Murdoch loses battle to control succession to his media empire

Rupert Murdoch’s three adult children will retain control over their father’s media empire upon his death, a Nevada court has ruled after Murdoch launched a campaign to wrest away their power and give it all to his oldest son. The New York Times reported on Murdoch’s loss, citing a sealed court decision that was filed on Saturday. The family battle took place outside of the public’s eye, despite attempts from the media to gain access to the trial.

Murdoch took three of his adult children, James, Elisabeth and Prudence, to court as he tried to completely remove their voting power over the trust Murdoch set up. The current trust structure gives all four adult children equal voting power over Murdoch’s empire, which includes Fox News and News Corp, but Murdoch wanted to give Lachlan, his oldest son and most likeminded child, complete control over the media companies. The change would have affected only the voting power of the siblings, not their financial inheritance.

After reviewing the case, the Nevada commissioner Edmund Gorman concluded that Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch had acted in “bad faith” in their attempts to change the terms of an irrevocable trust that divides control of the company between Murdoch’s four oldest children.

In a statement, James, Elisabeth and Prudence told the Times: “We welcome Commissioner Gorman’s decision and hope that we can move beyond this litigation to focus on strengthening and rebuilding relationships among all family members.”

Let's hope the 3 children force the sale of Fox News so the family loses control on Murdoch's baby which has done so much damage to the US.

Murdoch can't die soon enough for my liking.

I'm not sure the Supreme Court will hold this up, so I'm not celebrating.

Let's cross our fingers because Lachlan is even more conservative than his father R3.

Rupert and then Lachlan have done so much damage to society over many decades. And not just in the US - also the UK and Australia. Hopefully the other 3 children will force Lachlan to sell at. At least the family will be seen to have cut ties with it all as some kind of symbolism. Or they could force changes? Fuck knows. I believe James is a centrist and appalled by some of what his family do. They all had a big blow up some time ago.

The best thing would be if vampire Rupert dies before SCOTUS rule. So he dies without knowing if he's lost control of his empire. He's 92. Inevitability looms.

Ha-ha!

Hey Australia, come get your trash!

He's not an Australian citizen R5. He gave it up to become American. Even though he could easily resurrect his Australian citizenship today - he doesn't. He's an American citizen. Since 1985.

You're stuck with him! :(
