Did any of you visit these Catskills resorts back in the day?

WTF is a vegetarian chopped liver luncheon?

by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2024 9:03 PM

Ugh. A lot of 50s/early 60s fare there. So glad we have had a culinary evolution and gotten rid of things like "jellied consomme."

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2024 9:07 PM

They only serve lunch and dinner for an hour?

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2024 9:16 PM

"skiing" at the concord.

I assume guests ate quickly so they could catch the after dinner show.

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2024 9:19 PM

Oy.

by Anonymousreply 6December 9, 2024 9:26 PM

My husband went bobsledding there once with the young Liza.

by Anonymousreply 7December 9, 2024 9:40 PM

Some of the offerings really sound dreadful. We've had other vintage menu threads going back to the 1930s and those menus weren't quite this Ick.

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2024 9:47 PM

The Catskill resort we went to was a place with a few cabins and mom was the chef of our cabin. There was only was seating for each meal and you ate what you were given. It was fun times.

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2024 9:47 PM

so, R9, not a "resort"

It's Linzer torte not "tart."

by Anonymousreply 11December 9, 2024 10:03 PM

I'm surpised they offered a Linzer torte/tart.

by Anonymousreply 12December 9, 2024 10:35 PM

In Brooklyn, they're called Linzer tarts.

by Anonymousreply 13December 9, 2024 10:38 PM

What's with the odd Chinese dishes thrown in? Egg Fu Yung? Chicken fried rice?

by Anonymousreply 14December 9, 2024 10:39 PM

Fuck ignorant Brooklyn.

by Anonymousreply 15December 9, 2024 10:40 PM

The children's menu. Not a chicken finger in sight!

R15, that's where most of the hotel guests were from, stupid.

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2024 10:45 PM

^^and the Bronx.

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2024 10:45 PM

r17 Then fuck them and you.

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2024 10:46 PM

R19, I hope you heal one day.

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2024 10:50 PM

There's a reason people don't go out for Jewish cuisine.

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2024 10:54 PM

I went there a few times for school-related activities in the early 80s. It was a rundown dump by then. It was also there where I learned Jews can’t have meat and dairy at the same meal. The waiter was horrified when I asked for butter for my potatoes and roll.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2024 11:18 PM

I'll bet they ran out of the "Saute of Calves Liver, Smothered Onions" right quick! Those kids were probably chomping at the bit for that entree!

by Anonymousreply 23December 10, 2024 12:50 AM

Chinese Style Spaghetti with Simmered Chicken Strips? 🤔🤨

by Anonymousreply 24December 10, 2024 12:58 AM

Chicken Lo Mein

by Anonymousreply 25December 10, 2024 12:58 AM

In what world is Apple Juice an Appetizer? Yuck. Ick. Nasty food.

by Anonymousreply 26December 10, 2024 1:12 AM

R26 in the 60s fruit juice or fruit cocktail were common appetizers. Very few lardasses back then scarfing down a 2000 calorie Blooming Onion.

by Anonymousreply 27December 10, 2024 1:22 AM

bump

by Anonymousreply 28December 13, 2024 10:01 PM

Is Lemon Chiffon Pie the same as Lemon Meringue Pie? I'd like a slice right now.

by Anonymousreply 29December 13, 2024 10:23 PM

r29 I absolutely wondered the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 30December 13, 2024 10:28 PM

[quote]WTF is a vegetarian chopped liver luncheon?

Something I never, ever want to hear about again.

by Anonymousreply 31December 13, 2024 10:30 PM

I love Jewish cuisine!

by Anonymousreply 32December 13, 2024 10:39 PM

Gimme Jewish deli any time!!!

by Anonymousreply 33December 13, 2024 10:43 PM

Where are the chicken fingers and buffalo wings?

by Anonymousreply 34December 13, 2024 10:46 PM

Agree r33 though they are few and far between these days.

This menu isn’t Jewish deli though, just Kosher food prepared for hundreds of people.

by Anonymousreply 35December 13, 2024 11:50 PM

I was kind of replying to R21. I love Jewish deli food and, yes, unfortunately, Jewish delis are few and far between.
