It's getting moore and moore likely Demi will nominated. Good for her.

by Anonymousreply 1December 12, 2024 2:18 PM

Six names per category? Pick a lane.

by Anonymousreply 2December 12, 2024 2:23 PM

R2 Critics Choice has always been 6 nominations

by Anonymousreply 3December 12, 2024 2:24 PM

I don't care about anything, as long as Dune, Angelia, and Craig get shafted.

Having said that, it's nice to see Hugh Grant in there, loved that movie.

But eight for Best Director? Idiotic.

by Anonymousreply 5December 12, 2024 2:31 PM

R5: What a slap in the face to Mangold lol!

Happy to see Marianne Jean-Baptiste nominated for 'Hard Truths' after the Golden Globes snub, which proves the HFPA hasn't changed much at all -- they will always recognize mediocre work by stars over excellent performances from character actors. She still has an uphill battle for the Oscar nomination, I'm afraid, even after NYFCC and LAFCA wins, but she deserves to win the category.

by Anonymousreply 7December 12, 2024 2:34 PM

I still don’t know what the critics saw in Wicked and Emilia Perez. The former is ok entertainment and the latter is an awful movie.

by Anonymousreply 8December 12, 2024 2:34 PM

While I’m devastated to see Stan get snubbed, Hugh Grant getting in was a nice surprise. I thought for a while Domingo was in danger but I think he’s well liked and probably a lock at this point.

by Anonymousreply 9December 12, 2024 2:41 PM

r8 Some parts of Emilia Pérez are enjoyable, but it sucks in general. The recitative they used for half of the songs was a terrible choice and made even Selena Gomez sound like shit. And the tranny reveal being used for the final tragic reveal seems cheap and exploitative, and I'm not even trans.

It's just baffling to me that a septuagenarian straight man would write something like that. And it's based on a novel by another straight guy, too. The French are weird, is what I'm saying. Even weirder that this is now getting nominations from American critics.

by Anonymousreply 10December 12, 2024 2:46 PM

R9 Domingo has been a lock since the film came out.

by Anonymousreply 11December 12, 2024 2:51 PM

Go Demi! Also a large nomination haul for The Substance.

Margaret Qualley’s performance is so connected to Demi’s, it seems like they are coming as a package deal. Rightfully so.

I’m sad that Felicity Jones missed out for The Brutalist. It takes a while for her to show up in the film, but when she does, she is really good.

Happy to see Paul Tazewell nominated for his costume design for Wicked.

Nicole Kidman is the biggest snub of the year

by Anonymousreply 14December 12, 2024 3:08 PM

I still think the 5th Best Actor slot is a wild card between Craig, Stan and Eisenberg. Maybe others like Glen Powell.

But Brody, Chalamet, Domingo and Fiennes are locks.

by Anonymousreply 15December 12, 2024 3:23 PM

Am I the only one who thought Sing Sing was rubbish? Lot of script problems in that film. A story needs to be more than just good intentions.

by Anonymousreply 16December 12, 2024 3:24 PM

R15: Powell is happening at the Globes but that's about it. I'm secretly hoping that Stan and Craig sneak in and knock out both Chalamet and Domingo.

by Anonymousreply 17December 12, 2024 3:53 PM

R15 and Timmy

by Anonymousreply 18December 12, 2024 3:59 PM

R16 it’s not being nominated for writing…

by Anonymousreply 19December 12, 2024 4:02 PM

Stan doesn’t deserve a nomination

by Anonymousreply 20December 12, 2024 4:02 PM

Best Actress:

Cynthia Erivo – Wicked Karla Sofía Gascón – Emilia Pérez Marianne Jean-Baptiste – Hard Truths Angelina Jolie – Maria Mikey Madison – Anora Demi Moore – The Substance

Who will be left out come Oscar time?

R18, who do you think “Chalamet” is…??

by Anonymousreply 23December 13, 2024 1:50 PM

R22: To me it feels like Moore and Jean-Baptiste are the most in danger. However, I think Moore's chances are improving with each precursor nomination. I think in all likelihood Madison will prevail as the indie young ingenue a la Brie Larson although I have to say she's not much of a charmer in the press that I've seen her give.

by Anonymousreply 24December 13, 2024 4:02 PM

Here's hoping Kidman gets snubbed on Oscar morning.

by Anonymousreply 25December 13, 2024 4:46 PM

How come Mufusa is opening in like a week and there’s barely any press and zero awards love?
