My God what a downgrade from Cavill. At least visually.
This is nothing against Corenswet, who is a fantastic looking man. They just made him look stupid.

There were reports two weeks ago that Warner Bros. was very nervous about the trailer, I assumed it was because Gunn was cutting it like a Guardians trailer.
It’s the suit. It looks horrible on film.

The suit is awful R6. It's beyond awful. I can't believe it.

I love Cavill and he is beautiful, even though he let his body get out of control, but he was wrong for Superman.
Superman is a tough character. It's hard to make a Boy Scout interesting in our current climate. I'm willing to give Gunn's take a chance.

This looks awful. Put this franchise away for 20 years. Too many reboots. Too much inconsistency.

It's a stupid complaint about this film.

The original Superman (1978) movie is my favorite among all superhero movies.
They're trying to copy the Reeves esthetic while weaving in some modern day cynicism....like, fuck off.
I get your point, r24, and agree with it with regard to weaving in the Richard Donner aesthetic, but I really don't mind that.
Really, where else should Gunn go to copy, er, excuse me, I mean, pay homage?
My point is that varying Superman approaches have been exhausted. I liked the darkness of "Man of Steel", but wasn't it a box office disappointment?
Gunn wasn't going to re-invent the commercial wheel, and he could've done worse than to "be influenced" by the Donner 1978 Superman.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 19, 2024 10:17 PM |
“Man of Steel” was too dark. It was WB trying to make a dark Christian Nolan esque version of Superman. I think Nolan was even an executive producer.
The movie was dull and boring.
Superman is outdated. Batman is 80 but Batman really captivates a lot of generations cause there were successful films in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000s and people grew up with Batman. Of course there was Lois & Clark and Smallville on the CW but those were TV shows which is where he probably belongs.
Superman hasn’t been successful since the 80s. To me, he’s a t-shirt logo.
I’ve never found him interesting or even his villains.

This is a franchise that died years ago but nobody seems to have noticed.
I don't blame them for trying to squeeze the last dollar from this version but the world has moved on.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 19, 2024 10:21 PM |
R36 But the public finding Superman boring is common knowledge and every director and actor from every Superman reboot over the last 25 years has addressed it.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 19, 2024 10:22 PM |
Batman and Spider-Man always win not just because they are complex and troubled individuals but their villains are just as popular and well fleshed out personalities.

[bold] This was an awful trailer. [/bold] And I am a comic geek. Corenswet looks wimpy. Lois Lane looks like a lesbian and years older than Superman. Pa Kent is morbidly obese. Krypto was the star of the trailer.....FYI----->> WB did themselves no favors picking Rachel. Her Tranzy friendship with Dylan Mulvaney isn't going to fill seats. And DM was just at the Joker 2 premiere and that movie bombed.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 19, 2024 10:59 PM |
DL doesn't like anything, so I will wait to see it for myself.
My thoughts exactly. Gunn's already done the impossible: he turned a group of the least known, and least interesting, Marvel superheroes into the "Guardians" trilogy. AND he already one-upped DC itself with his own "The Suicide Squad," vastly better than its predecessor.
A dog? Miss Gunn is banking on toys. What a hack.
Describing Krypto as "just a dog" is like describing Barbra as "just a singer." But it's obvious you know jack shit about the actual comic, and just came here to shit all over it.
Corenswet looks wimpy.
The first shot is him seemingly half-dead in the Arctic, so yeah, we don't get to see him saving a passenger plane or redirecting a nuke into outer space. If you meant that *Clark* looks wimpy, I'd agree – but specifically because Gunn opted to do away with the most absurd part of Superman mythology, that Clark can magically con literally everybody with nothing more than a pair of glasses. Clark's "broccoli cut" looks silly (albeit very Gen Z), but he's the first one who seems actually *believable* as a dork.
I get your point, R24, and agree with it with regard to weaving in the Richard Donner aesthetic, but I really don't mind that. Really, where else should Gunn go to copy, er, excuse me, I mean, pay homage?
Concurred. Dark & gritty works for Batman because the character *is* dark & gritty. Attempting to transmogrify Superman into Batman in "Man of Steel" was a disastrous move, as we all know.
The studio chose to roll the trailer out with Mufasa, suggesting they’ve already decided primarily to market it toward children.
I think you've confusing "marketing to children" with "marketing to a mass audience," and Gunn has said outright that he wanted to recreate the OG Donner inspiring Superman version. The only reason I doubt him in the least is because he's done so well with the definitely adult-skewing "Guardians" and "The Suicide Squad." (He landed the first "fuck" in the MCU, in Guardians 3.)
Finally, I think we'll all be in the mood for some uplifting content come July, what with the likelihood of the world being in flames and all.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 20, 2024 12:57 AM |
I think you've confusing "marketing to children" with "marketing to a mass audience”
No because Mufasa is not a mass audience film. It’s a film for families with children. That’s why WB was worried about it (and they should be); it looks like a children’s film.
Superman is opening between Jurassic World Rebirth and Fantastic Four. I was wondering why WB hasn’t moved it; now I understand. Because they’re not going to target the same audience; it’s counterprogramming. They’re going to market it to families with children.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 20, 2024 1:28 AM |

R73 Corenswet used steroids
The photo on the left is from late 2022 and the one right is from this year
He developed gynecomastia, roid gut and roid face. It really fucked with his jawline which is why he looked more like Superman in Pearl than in Superman.
That’s why there is only one photo of him shirtless after he bulked up, wearing a shirt oddly so it covers his nipples. He won’t be shirtless in Superman.
Cavill worked with a famous trainer who didn’t allow him to use steroids

For one the teaser is coming up in pop up ads on YouTube

I forget what it’s called but I always wish they’d adapt the comic where instead of fighting villains, Superman starts to focus on feeding the poor and fighting poverty. Then he ends up causing all kinds of political problems and ends up in over his head dealing with tribal conflicts, greedy dictators, etc. It solves the problem of no foe being a challenge for Superman by taking the antagonist away entirely.
