I just watched Top Gun. That man is was as fine as hell.
I agree, OP. Tom S. was fine as hell back in the day.

I enjoyed him in Steel Magnolias.

I liked him (nude) in Big Bad Mama with Angie Dickinson.

AND the nicest guy! We were next door neighbors when he & Sue were living in Seattle. A lifetime ago........ We had them over & they had us over regularly.....

^ it’s almost unfair when they’re sexy and successful and nice.
Most sexy and successful people are weirdly embittered, assuming that people judge them only for their looks and charisma.

Would have done him when he was younger
How is he doing these days? He must be well into his 80s
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 15, 2024 6:58 AM |
He’s 91 r6!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 15, 2024 7:01 AM |
I’ve just seen him in a few things -Alien, Poison Ivy, and some episodes of Picket Fences.
He was always very good. I’m surprised he remained essentially a B List actor.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 15, 2024 8:00 AM |
I had no idea he was 91! He's aging quite well. I always had a crush on him when he starred in Picket Fences.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 15, 2024 8:04 AM |
OP is same guy who believes Tom Selleck is still hot. Sorry misspelling- Sellshit as in reverse mortgages.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 15, 2024 8:37 AM |
He was hot in Ice Castles, that beard and those piercing eyes! He looked younger through most of his career, and could alternate between playing episodic tv villains and heroic cops. He was nude and tied up, getting shock treatment in some 80's movie with Lisa Eichorn - whatever happened to her? - with Anthony Zerbe torturing him.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 15, 2024 9:58 AM |
He was sexy as Shirley MacLeane's husband in The Turning Point and in the film version of M*A*S*H.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 15, 2024 10:45 AM |
I had no idea he as 91!
I thought he was in his 70s by now.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 15, 2024 12:45 PM |
I first saw him in Alien when hardass Sigourney Weaver constantly stared dreamily at him.
Then Poison Ivy blew my tween mind.

R4 “ We had them over & they had us over regularly.....”
Do you want to share something with the group?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 15, 2024 7:10 PM |
He should have won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for convincing audiences he was happily married to Shirley MacLaine.
Actually, I love The Turning Point. Everyone was perfectly cast and gave stupendous performances.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 15, 2024 7:16 PM |
I’m assuming he made Poison Ivy for the money. Because he appeared to be wincing throughout it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 16, 2024 12:36 AM |
That movie was soooo bad
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 16, 2024 12:48 AM |
91 and still doing conventions. I guess it’s easy money if you have the stamina for it. And cost-of-living for the elderly is very expensive.

Love him!
[italic]M*A*S*H[/italic] is one of my Top 5 movies, and still watch it regularly; Skerritt is wonderful there. He's one of those actors on my list of Actors I'll Always Stop and Watch When I Come Across Them While Channel Surfing.
A couple of months ago I caught a very young Skerritt on an episode of [italic]Laramie,[/italic] playing a conflicted member of an outlaw gang--and his sister was (an also very young) Ellen Burstyn. Skerritt and sexy series star Robert Fuller (who's also 91, btw) had some nice scenes together.
Also loved him as Tim Hutton's charmingly roguish Dad on [italic]Leverage;[/italic] they had such great chemistry.

OMG Tom and Robert Fuller in one frame?! I die!!!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 16, 2024 1:38 PM |
In 2018 I was this close to seeing Skerritt on Broadway in the play Straight White Men, where he would have played the father of Josh Charles and Armie Hammer - but he ended up leaving the show during previews "for personal reasons"
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 16, 2024 2:24 PM |
And then IIRC that show never opened due to the Pandemic.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 16, 2024 4:16 PM |
What were the "personal reasons" - did Armie try to eat him? 🤣 😂
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 16, 2024 7:00 PM |

Look at that smug prick on the far left of r32.
I hope his comeback is limited to direct to streaming films with Eric Roberts.

Always like him. Handsome older man. Loved him in Alien.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 16, 2024 11:03 PM |
Tom Skerritt was 37 when he played the horny surgeon in MASH. He has always read about 10 years younger.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 16, 2024 11:14 PM |
I used to mix him and John Beck (of Dallas fame) up. Similar type of rugged handsome.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 16, 2024 11:25 PM |
R33 - that play did open. (I saw it.)
It was his following Broadway show (The Minutes) that had shut because of Covid. And then the Hammer scandal hit and he was replaced.

I read this as “Josh Dallas”.
Color me confused.

Tom Skerrick is a case of being sexy, likeable and talented enough to get through the likes of Poison Ivy with dignity intact but has had few great leading roles or character parts, and only a handful of notable films.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 18, 2024 3:56 PM |
He's one of those few men who looked better and was more attractive after 50. Some faces support lines and age better than others.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 18, 2024 4:28 PM |
The first time I remember seeing Tom was in a 1982 "saw it on HBO movie" called "Fighting Back." He played opposite Michael Sarrazin, Yaphet Kotto and DL Legend Patti Lupone. It also had a slew of "oh, that guy" types in it. It is your typical bad guys take over the neighborhood and the residents take it back because the cops will not do fuck about it. It became an instant classic in my 12-year-old mind when one of the bad guys threatened Tom's son by saying something like "Move, and I'll blow your balls off." We didn't hear things like that on TV in the early 80s.

I remember and loved the movie he was in called Poison Ivy starring Tom, Drew Barrymore, Sara Gilbert and Cheryl Ladd. Drew and Tom have sex outdoors in the rain during one scenes

R25 I have always enjoyed that movie.

Does anyone remember one of Tom SELLECk’S first very brief role in the movie ‘’Coma’’ he was a patient who end up at the facility. He was very beautiful then.

[quote]R52 Does anyone remember one of Tom SELLECk’S first very brief role in the movie ‘’Coma’’ ?
Yes.
He looked so virile and healthy that it worked for the plot when he mysteriously fell into a coma.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 18, 2024 6:51 PM |
COMA was also the movie that made it seem like Lois Chiles - in another small part - was actually going to be a decent actress.
Pauline Kael wrote, “She acts with the feverish intensity of the performer who knows they just have one scene, and have to make it work.”
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 18, 2024 6:57 PM |
I imagine Lois Chiles made an excellent marriage and retired?

I rewatched Poison Ivy over lockdown. It was less racy than I recalled. The cheesy saxophone music during the sex scenes (which revealed little) killed it. But the more was a bit more serious than I expected. Drew Barrymore is playing her wild teen self and it’s her best performance.

Try [italic]Contact[/italic]. He plays a back-stabbing political appointee. It makes good use of Jodie Foster's persona by casting her as an intense grad student. Angela Bassett appears in a tiny but believable role as, IIRC, White House chief of staff.
