And just like that, I couldn’t help but wonder: when it comes to the Booker Prize, am I judging the best novels… or just the ones that know how to satisfy?

Straight from the plot of “American Fiction”

by Anonymousreply 2December 10, 2024 3:56 PM

Who even knew she could read?

Maybe she'll use the audio book versions.

She can store her notes in her neck folds.

by Anonymousreply 5December 10, 2024 4:56 PM

Will she be judging a book's literary merits or the nourishing quality of its paper?

by Anonymousreply 6December 10, 2024 5:04 PM

She'll indicate her pick by stomping her foot twice.

by Anonymousreply 7December 10, 2024 5:05 PM

This is a terrible decision even if she has some literary prowess heretofore never revealed. It is a stunt.

It’s possible to become an expert in almost anything without formal education in the field. Even architecture, art, finance, history, programming, and computer science. But literary analysis, like mathematics or the applied aspects of physical sciences, seems like a tough one.

Well nobody can say she got this gig because of her great beauty.

by Anonymousreply 10December 10, 2024 7:47 PM

What's a book?

by Anonymousreply 11December 10, 2024 7:50 PM

She’s always given off the distinct vibe of being insecure about her lack of formal education—the way she makes sure she’s seen toting around books or the New Yorker and promotes herself as a reading influencer on social media.

When I noticed this article, it made me laugh out loud.

So I posted it on this thread.

She makes Jen Garner look like an Appalachian academic.

SJP made a tidy fortune selling perfume. I guess she has a great nose. So why not books? How has her shoe business been going? It flopped, right?

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2024 9:13 PM

Books are SO decorative!

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2024 9:15 PM

R15 She has a store in the WV, in which I’ve never seen a single customer.

by Anonymousreply 17December 10, 2024 9:17 PM

SJP, may I suggest the book "Equine Hisory" be your first review?

We all need to know more about our backgrounds.

by Anonymousreply 18December 10, 2024 9:40 PM

Will this crash and burn as fast as her failed Bravo art competition reality show?

by Anonymousreply 19December 10, 2024 9:46 PM

I like that for her

by Anonymousreply 20December 10, 2024 10:31 PM

She can sound out some of the big words.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2024 12:41 AM

Wouldn't she rather judge shoes?

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2024 3:03 AM

Why??????

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2024 3:05 AM

I'm surprised they agreed to her rider for 5 figure expenses on sofa shawls.

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2024 12:25 PM

[quote]I guess she has a great nose.

Well, I don't know how great it is, but it's something.
