by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 15, 2024 1:31 PM |
Well, that's Art II, Sec 2 for 'ya.
I have only a finite amount of mental, emotional and intellectual moral outrage and I'm reserving my store of those for January 20th, 2025 when Trump, at the permission of a majority of American voters, puts his left hand on a Trump Bible, raises the other, and guided by his loyal minion CJ. Roberts, dishonestly utters another US Presidential Oath of Office.
and I won't even be watching that.
Of course, to express moral outrage at a Presidential pardon is the exercise of the 1st Amendment at its finest.
I just don't bother to, given Art II, Sec 2.
And yes, I'd have that same position even for that gelatinous agglomeration of shit-cells, the despicable Donald Trump who, in a sane society, really would be publicly shunned, humiliated and in jail by now.

So basically this is just house cleaning, the guy was already out and on house arrest. Waste of taxpayer money to keep monitoring that guy with parole officers, court judges etc. He's non-violent so why bother if he's already out.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 15, 2024 3:12 PM |
OK, R1, I'll play. From the article, which apparently you failed to read, the judge was already out of prison — for years, in fact — and had "reintegrated with his family and community." So first, the trash-receptacle rag quoted mischaracterized this as a pardon when it was a commutation of sentence, and of course made it worse by going to the victims' families and giving them incorrect information to solicit the exact quotes they printed condemning Biden without presenting the facts. Second, because it was a commutation, the former judge's record of guilt and conviction remain intact. He will forever be a convicted felon. And at least he served a portion of his sentence, unlike the many, many criminals that Shitler pardoned (like Roger Stone). Finally, a commutation suggests that there were extenuating circumstances surrounding this incarceration, not that Biden thought he was wrongly convicted (which is what a pardon would indicate).,
That said, this was a mistake on Biden's part, and I'd like to hear what his rationale was. Unlike the convicted felon soon to be in the WH (((shudder))), the Biden WH follows norms and the long-established process for vetting these cases, so there must have been some reason this was even presented to Biden for consideration. If only we had a functioning press corps to do their jobs... but that is a long-lost artifact to our modern era of vigilante justice, yellow journalism and acceptance of fake news. And, of course, OP's posting of this without context.
We should really be discussing whether or not the president should even have the power of the pardon, It's time to re-think this awesome power and responsibility.
