President Biden and Jill ignore Kamala Harris during standing ovation at the Kennedy Center Honors

Lame duck President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden ignored a beaming Vice President Kamala Harris — who was applauding enthusiastically for the couple — as they entered the Kennedy Center Honors to a standing ovation, awkward video shows.

The Bidens didn’t greet or acknowledge Harris as they entered the 47th Kennedy Center Honors, even as they took a spot standing right next to the vice president her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Sad!

by Anonymousreply 1December 10, 2024 1:46 AM

Damn her for running! Biden should have been allowed to run from hospice.

by Anonymousreply 2December 10, 2024 1:57 AM

Maybe Joe didn’t recognize her again, and Jill continued to assure him that she just was the late Hollywood actress Eileen Heckart (?).

Anyone watching the network broadcast now on CBS (Sunday 12/22)?

Streaming on Paramount+

by Anonymousreply 5December 23, 2024 2:20 AM

No, I’m watching Christmas in Connecticut on TCM.

Was Dump there? He seems to be everywhere these days.

by Anonymousreply 7December 23, 2024 3:05 AM

Dump won't set foot in a place where he is not the star. He could never sit and watch someone else be honored. He never went when he was in office before. That being said, there is entirely too much talking and not enough performing; dull.

by Anonymousreply 8December 23, 2024 3:08 AM

There is no fire in this show. Over-scripted speeches make it seem that those on stage have no idea who the honoree is.

by Anonymousreply 9December 23, 2024 3:10 AM

You can be sure that they were all together moments before in some green room or reception room. This does not appear to be a snub.

by Anonymousreply 10December 23, 2024 3:14 AM

Sweet moment in which DougE and Kamala stole a kiss.

by Anonymousreply 11December 23, 2024 3:20 AM

They all were most likely together for 20 minutes before coming out.

by Anonymousreply 12December 23, 2024 3:32 AM

They probably think she was wrong to distance herself from him in the final stages of the campaign, believing if she had embraced Biden's record more often and more enthusiastically she would have won. But we all know that's bullshit because Joe's reputation and his approval rating was in the toilet and he was so unpopular even House and Senate candidates distanced themselves. Now, a popular POTUS is an asset to Congressional candidates but not this time. Joe and Jill are just pissed off at the world and poor Kamala who should get the fucking Congressional Medal of Honor for going above and beyond the call of duty, is the Biden's target. I follow POTUS, FLOTUS Emhoff and Kamala on instagram, and Joe and Jill heavily promote all the glitzy seasonal stuff but Kamala is down to earth. Kamala should be proud of what she did she has nothing to apologize for. We let her down because not enough of us showed up for her.

They ignore everyone because they understand that they’re in the spotlight at that moment.

Silly to read anything into it

by Anonymousreply 14December 23, 2024 3:55 AM

The foundation of art is to show not talk about it. That's the weakness of this show. Too much talking and not enough art in performance. It's deathly dull, devoid of joy and genuine emotion.

by Anonymousreply 15December 23, 2024 3:57 AM

I'm trying to remember if Joe and Jill ever accompanied Barack and Michelle to this event. I don't remember seeing them.

by Anonymousreply 16December 23, 2024 3:58 AM

The Gores came with the Clintons. Don't ever remember seeing the Bidens with the Obamas.

by Anonymousreply 17December 23, 2024 4:18 AM

I was at the taping in DC earlier this month and there was a lot of crosstalk between the people in the presidential box. No animosity on display. But the show was great!

by Anonymousreply 18December 23, 2024 5:00 AM

He's not snubbing them. He's waving at the crowd, and he does smile at her and Doug (10-15 seconds into the clip) as he surveys the crowd cheering for him.

by Anonymousreply 19December 23, 2024 5:59 AM

Who were the honorees?

by Anonymousreply 20December 23, 2024 6:01 AM

Honorees, R20:

Francis Ford Coppola

Grateful Dead

Bonnie Raitt

Arturo Sandovol

The Apollo Theatre

by Anonymousreply 21December 23, 2024 6:05 AM

Who spoke/appeared for Coppola?

by Anonymousreply 22December 23, 2024 6:07 AM

So how was the show?

Was any performance worth watching?

I'm not going to watch the entire show, but I'll look for a specific performance on YouTube.

by Anonymousreply 23December 23, 2024 6:12 AM

The best performance of the night. You know the show is not as top notch as it used to be when Miles Teller is one of the entertainers. The writers must have been paid by the word or the head was named Charles Dickens. 3 hr show - two and a half was talking and 30 minutes was actual performance.

by Anonymousreply 24December 23, 2024 7:05 AM

Sorry, this was the best performance of the night. Brandi Carlile and Sheryl Crow for Bonnie Raitt.

Thanks, R25.

My favorite Bonnie Raitt song.

by Anonymousreply 26December 23, 2024 7:09 AM

Weird they’d get a standing ovation.

by Anonymousreply 27December 23, 2024 7:29 AM

I thought it was entertaining. I always love to watch The Kennedy Center Honors.

by Anonymousreply 28December 23, 2024 8:06 AM

Didn't they lecture us over and over how Trump was an existential threat to democracy and there would be catastrophic consequences if he won? And here they are one month before he takes over looking like they don't have a care in the word attending an arts gala performance while millions are terrified of what they next four years will bring.
