The original night stalker

Were you scared shitless in CA?

by Anonymousreply 23December 13, 2024 11:53 PM

No because I didn’t live in Sacramento or the Eastern Bay Area in the 70s. He was known as a serial rapist there.

They didn’t connect him to the Santa Barbara and Orange County murders until they tested the DNA.

He knocked me down and tried to rape me I bit him. It was Don Corn

Yes, I was. I was born, grew up, and now live in Sacramento. My family moved from Midtown to East Sacramento in 1975 when I was 11, just before the rapes started. While the rapes occurred in the east portion of the city and county (I think the nearest one was 3 miles away), in my child's mind I saw "East" and thought it was in my immediate neighborhood. It didn't help that at one point we had *nightly* helicopter flights with spotlights sweeping neighborhoods.

His MO was particularly creepy and he was always undetected. In retrospect, it was found out that he had cased areas and left markings on screens/windows of homes he struck. People were checking their windows daily. Firearm sales soared and suddenly wrought iron bars appeared everywhere. He really did have the city under seige.

Tying up husband's while lying on their stomachs and piling dishes on backs was a clever and sinister MO. Some men were too macho to think others couldn't protect their women. There was a community meeting at a school in the "epicenter" of the attacks. One man expressed this openly at the meeting. Can you see where this is going? It wasn't long before his wife got raped with him in the house ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN. I think this was his first expedition outside if the East area.

I guess I only felt relief when he moved to other communities. I was living out-of-state when they linked his DNA to the murders in Southern California, but didn't hear about it. It wasn't until I was back in Sacto and he was arrested that I read about the link.

The '70s in California were really fucked up times.

I have followed that case my entire life — terrifying beyond all words, truly.

The hysteria was real. I woke up to a shadowy figure looming over my bed, heart racing, fully convinced it was the Night Stalker. Turns out it was just my trick from the bar trying to find his wallet. Honestly, the real terror was realizing he was still wearing my crop top from last night.

I thought this thread would be about the TV show with Darren McGavin.
