He was overhyped (actually, mostly by the gay community after the sensation "Brokeback Mountain" caused) as the next Tom Cruise twenty years ago, and he couldn't live up to that, especially after "Prince of Persia" was such a big bomb. He's found more of a home doing indie projects and stagework.

As an experiment, we went around the room polling the girls (this debate was particularly about who women were more into). Ryan totally swept. I think there was like one girl who said she preferred Jake. My guy friend was stunned but I wasn't surprised at all. Jake's eyes are both close set *and* protruding. No bueno.

Ryan Gosling is occasionally very good when he's in the perfect role (Drive, Only God Forgives, All Good Things, Blade Runner 2049). Gyllenhaal is always just okay.

I think he has the career he wants. He has always struck me as a snob, just like his sister. They seem very out of reach types. He has never done much at all to encourage fan support or interest. In my own family Ryan Gosling is the favorite among my three sisters. One of my sisters didn't even know who Jake was. It seems like Ryan is more well known than Jake if you can believe that.

He was just nominated for a Golden Globe, had the most viewed movie of 2024 on Amazon Prime, the most viewed tv show on Apple. He's doing Broadway with Denzel Washington and got paid 10 million + for Roadhouse (crappy movie but an obvious cash grab for him). He's doing just fine. He's in his 40s, no longer dates starlets, isn't in the gossip columns and is embarrassed by his association with Taylor Swift. He clearly doesn't want that type of fame.
