Austin Butler IS Patrick Bateman

Lmao. Sorry Nicholas and Jacob and Drew.

I knew Nicholas wasn’t getting this role. He is not high profile enough. These stars in these hit streaming series swear they are movie stars. No bitch, you gotta build that resume a little bit more. Also I would pound Austin to ecstasy.

by Anonymousreply 1December 11, 2024 7:08 PM

He has rectum mouth.

by Anonymousreply 2December 11, 2024 7:09 PM

I knew Nicholas wouldn’t because he’s not on Hollywoods radar as far as acting. He’s their new model to pimp out for clicks.

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2024 7:10 PM

TERRRRRRRIBLE career move for Butler. I’m actually shocked his management went for it.

by Anonymousreply 4December 11, 2024 7:17 PM

Just no

by Anonymousreply 5December 11, 2024 7:18 PM

R4 why would it be terrible?

by Anonymousreply 6December 11, 2024 7:19 PM

Sorry but I had to laugh. With how aggressive Nicholas has been campaigning to get cast, I know this is a blow.

This has been a bad week for him so far. No GG nom while his co-lead got nominated, the hot Italian criminal has completely taken over social media and has even double the amount of love online in just a short amount of days, now this? Someone needs to do a wellness check on him.

by Anonymousreply 7December 11, 2024 7:22 PM

Why remake this when the original was pitch perfect?

by Anonymousreply 8December 11, 2024 7:22 PM

On the one hand, there will be nudity and sex scenes. On the other, this is just an awful casting choice. He does not have the looks or acting talent required for the role.

by Anonymousreply 9December 11, 2024 7:24 PM

Awful pick. Should've gone to Cooper Koch.

by Anonymousreply 10December 11, 2024 7:24 PM

r8 It's dated visually by now, despite the brilliant script. You need something new to attract the younger audiences.

by Anonymousreply 11December 11, 2024 7:26 PM

R3: Good looking actors do not stand a chance in today's woke Hollywood. They like these non-threatening white guys and it's a trend that's not going away anytime soon.

by Anonymousreply 12December 11, 2024 7:26 PM

R9 Chavez doesn’t either. He looks literally nothing like the character in the book. His complexion can be white as snow but his face is still not Bateman.

by Anonymousreply 13December 11, 2024 7:26 PM

…although if it is a roman à clef about Armie Hammer then I could see why Guadagnino went this direction, because there is a bit of a resemblance. Both dirty blondes with big cold blue eyes.

Butler would at least attempt Hammer’s pseudo-transatlantic accent.

by Anonymousreply 14December 11, 2024 7:26 PM

He has not got the range!!

by Anonymousreply 15December 11, 2024 7:27 PM

[quote] I knew Nicholas wasn’t getting this role

They needed another white guy to properly portray the character as written.

by Anonymousreply 16December 11, 2024 7:27 PM

Guadagnino said this version will focus more on Patrick’s sexual proclivities and focus less on his thirst for murder.

by Anonymousreply 17December 11, 2024 7:29 PM

Unless they really emphasize the sex scenes/sexual content in the marketing, I think this will be a flop.

by Anonymousreply 18December 11, 2024 7:29 PM

R16 correct. Chavez is “white” but not Anglo. They aren’t the same.

Anyone who believed Nicholas had a shot is insane. He isn’t on any big directors radar.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2024 7:30 PM

Could there be an Austin Butler full frontal?

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2024 7:30 PM

R18 the 2000 film flopped but gained popularity later. It happens.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2024 7:30 PM

Austin Butler IS NOT Patrick Bateman.

Not even close.

Sorry, Luca.

And sorry, Austin. I guess you had to have sex with Luca for nothing.

No one is going to buy him as Patrick Bateman.

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2024 7:30 PM

R22: The sex is not for nothing. It pays off.

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2024 7:32 PM

R22 Chavez isn’t Bateman. You keep pushing him but he’s no more Bateman than Butler is.

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2024 7:32 PM

R6 because it will never measure up to Bale’s performance. Bale is an actor’s actor and Butler is a Disney star who got lucky.

by Anonymousreply 25December 11, 2024 7:32 PM

R17 so it IS about Armie Hammer.

by Anonymousreply 26December 11, 2024 7:33 PM

Got lucky? He was incredible as Elvis and in Dune 2.

by Anonymousreply 27December 11, 2024 7:34 PM

Austin Butler looks like he's on the verge of tears at all times. He does not possess the maniacal glee that Bale brought to the role originally. I'm actually disgusted by this casting choice. Even Timotay would be more convincing as Bateman.

by Anonymousreply 28December 11, 2024 7:38 PM

I think Austin is a good (potentially great) actor, but that role is indelibly Bale’s. Memes are all over the place with Bale. It will be very hard for Butler to have that impact even with his talent.

by Anonymousreply 29December 11, 2024 7:40 PM

Butler has a white trash look about him. Patrick Bateman is supposed to look very classically handsome. Christian Bale was perfect.

by Anonymousreply 30December 11, 2024 7:46 PM

Austin Butler in a remake of Napoleon Dynamite, this I could buy. But as Patrick Bateman? It's like if you tried to cast Garrett Clayton as Rambo - completely daft and unbelievable.

by Anonymousreply 31December 11, 2024 7:47 PM

His team is probably strategizing on a conference call right now. Fans of the original film are devastated. I do t think anybody is happy with this pick.

by Anonymousreply 32December 11, 2024 7:53 PM

Retard R10 thinks Koch should get all the acting roles.

by Anonymousreply 33December 11, 2024 7:54 PM

R32: Don't

by Anonymousreply 34December 11, 2024 7:55 PM

[quote] I dont think anybody is happy with this pick.

I thought you wrote "I don't think anybody is happy with this PRICK."

Hehe.

Either would be correct.

by Anonymousreply 35December 11, 2024 7:58 PM

So he'll be playing Patrick Bateman as Elvis?

by Anonymousreply 36December 11, 2024 8:00 PM

Butler will get away with it if he is indeed playing an Armie Hammer surrogate. Hammer was, well, hammy. But he cannot play Patrick Bateman at any level close to Bale.

by Anonymousreply 37December 11, 2024 8:06 PM

That’s what they all told Bale when he was chasing the role in the late 90s r4.

by Anonymousreply 38December 11, 2024 8:14 PM

[quote]the 2000 film flopped but gained popularity later. It happens.

The 2000 version flopped commercially but it was anchored by an iconic performance from Christian Bale that put him firmly on the map in the acting world. He was chosen as Batman only a couple of years later, partly on the recognition of his work in AP.

It will be very difficult for anyone to top that performance.

by Anonymousreply 39December 11, 2024 8:15 PM

Bateman AND Batman!

by Anonymousreply 40December 11, 2024 8:17 PM

Hot

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 41December 11, 2024 8:17 PM

I'd like to see Aaron Taylor Johnson in the role with LOTS of nude scenes.

by Anonymousreply 42December 11, 2024 8:18 PM

Hollywood seems to have forgotten what a New England WASP is.

by Anonymousreply 43December 11, 2024 8:19 PM

Yes r38 because it was a highly risky film and move for him, as a younger actor with only modest name recognition. Thankfully he hit it out of the park and it put him on the A-list, at least among his peers (if not Hollywood proper).

Asking a new actor to re-imagine the role and try to top that, especially a younger established actor like Butler, is strange.

by Anonymousreply 44December 11, 2024 8:20 PM

[quote] So he'll be playing Patrick Bateman as Elvis?

R36 NAILED IT!

He probably still hasn't lost that stupid accent.

The guy is fuckin' weird.

by Anonymousreply 45December 11, 2024 8:21 PM

Hunter Biden would've been more believable.

by Anonymousreply 46December 11, 2024 8:24 PM

It’s not such a great story that it needs a remake.

by Anonymousreply 47December 11, 2024 8:26 PM

Another remake nobody asked for and I'm sure some woke rubbish will be thrown in for good measure.

by Anonymousreply 48December 11, 2024 8:28 PM

r8 clap🫡

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2024 8:30 PM

Woke rubbish… like having Patrick do anything gay…

by Anonymousreply 50December 11, 2024 8:32 PM

Will it still take place in the late 80s? Will Patrick Bateman be bisexual?

by Anonymousreply 51December 11, 2024 8:48 PM

So will this version have Patrick putting a decapitated head on his hard dick? I joke, but that's one of several moments from the book I doubt make it to this adaptation despite it being more explicit.

by Anonymousreply 52December 11, 2024 8:50 PM

Bateman wasn’t bi in the book r51

by Anonymousreply 53December 11, 2024 8:51 PM

This remake craze is boring and sign the death of any creativity. That said, while Bale is indeed iconic as Bateman, the movie itself deviates wildly from the book, mostly in its tone.

I don’t think i have seen anything with Butler, but Elordi was sort of playing Patrick Bateman in Euphoria, so this will be a new take.

by Anonymousreply 54December 11, 2024 8:59 PM

[quote]Butler has a white trash look about him. Patrick Bateman is supposed to look very classically handsome.

I think he can be styled convincingly enough to pull off the look. Whether he has the acting chops for it, I don't know. It's a risky move for him.

by Anonymousreply 55December 11, 2024 9:04 PM

I thought we were finally rid of Austin Butthead after that stupid Elvis movie.

Who keeps trying to make him happen?

It's really fucking annoying.

by Anonymousreply 56December 11, 2024 9:09 PM

The studio wanted DiCaprio for the original. Can you imagine?

by Anonymousreply 57December 11, 2024 9:25 PM

I would argue that Bateman neither straight nor gay nor bi. He's a total freak who is trying his best to imitate the humans around him. It doesn't really matter if the remake has him killing female or male prostitutes.

And I agree with r47. The movie elevated a mediocre book. This is like remaking Silence of the Lambs.

by Anonymousreply 58December 11, 2024 9:30 PM

R58 no. The person said he doesn’t want it woke. Making him Bi or gay is WOKE. Patrick was neither. He actually loathed gay men. The only thing that suggested he was anything but straight was the one time he rents a tranny porn video.

I’ve read the book 3 times.

by Anonymousreply 59December 11, 2024 9:32 PM

I don’t know Butler may surprise us if the script and direction are good. He’s a raw talent he just wasn’t good as Elvis he WAS Elvis. Somehow I can see him in a dark psychotic role we shall see.

by Anonymousreply 60December 11, 2024 9:43 PM

The original was excellent but understandably left out some of the more gruesome shit.

What are the chances of Austin showing peen?

by Anonymousreply 61December 11, 2024 9:44 PM

DiCaprio turned down the role he thought it was to dark and twisted , which it was and would have ruined his career. I think he would’ve nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 62December 11, 2024 9:47 PM

The 2000 film was nothing like the book

by Anonymousreply 63December 11, 2024 9:51 PM

Nobody wants this movie. Especially not with that goofy looking hick as Patrick.

by Anonymousreply 64December 11, 2024 9:51 PM

DiCaprio would have been awful

by Anonymousreply 65December 11, 2024 9:51 PM

Austin isn’t a hick….

by Anonymousreply 66December 11, 2024 9:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 67December 11, 2024 9:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 68December 11, 2024 9:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 69December 11, 2024 9:57 PM

Luigi is who we want.

by Anonymousreply 70December 11, 2024 9:59 PM

R69 he wasn’t cast for that. He was cast because he fits Luca’s vision

by Anonymousreply 71December 11, 2024 10:01 PM

He had white trash face

by Anonymousreply 72December 11, 2024 10:08 PM

*has white trash face

by Anonymousreply 73December 11, 2024 10:08 PM

Christian was such perfect casting. He looked like that 1980s dark haired Wall Street douche bag.

Austin looks nothing like that. They would have to reinterpret him as a sweater over the shoulders tennis playing yuppie for it to work.

by Anonymousreply 74December 11, 2024 10:13 PM

Why the remake, Christian Bale played the character to perfection.

by Anonymousreply 75December 11, 2024 10:15 PM

[quote] Luca’s vision

by Anonymousreply 78December 11, 2024 10:26 PM

[quote] thought we were finally rid of Austin Butthead after that stupid Elvis movie.

The one that got him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe and Bafta?

by Anonymousreply 79December 11, 2024 10:39 PM

The “It’s not a remake; it’s a new interpretation of the novel” seems like a pretty weak distinction to me.

Other than Gus Van Sant, people don’t generally remake the same movie.

by Anonymousreply 80December 11, 2024 10:43 PM

R80 a remake a direct redo of another film. This isn’t that.

by Anonymousreply 81December 11, 2024 10:44 PM

Casted.

by Anonymousreply 82December 11, 2024 10:45 PM

Setting aside the fact that remaking this movie now is ridiculous, Butler's Dune and Elvis performances likely landed him the role.

I don't see it, but it's not utterly ludicrous, merely bad casting.

by Anonymousreply 83December 11, 2024 10:46 PM

It isn’t bad casting and he will do amazing.

by Anonymousreply 84December 11, 2024 10:50 PM

It isn’t a remake.

by Anonymousreply 85December 11, 2024 10:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 86December 11, 2024 10:53 PM

Probably no peen from him.

by Anonymousreply 87December 11, 2024 10:56 PM

It's not a remake, it's a retread.

by Anonymousreply 88December 11, 2024 10:57 PM

No. It’s a direct adaptation of the book. Has nothing to do with the 2000 film which was nothing like the book

by Anonymousreply 89December 11, 2024 11:00 PM

Butler grew up in show biz. NOT A HICK.

by Anonymousreply 90December 11, 2024 11:01 PM

Butler said cast probably because he was the only one who could bring some financing to this thing.

by Anonymousreply 91December 11, 2024 11:04 PM

*Butler was cast….

by Anonymousreply 92December 11, 2024 11:04 PM

R90 So did Britney Spears

by Anonymousreply 93December 11, 2024 11:05 PM

Remake. Retread. Reinvention.

Whatever you call it, I can't imagine Luca successfully doing a 2.0 version of previously made film.

by Anonymousreply 94December 11, 2024 11:08 PM

Austin is prettier than Bale, but I admire Christian for showing his knob in the original, even if it was for a nanosecond

by Anonymousreply 95December 11, 2024 11:12 PM

Stop attempting to narrow the definition of “remake” to the point where it applies only to Gus Van Sant’s “Psycho.”

It’s a remake.

by Anonymousreply 96December 11, 2024 11:17 PM

R59, anyone who gets off on fucking the bloody, ragged neck hole of a decapitated head is not straight. He's a complete deviant and any attempt to slot him into a normal sexual orientation is completely missing the point of the book. I read it once and that was enough.

He was homophobic and racist because he wanted to fit in with his peers. I don't think he has any beliefs.

by Anonymousreply 97December 11, 2024 11:22 PM

R96 you don’t know what a remake is. It’s obvious. Just admit it and move on.

by Anonymousreply 98December 11, 2024 11:24 PM

[Quote]The studio wanted DiCaprio for the original. Can you imagine?

by Anonymousreply 99December 11, 2024 11:25 PM

When the book was first out BEE cane to London to do a reading and interview on stage at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. I went and was sat behind a row of beefy, Bateman-esque financial trader types, American, with expensive watches and knitwear. When BEE did the reading they treated it like stand up comedy. They laughed loudly at all the violence, hatred, and all the bits that were meant to be satirising people like THEM. It was very disturbing. They clearly loved the book - unironically.

by Anonymousreply 100December 11, 2024 11:30 PM

The weird thing is that if Nicholas Chavez could have pulled this off (which he could in terms of looks even though he's Hispanic), he would be a genuine superstar.

I don't think Butler is going to be adequate casting. But I think this will flop, because no one is craving a re-make. The original novel is so thin that filming it once (well) was more than enough.

Trust me. Nicholas could pull this off, both in terms of looks AND attitude.

He already has the Patrick Bateman vibe, without even trying.

If he just puts in the work for the role, he would be phenomenal.

Agree with r118 here.

Seriously, I'm indifferent to Timothee Chalamet, neither dislike or like him, but when he shares the screen with Butler in Dune II it's no contest, Butler has far more charisma.

And his performance as Elvis was very compelling.

I'll leave it up to you experts on Bateman whether he was miscast here or not.

OK, fine, R142, but they could at least let Glen Powell be one of Patrick's victims. He'd be perfect. He loves to talk and brags a lot.

Who is asking for this movie? The original was bad enough.

by Anonymousreply 145December 12, 2024 9:52 PM

Nicholas Hoult would have been great.

Has Austin ever done any nudity?

by Anonymousreply 146December 12, 2024 10:35 PM

Tall built and handsome Nicholas Hoult would have been a great choice.

Another remake nobody asked for. Nobody.

I agree that while I don’t find Austin Butler that good looking, he was wonderful as Elvis and sexy, scary and charismatic in Dune 2. I didn’t know it was him in Dune 2 while watching and then I immediately looked it up because his talent stood out.

I love the idea of Nicholas Hoult. Great idea.

R143: Butler honestly has the better chance in the future at getting mature leading man roles than Chalamet.

Nicholas Hoult isn't very good and I only see the little kid with a bowl cut from About a Boy. Great movie.

Who on DL finds him attractive?

by Anonymousreply 154December 14, 2024 2:13 AM

Only LOGAN PAUL can play this role in a meaningful way

by Anonymousreply 155December 14, 2024 2:35 AM

and only the safdies can direct it

by Anonymousreply 156December 14, 2024 2:38 AM

Austin definitely has major BDE.

by Anonymousreply 157December 17, 2024 9:21 PM

Austin is the best actor out of the bunch. I'll admit I have a soft spot for him. He's not a nepo baby and had to scrap his way up the Hollywood ladder, which makes his unapologetic desire for glory quite endearing to me.

by Anonymousreply 158December 17, 2024 9:29 PM

He’s too odd looking.

by Anonymousreply 159December 17, 2024 9:39 PM

He's too beautiful to play Patrick
