the 2000s.

by Anonymousreply 60December 17, 2024 12:42 PM

[quote] I have to love how some naive libs are just now realizing how even supposedly "left" leaning msm has always been about the capitalistic status quo.

Who is saying this? I think you’ve lost the plot.

by Anonymousreply 61December 17, 2024 12:50 PM

[quote]??? I’ve never heard anyone insist we have the world’s best healthcare. It’s pretty much universally accepted that we have among the worst.

Of course it's not the best. In one study it's last among the Top 10 highest income nations. It's 37th in the WHO ranking of 191 nations. And it doesn't fare well by other rankings

But too many of the same low education (and/or Republican) Americans who insist the US is the god-damned greatest country in the world and that every other nation is a miserable primitive shit hole think that the US has the world's best health care system. Even as its approval continues on a steep decline, 44% of of Americans still think it's tip top.

Anderson Cooper started out on reality TV and has now ended up on reality TV.
